  • Oyster Yachts have a reputation for building , fast, safe and luxurious sailing boats to take families around the world.
In the first of this series, reviewing the Worlds best cruising Yachts, we take a look at the 2022 Oyster 595. Designed from the keel up, this beautiful craft is designed to be sailed short handed or with crew.
This series will take a look at different Yachts at different price points highlighting the differences in design, price and suitability for the purpose for which they were designed.
Also in the series we have the Classic Rustler 44, the Moody 41 DS, Hanse, Dehler, Arcona, Discovery, and many more.
While it is not a full list of cruising yachts available, it is a good first look at what is available and will be added to over the years.

Beautiful yacht. Stuffs of dream for all but reality for most who can afford such luxury. $4-5 million is alot of 💰.😄. But if I do happen to win the lottery, I think the Garcia explorer 52 is the monohull for me. A boat that can go anyway. The Garcia 52 catamaran for more space. Great video Nick. Always enjoy these. Keep making them. Thanks. Will

It is so nice that I would be afraid to sail it lest it get dirty. It is built so solid that there would be nowhere in the world that I would be afraid to travel. I had a tour of an 885 a few years back. This 595 looks pretty much the same just smaller. A real pocket luxury superyacht. Great job Nick as usual on the tour. I'm underwhelmed for $4M. Two years ago, an Oyster 565 was around $1.8M, so prices have skyrocketed. I think the biggest thing going for Oyster is being able to join a world Oyster rally; seems like an awesome experience. I was more impressed by the Passport, 615 and 545, than the Oyster 575, last year in Annapolis. The Rustler 57 is more to my liking, or even better, the Friendship 65, would get my 'bling'.

Fantastic boats and probably worth every penny. If you can scrape together the funds to buy this type of boat you better have the funds to maintain it. You want people anchored next to you saying, "that is a beautiful boat". You don't want them saying, "it was a beautiful boat". Even with the magical lottery dollars I am not sure I could bring myself to spend that kind of money, but you never know. In the meantime, it's nice to dream. Thanks for the tour!

The only problem with this boat is that a 60-foot cat in the same price range, is just so much more boat for the money. You can get a 10 year old super yacht for 10 million dollars Is this mono value for money, Don't think so at all. 2. A robot servant to clean the boat, cook perfect meals, give massages and perform boat maintenance.

It's certainly a very nice boat, but I have a hard time understanding why I should not buy instead an Amel 60 or Garcia 60? They cost about half the price, offer just as much luxury, an amazing track record for blue water cruising, great performance with probably more safety (clearly so with the GaRcia) and just as much sailing credentials?
Looking at cats, an Garcia Explocat 52 or Outremer also seem to offer a lot more for the money.

Your channel has always had cruising at its heart so was disappointed you didn’t “drill down” on fundamentals around what makes a true blue water cruising boat and does this boat hit the grade? Have you lost your Catamaran Video objectivity? Chasing “OmniCorp” ££’s on us? No critical review of key elements such as the boats profile, Protected rudder, Life boat deployment, hull integrity and the list goes on. The quality of photography and its awesome so huge hats off to you on that front and love to see you experimenting. However please don’t forget most of us RUclips followers love you guys most when your brutal, honest and quirky, rather than “perfect, crisp and stylish”. Oyster, Halberg-Rassy, Swan - These are amongst the finest fiberglass and composite sailing yachts in the world and, yes, they are expensive. I believe that you will also be reviewing a Hanse and a Moody (an upscale Hanse) which are less expensive but, of course, they are less luxurious and, IMO, won't perform as well. I didn't know there even existed sailboats with electric sail control. I've generally assumed that my family will need a power boat for liveaboard use, because we're none of us young or fully healthy, and we can't count on being able to do all the physical work that goes into running a sailboat every day. Something like this one, we might be able to handle.
All that said, for less than $2 million you can buy Steve and Linda Dashew's own _Beowulf_ (still for sale last I checked, at an asking price of $1,750,000). If I were looking for a gorgeous, luxurious circumnavigating liveaboard (which I am) and price was no object (which, alas, it is), I would probably go for that one. Some of what they've done to improve every conceivable function on that boat is simply unreal.

This boat is almost certainly equipped with a fabric bimini that covers the entirety of the cockpit. In the very unlikely chance it isn't, it's absolutely an option, either at commission or added later.
The vast majority of monohulls do not have a hard bimini, due to the increased windage. It's preferable to have one that folds away, if the need arises.

Looking forward to this series. Well done! Glad you chose the Seawind, that seems like a fit for me if I ever am able to hit the seas. I also find the Sirius DS35 and 40 very interesting for the mono hull route. Cheers!

