I cover my beds straight after sowing seeds to keep off the local cats. Cover carrots also helps keep it humid for germination.
I grew a carrot last year called 'Envy' and I'm never going back, love it!
It's still too cold all over the northern hemisphere Tony...
Weird, weird spring.
Hi Tony, ooh, good luck with the new technique of sowing carrot seeds. All you'd plants are looking really healthy too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
This weather can do one now Tony.
I’ve had a bloody nuff of it.
Keep up the good work.
Looking fantastic there. Very organised. I would have this terrible urge to half-fill the quadgrows now - #ImpatientBoy!
Me nd our lass haven't even got the plot dug over yet never mind anything in the pots
Great idea for sowing carrot seeds I must remember that for next time, I've sown mine as purr too close together, I've also ordered the tables another good idea 👍
I would recommend covering your carrots with plastic, cardboard, or similar; checking every day until they germinate. This keeps the soil moist. They must not dry out on the surface, as this will kill them off before the break though to the surface. I also use a micro mesh cover from day 1.
Everything is looking great. Just keep those carrots well watered.
When I do the little bit in the bottom, I give it a little shot of liquid fertilizer. They rebound really nicely, no shock.
Tony man I have done small seeds like this in a sand/fine soil mix (as recommended by my granddad when I was a nipper) BUT what I also do is put a bit of water in the mixing container as sometimes the small seeds stick to the container if was wet to start with. Have you tried Gai Lan (chinese brocoli) down under I have just sown sugar loaf cabbage and plenty of gai lan and the chillies which had a spectacular year are coming to an end. Amongst others I sowed Aji lemon drop for the first time, a fantastic chilli with a great citrus note.
Hello Tony it's been rubbish man hasn't it seems like it's raining always and bloody nippy to past week
Crop is looking amazing!
Some great tips today Tony, thank you.
Bit of tech feedback for ya - audio is a bit low and also distorted.
👍
Trust me… the hassle I had just to get it to this level of crap
@@TonyCSmith ah ok, didn't affect the joy of watching your vids, keep it up mate, all the best 👍
Fab potting-on set up 😍. Very efficient, love them tall pots for toms too👍. My potting on process is so chaotic
Wow your chillies 😮
i always broad scatter carrots, mostly cos it aggravated my allotment neighbours ;-) I don't do neat rows, and they say it's for weeding..I know a carrot seedling from a dandelion ;-) then they look at me funny
Tony I really think you need to water it in and then cover it with cardboard until germination happens then take the cardboard off. I have just tried this method except not scattered. It took a couple of weeks but I had really good germination. You need to keep the carrot seeds wet till they germinate.
Hi from NZ. I saw behind your carrot row a tall trough, wouldn't they have grown better in there. I sow radishes with my carrots and bunches of chives as the carrot fly can not abide chives and as radishes are in and out in 4 weeks it gives your carrots room to expand. What are the big black pots in the glasshouse for, I think they look great?
Your Chillies and Tomatoes look amazing Tony !!!!🤩 it’s 1 degree here in Hertfordshire the weather is so bizarre but the warm weather is coming maybe not today or tomorrow but some day 😂😂xxx
You are a strange dude but very funny 😊
Are you using Clover compost now?
Tone ya need to cover ya peas cos birds will appreciate too much the freshly sprouted peas. I’m talking from experience 😢. Bird’s left me 4 plants years ago. Maybe they felt sorry for me cos I’d spent all afternoon weeding prepping then sowing 😂
Remember if the carrots don’t work it’s Monty Don’s fault.
However, if you end up with great carrots remember us little folk 😂😂😂
Tony Iv sent you a message about the DYIC1 cheers
👍
Bish bash bosh, done 👏😉
Why not try pelleted carrot seeds
I should 🌈👍
