- A popular machine - this only differs in the number of stitches with any model number.
So if you have an FS40, you have 40 stitches, FS60 has 60 stitches and an FS100 has 100 stitches. Stitches aside, is the machine any good?

I have this machine and I love it. Increasing stitch length can be beneficial when sewing multiple layers. I am a beginner and have made a quilt, lots of bags, and cushion covers so far. Great little work horse 😁
There is a little black switch at the back of the presser foot that you push in that levels out the presser foot to sew thicker fabrics which works well, I have this machine and as a new ish sewer an not having the same issues as you are with the fabric going off to the left. I recently sewed a 3d face mask and the stitching is straight and that has interfacing too
Brilliant video! Thank you so much, I literally had this machine in my Amazon basket but it wouldn’t have been any good for my use after seeing your video. I do a lot of crafting and make padded fabric journal covers so this definitely wouldn’t have had the power I would need. I haven’t used a sewing machine before and can’t afford to spend hundreds, can you suggest a good machine please? I don’t do quilting or anything like that, would just like a nice variety of stitches. Thank you very much 😊🙏🏻
5 buttonholes, I loved it when you lost the screw and the plot too, sewing is a wonderful thing till something goes amiss then it's a complete pain.I subscribed a few weeks ago so working my way through your playlists an absolute mine of tips and information a BIG thankyou.
Dust covers are very important to protect your machine from general airborne grime around the home.
The offset shank on the twin needle is for use on a left position zig-zag machine.
The other problems you encountered were due to operator failure, not the machine.
I'm not sure the operator is at fault here - these machines are consistently poor - have you ever opened one to see the quality of the machine - dreadful.
The FS-40 has five buttonholes. I’m well impressed with you unwinding both screws at once after the jam 😊
There's five buttonholes. I always learn something new with every video - today's takeaway is how not to drop the needle into the machine :) xx
I believe it is a one step / 5 buttonholes machine...I love the twin needle option! If I win, and you are doing UK only, I will pass this forward to my BFF in Berkshire, UK. thank you, Jan
5 button holes. I have the Brother SE 600 it's not too bad but you need to have a few tricks up your sleeve. For fine fabrics use a smaller needle and place tape over the throat plate as the hole is to big as you saw it sucked in the fabric stabiliser also helps. These machines are not for heavy duty sewing and the computer is very finicky. On heavy fabrics I lengthen my stitches use a size 16 needle lower the tension slow down the sewing speed and use a hump jump over thick seams. I'm still practicing and learning to have patience.😊👍👍
There are five button holes, I used to have one of these machines and it sewed up loads of different outfits for me, but could have a mind of it’s own at times, thankfully we’ve moved onto a bigger and better one now

There are 5 styles of buttonholes on this machine. Loved watching the unboxing.
There are 5 buttonholes on this Brother FS40. But I’m so glad I’m getting the Necchi you’ve been using recently and not this one! I had been looking at Brother machines too until I saw your review of the Necchi x
FS 40 has 5 tipes of one step button holes. I absolutely love Brother Machines.
The machine has five different buttonhole options. I have this machine, so I loved watching you. I have lost the screw a couple of times, so I rub my tube turner on a magnet, it usually manages to find it lol
I'm surprised that this machine strugling so much. It was one of my choices when I was upgrading my janome. Instead I bought innovis n-15 which is only 2w more powerful and never have problem with sewing straight unlike my old Janome (85w). It's realy hard to find out how powerfull is machine before you buy it but many computerised new janome models have even lower power input. Great informative video like every of yours.
5 button holes.
The LS14 is the same for veering.. You gave me some advice on it last year Abi, so it must be a Brother thing, even though my old Jones machine doesn't do it.
There are 5 buttonhole on the FA-40. I appreciate the demonstration of the materials included with the sewing machine
Hi Abi, there are five different button holes on the brother FS-40,
I’m really glad I found your channel when I got my first machine a couple of months ago, I’m learning sew much from your videos but having two little ones running around I don’t get much time to use it in peace, x
5 button holes on the FS40. I’m so pleased I didn’t get this machine earlier in the year. I went for the innovis A50. It’s a great machine. 🥰❄️🎅🏻
thats a much better series - your prizefrom t'other day is on it's way!
