The biggest problem is that no one really makes a copper cable that can handle 80 Gbit/second. I don't think 100 Gbit ethernet copper cables even exist at longer than 1 meter. At those speeds, we're pretty much exclusively at optical cables, and that makes stuff far more expensive - not just for the cable, but for the plugs as well.
I'm happy to see monitor specs finally outpacing GPU specs. For some reason displays are like power supplies to me where I only upgrade them every 5 years.
Display tech and PSU tech are honestly just two things that just don't improve at as fast a rate as everything else, so there's less reason to buy the newest one

Plouffe actually sold me on the oled monitor life, i got my self the LG variant and i think it was the best gaming purchased ive made in years. Black level alone worth it.
To defend his point slightly I have an AW3423DW I bought about 2 years ago, and I've gone through 2 panel refreshes and I have seen absolutely no degradation, not even a hint of a line when running test images to look for burn-in. The technology has gotten a lot better. For reference I play games like Destiny 2, MMOs, Baldur's Gate 3, etc for like 6-16 hours a day, EVERY day. I do take care of my monitor and don't do productivity tasks on it.
@@maolcogi "don't do productivity tasks on it" see this is the problem with people who champion OLED. Plot twist: the thing that makes you go "nope" isn't with the monitor, but the fact that DP80 will require hyper-expensive active cabling for any useful cable length (longest certified currently is 1.2m, will likely never exceed 1.5m for passive cables). And given that DSC isn't visible in any way, there's zero real world benefit to going without. Paying $100+ for a usable display cable, and the only difference it makes is to increase your power consumption a bit? No thanks!

When you have a bit of slack on your cables (not here, I know) it is comfortable to tilt the screen towards portrait to connect everything. Also. It's nice that the stand can do portrait in the off chance that you mount the screen on another stand and you give this one to your little sibling or your SO for their setup.
You guys should start testing flicker. This is (mis?)advertised as "flicker free" but does in fact flicker at an invisible to the human eye but not really that high frequency, similar to PWM on many OLED phones. This can give headaches, eyestrain etc to some users.
2 years of using my Alienware 34" UW QD OLED for 10-12 hours a day and no burn in as of today. Love the thing and will use it until it dies before I upgrade.
May I aks I recently bought this monitor and also have a 4090. Do I just use the HDMI cable or do I use the DisplayPort cable and plug it into the 4090 even when it's just 1.4? I'm a bit confused which will give better results?
There is also a version with DisplayPort version 1.4, which is well stocked (at least in the Netherlands). It's the version without the "P" in the name. The DP 2.1 version is not in stock and barely available here.
To be fair, you can't take advantage yet of the DP 2.1 version, because no gaming gpu supports DP 2.1 uhbr 20 yet and if you want a gpu capable of that you need to wait for the rtx 5000 series, so untill the 50 series you can't really even fully utilize DP 2.1, so it doesn't even matter that the 2.1 version is not in stock here. I can't choose right now between this Gigabyte or Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM or MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED. Is there any video comparing them side by side, especially HDR? Cause for some monitors it's only applied on the box but in reality when you turn on HDR nothing happens.
That's the kind of stuff that's done for low end LCDs, typically things rated for HDR400, that don't even have any kind of backlight control - they just know how to decode a HDR signal, but don't have the hardware to do anything with it. None of this is relevant for a high end monitor, especially an OLED one. Now, Windows isn't the best at handling HDR on a system level, but for any of these monitors there'll be a major difference in any HDR-enabled application or game. If you want more in depth data, look at HWUB/Monitors Unboxed or Rtings, they both do in depth testing of HDR functionality.

This is at least the 5th time I have said this on a LTT video but it obviously hasn't sunken in yet-PORTRAIT MODE IS FOR PLAYING ZACCARIA PINBALL!!!! Combined with a controller, Zaccaria Pinball in portrait mode on a 32 inch high resolution monitor is the closest you can get to a real machine.
Can confirm this thing is NUTS and for me the short cables are a bonus so it's altogether great! Just MAKE SURE you set DP to 1.4 or you end up with a ton of black screen and jankiness when hooked up to a dp1.4 GPU through the 2.1 cable. It's more of a future proof anyways given how few gpus even support 2.1
I absolutely ADORE my AlienWare AW3225QF! I was gonna get the ASUS one, but they were sold out everywhere and didn't have any indications for restock, so I got one with a better warranty and customer service XD And yes, I like curves, though it's not anywhere near as deep as my G7. Looking face on, can't even see it in the AW, the G7 you can...I still love it.
I'd love a direct comparison video between some of these ~$1300 monitors and MSI's $1000. There never seems to be more than 1 thing (maybe) different, but that price gap is crazy.
I think the msi doesn't have uhbr20, regardless, there are others like lg and Samsung that have good brand new models for interesting prices. But, personal opinion, 4k 240hz is totally useless. Only way to achieve that even with a future 5090 is going full dlss frame gen, which also means enabling Nvidia and co. to push on prices even further.
Nice! As an ex-owner of the Gigabyte Aorus FO48U (4K 120Hz 48"), I will probably get this as my next monitor. I have dynamic wallpaper, auto hide taskbar, auto screen saver, auto turn on monitor and all the oled care features turned on. If burn in happens after 4 years, then it happens. There's more important things to stress about.