Nick thank you for going to such a hardship as reviewing this yacht for us! Absolutely lovely boats - literally pocket superyachts. Oysters have circumnavigated in the antarctic ocean so I'm not sure what more an "expedition yacht" would particularly add (unless you really were going to get frozen into the ice. That said KM for example make some beautiful yachts too as do Hallberg Rassy, Contest, Sailing MF reviewed the Kraken yachts which look very very nice. That said I really think Oyster do make some of the most beautiful and well put together boats, if the lottery (and it would have to be a big one) comes up I'd seriously consider one. Even then $5 is a lot of money - the 565 would be cheaper and possibly easier to handle for a couple (plus shallower draft). That said I'd be very tempted by a cat - Dazcats would probably be where I'd look first. Sadly unlikely to ever have that kind of money.

    • @tomriley5790

@@ln5747 certainly - there are things on the garcia that might be more comfortable in some situations, I'm not sure if garcia's have actually frozen in and overwintered (if that's what you really want to do) and GRP probably isn't a good idea for that but Oysters have gone up to Svalbard and circumnavigated south of 70 south and you can spec them appropraitely. The garcia has a shallower minimum draft but ultimately there's few places you couldn't sail in an Oyster, certainly for the vast majority of sailors there's lots of things that you do have on oyster that you're not going to get on a Garcia too, and the Oyster is going to sail better and make faster passages, runs from weather etc. All boats are compromises in some way.

That’s a beautiful boat, whew. While the cloth (?) wall panels look gorgeous, I wonder how practical they are once salt air/water starts flinging about. Worst case, I guess the crew can haul them off to them cleaners. :)

If I won the lotto it would be a difficult choice between the Oyster 595 and the Amel 50. Amel has the industry beat in safety hands down but Oyster has everybody beat in quality and comfort unless you are taking serious custom boat builds. I digress we are taking about production boats here right. My main concern is the protection of the helm on passage. We all know the weather is unpredictable and Mother Nature can throw a serious storm in the middle of passage and on the 595 you are exposed. Amel has the helm protected under an integrated hard top/dodger that isn't an extra option. Neither brand has done a review on the electrical system like the Hylas 57, it can go full load for 12 hours on batteries. What are the creature comfort loads sustainable under the batteries for Oyster 595? How often do you have to charge while on the hook in tropical areas? Myself I'm not sleeping in hot and humid climates without air-conditioning I'll only need the master cabin AC. I want to drink my sundowner hang out in the cockpit until about close to midnight then retire to my cabin in climate controlled comfort without generator noise. Don't mind starting the genset in the morning, heck I like a hot sower first thing anyway and hot water is the perfect parasitic load on a generator. What about refrigeration options? An Atlantic crossing can take from as little as 14 day to 24 days. That's a lot of food if you want to eat more than canned goods toward the end of passage. Myself I'd prepare a lot of premade meals and freeze them so they could me microwaved and served. Not going to attempt cooking underway going across the Atlantic with a 4 person crew.

I've been following the Oyster lineup of yachts for a number of years now.....drooling along the way. They are without a doubt the most beautiful yachts around. The price of course makes me want to cry but can you really expect that quality for much less? I think not. If I won the lottery I would definitely consider this stunning boat. It does have some features that the 565 doesn't have like the extra room and built-in hydro-generator etc but the 565 is half a million pounds cheaper I believe. Thanks so much for a great tour.

Love your work, the filming is amazing. Your technical and scientific approach is what I appreciate the most, best I have ever seen. BUT I watched all your videos on your catamaran analysis and scorecard. You torched boats that did not have a forward facing helm (you did gently mix in how this boat was not your preference) or protected helm (you trashed Excess and they had a little though crappy protection), there is not a worse helm in all the boats you reviewed. This boat looks almost like everything you do not want on your new Seawind. Air flow looked poor compared to the cats which T focused on. According to your scorecard (which I think is an EXCELLENT system) I would assume you give this boat around 25 points? I did not see you point out the life raft but maybe I missed it. I missed the steering system, and does this mean you like in mast furling? You did say softly this is not the boat for you but I was expecting you to trash the areas you do not like. I miss that guy with his strong opinions, can we get him back? :) Still a big fan of you guys.

Hi Nick, thanks for eye candy. 😁 I realise you have all of these reviews already in the can, but for the next time it would be great if you could give actual dimensions for the beds. For live aboard couples, size does matter particularly in the warmer latitudes. Like Terysa we value space and ventilation in bed. Regards Ian