Thank you for reviewing this machine. I was looking to purchase this but now having doubts.
Would someone please recommend a good machine for a beginner in the UK please ?
The Brother Fs-40 has 5 buttonholes on its selection, love your sewing machine reviews
There are 5 buttonholes on this machine.
I have this machine and I always thought I was just a bit rubbish at sewing when it would skip stitches and go off to the left lol
What an adorable sewing box! This Brother machine has 5 buttonhole types.
Hi Abi. There are 5 button holes types on the machine. I learn a little bit more on every one of your videos. Please keep making them. 😀👍🏼 🧵🪡 x x x
Hi Abi, there are five different buttonholes, i was going to say was a bargain as my Janome cost a lot more with 50 different stitches, but, yeah it’s not worth wasting money on a machine that seems to be straining to stitch straight. Thanks for showing us this review 👍 fingers and toes crossed for the competition!
5 buttonholes! While I was watching I went to check my brother machine and it's only 42W! It's powered through some tough stuff in the years I've had it. It's served me well... even if it does veer to the left a bit! ;)
BROTHER FS-40 sewing machine have 5 different types of buttonholes which is amazing! Merry Christmas, Abi.
There are 5 buttonholes.
I have a brother bc2100 which also tracks to the left.I have found moving the needle to the right helps.
Hi Abi, there are 5 button holes that comes with the sewing machine.
Hi Abi, there are 5 buttonhole on the brother you were reviewing. 5..!! Pity about the rest of it😱 I've got my Lidl silvercrest, it's basic but a wee workhorse. Been looking to upgrade, but...there's nothing wrong with mine, it's a great wee machine, I've got my Lidl Singer SO10L too, and thanks to all your tips and advice I'm slowly mastering it. Thanks for all your help, stay safe, stay sane! X
Hi Abi The brother Machine has 5 Button holes, Thank you for all you do, best wishes Kathy x
Hello Abi, great honest review. Never thought of changing my needle size when dealing with multiple layers 🤦♀️. In answer to your question there's 5 buttonhole stitches on the machine. Xx
Hi Abi. There were 5 button holes on that machine. Have to give it to you, you had more patience with it than I would have as it would have gone out the window before it jammed 🤣 Thanks for such a brilliant channel. X
Hi Abi , I’ve lost my needle down the hole before now and have never thought of covering it with a piece of material ! On your machine there were 5 different buttonhole options .
It’s how I’ve learned not to do it again 🤦🏽♀️ haha!!
This machine has 5 buttonholes. I loved the way you pushed it away when you lost the plot I was thinking the same thing. Lol Neither of my mechanical brothers hold the fabric straight while stitching and I thought it was just me. Now I can see I’m not going mad thank you 🙏🤣🤣. Do the more expensive brothers work any better? Xx
Hi, there are 5 different buttonholes. I found this vlog really informative as I’m currently borrowing my friends Brother FS100 and thought it was my lack of experience in sewing because the fabric kept veering to the left and it jammed up too. However, I have so loved using it compared to my clapped out broken Bush!
I have an FS130QC and heard of people returning them to Brother to be reset due to the veering to the left problem.
This machine does 5 different buttonholes. I love Brother machines - just ordered a new one and waiting impatiently for it to arrive :-)
The FS-40 has five buttonhole options. You lost the screw and lost the plot. Hahahahah. Love your channel xxx.
There are 5 buttonhole styles. I love unboxing videos, i find them really interesting seeing all the differents types of machines x
Hi Abi, there are 5 button holes on the brother FS40. Unfortunately I do not own a brother machine yet. Hopefully one day. Your videos are always informative for a newbie like me.
The FS40 you show in this video has 5 buttonholes. Hope you found that screw and got the machine sorted. I was wondering whether the machine has adjustable pressure as that seems to be a factor in using different fabrics?
It’s a great question. Unfortunately these models don’t have a presser foot 🦶 pressure dial. I was playing chauffeur today so I kept running off to do family things.
