@4:18 But before going to registry modifcation you have to disable Tamper protection otherwise you can't create a new value in Windows Defender!
i just saw this comment you made. i did the regedit, and then turned off tamper protection. the regedit does not work as you mentioned. should i undo the regedit........and then redo regit (all while tampering protection is disabled?)
I followed your description and it didn't work when Tamper protection is enabled.. In fact windows doesn't allow you to modify the registry (security) until you disable this option.. This is what I noticed when I tried to follow your guide ..

That whole "Real-Time Protection" page doesn't have any information on it for me, it just tells me my device is vulnerable with no option to turn anything on.

This was really helpful. I installed avast antivirus by accident, it came with another app and i was just clicking yes. It was a malware, anyway i uninstalled the app, through normal uninstall or you can uninstall by going on the website.
I then had 2 problems. The first problem was that there was still leftover code files, so thanks to you i found these leftover files in reg edit and deleted them. The second problem was windows defender antivirus turned off after uninstall but i needed it working.
I went into the policies folder as you showed at the end, there was already a file named disable anti spyware.
I clicked on the file and the value was 1, so i changed it to 0. i restarted the computer and now it lets me scan and update with windows defender.

Earlier I used Mcafee antivirus so now when I go to enable Windows Defender it says "you'r using other antivirus Provider" but the period of Mcafee is over now so I want to enable windows defender but same problem again and again; Unable to Eable Windows Defender.

I have tried many times I have a new Dell computer and I try to download the program I have the windows defender off then the down loan tells me to reboot my computer and when it comes back on the defender is on when I turn it off and finish installing my program but it does not work

Edit: Windows changed it back automatically when booting up the PC a day later (used the "permanent" solution). Might have to do this every time I need to access virus & threat protection.

If you are using Windows Defender then you don't need other antivirus and most importantly you can't use any other antivirus with Windows Defender, as soon as you install other antivirus Windows Defender automatically turned off