It's ok Plouffe all you gotta do is get Linus to sign your old monitor and sell it for profit then you can buy this one. lol
Hurry up with the 21:9 versions of these manufactures, please! lol. One day.... one.... day.....
Monitors Unboxed did a video on Dp 2.1 cables and does go into detail about the speeds and 2.1 with compression.
I was gonna get the ASUS one, but they were sold out everywhere and didn't have any indications for restock, so I got one with a better warranty and customer service XD
And yes, I like curves, though it's not anywhere near as deep as my G7. Looking face on, can't even see it in the AW, the G7 you can...I still love it.
LOL at usage time. Yeah, read the fine print of your warranty!
Use portrait to plug everything in
I'd love a direct comparison video between some of these ~$1300 monitors and MSI's $1000.
Can't wait for the video where they try to find Wich monitor uses dp at 80gb vs one that uses dp with compression xD
QD-OLED glossy means cleaning = scratches. Just for everybody to keep in mind. Be very very careful and inform yourself before cleaning.
I noticed the QD panels look magenta while the W's are pitch black.
Nice! As an ex-owner of the Gigabyte Aorus FO48U (4K 120Hz 48"), I will probably get this as my next monitor. I am currently using a 4K 60Hz 28" monitor (massive downgrade), so look forward to getting myself an FO32U2P! The 240Hz will be remarkable vs this 60Hz I'm using now. Thanks for this review! 😊
Yeah putting your monitor into some 24" mode just to force uneven burn in patterns sounds like a great feature to have.
Suggestion for highlighting results 11:00 - while the dot was OK, would be better if it was a yellow underline or yellow box when highlighting figures.
No DSC should mean slightly lower latency (no compression/decompression). The difference in appearance is supposed to be imperceptible.
Only AMD cards support DP 2.1 at the moment, just so people know. I used to use the vertical option for Pinball-games, so there you go Plouffe!
When are we going to be able to get that mouse pad Plouffe is using?
Didn't think I'd live to see the day Unboxed Theraphy does a ShortCircuit episode. 🤣❤
Nice to see something in this size that isn't freaking curved!
Plouff still asking people to spend more money on a monitor than a GPU lol, hope this got you a discounted model, He's replaced all his screens & now he's onto the windows, QDOLEDs Everywhere at Plouff's house.
I got the FO32U2 on launch and it's great. 18% more money for the FO32U2P with a port I can't utilize and short cables, not worth it IMO. I do productivity stuff on it along with some gaming. I have dynamic wallpaper, auto hide taskbar, auto screen saver, auto turn on monitor and all the oled care features turned on. If burn in happens after 4 years, then it happens. There's more important things to stress about.
Why did the voice sounds so weird at the start
Puberty
Most likely it's noise removal, I think he leaned the box on his mic
Plouffe the goat
Wow, what a great feature on the press of one button. I turn my 32-inch qd-oled 24 inch to practice for esport . Just buy a cheap 1080 24inch 400hz rate
Plouffes monitor Kink showing up in the last mins😭
6:09 flick that bean!
Another great video Plouffe, thanks for doing this focus on monitors for us! Almost feels like time to upgrade from my Asus PG329Q,
Dope flannel by the way, brand?
Mine comes tomorrow
Am I the only one who thinks the display is gray and the frame is blacker than it? If so, then in a bright room we forget about the black color and return to the times of plasma TV, using it only in a dark room🙄
I thought that monitor didn’t have speakers. 😮
Who expected vesa to be the only company that’s able to name their cable standards something reasonable
I'm currently shopping for a monitor and looking to make a decision when Prime Day rolls around. Thank you for the review, I have added this display to the contenders that I would be ok making a decision on. The other display I'm very interested in is the Alienware AW2725DF. I'm on a full AMD machine (7800X3D/7900XT/64GBDDR5-6000)
great product review, fyi the other model did come with peel protector now too