Hi Abi there are 5 button holes and I’m off to check the power on my machine! Thanks again
Hi Abi, the machine has 5 types of buttonholes. Thank you so much for your amazing and useful videos! I am a beginner and I bought this machine a couple of days ago. It was sad to see the problems the machine had during this video. Let's see what happens with mine during my learning journey. Greetings from London!
5 different button holes on the Brother FS40 I will know want to do if my machine jams again thank you for this video
Ani, thanks for another really useful video; I'm picking up all sorts of useful tips! The Brother machine has 5 different buttonholes!
Hi Abi, the machine has 5 automatic buttonholes. I can see people who are new to sewing being disheartened and thinking their skills are at fault when it is a problem with the machine.
There are 5 buttonholes in the Brother FS40. I have a Brother innovis 35 and up to press (while touching wood) my machine is working well.
Hi Abi what machine would you recommend please 😊
Every time you do one of these unboxing videos I’m so happy I went with the Necchi! I’m sure there are other good machines out there, but mine was such good value and has been brilliant so far. Oh there are 5 different buttonhole styles on the brother machine you unboxed x
Are you still loving the Necchi? Was it the Aldi one you got, I'm considering it!
@@toilworn1322 I’ve had it now for over 2 years and I’ve been very happy with it. Good points are the drop in bobbin, needle threaded, needle up/ needle down, range of stitches and easy to use. I’ve sewed loads on it, cotton, viscose, jersey, sweatshirt, cord, wool and it’s been great to develop my skills. A couple of things that could be better are the fact it doesn’t have a speed control, the lighting - I bought a stick on strip light from Amazon which improved it, button holes on stretch can be tricky, and it can struggle on thick fabric or thick seams. I now know what I’m looking for on my forever machine, but I will be paying 10x the price of the Necchi to get them! So overall a fantastic, value for money machine, which I highly recommend. Hope that helps x
@@toilworn1322 and yes it was from Aldi x
@@maggiemcdonald1346 Thanks so much that's so useful! I noticed it didn't have a speed control button. I guess careful footwork is required! Does it do a stretch stitch? I am new to sewing so might be getting a bit ahead of myself here but just thinking about the types of things I might want to make.
@@toilworn1322 yes you just have to be extra careful going around corners, although if I want to do something really slowly, say turning a corner I press the up/ down needle button so it does one stitch at a time. Yes it does have a stretch stitch and a stretch stitch button hole too. However if you are sewing jersey you can use a zig zag stitch too. You can also use a twin needle for hems too. When I was starting I found RUclips a fantastic resource for learning how to sew different fabric and garments etc.
Hi Abi. This is my first give-away ever. The machine have 5 different types of buttonholes. Greetings from Italy.

Hi I noticed you don’t have the led light on while you’re sewing. Did you switch it off? Because I can’t find a way to switch mine off.
The Fs40 has 5 buttonhole stitchs ....love watching you Sewing on RUclips x
Hi Abi, Thanks again for the tutorial and I felt your frustration with the screws, there are 5 Different buttonholes on this machins.
There is 5 different button holes with the machine Abi 🤞🏻I’m so glad up you put it to test with sewing multiple layers and different fabric types as that shows how frustrating choosing the wrong machine is and that’s it definitely worth doing your research before buying. I’ve seen these issues a lot with brother machines. So I stick to Bernina or Singer mechanical machines over the plastic computerised machines, they really have the best stitch quality and are much more durable over time.
There's 5 button holes on this machine.
Enjoyed the review of this. Think it would make for a frustrating sew
Hi Abi, 5 button holes on this brother. I have the FS100 and it too feeds to the left. Glad to hear it’s not just me 😂
😟
Hi, Abi new subscriber here from the PH, I'm just new to sewing and still currently using a 59 yrs old sewing machine, I think FS-40 would be a game changer when it comes to sewing. But I have to save a lot of money to buy this. Btw there are 5 button holes.

Hi, I’m a new subscriber, I found you yesterday when I was looking into the simple sew cocoon dress (after watching your video I don’t think I’ll attempt it) I’m a beginner so was looking for something simple to start with. I’m also slightly concerned because I’ve just brought a janome gd8100 and I’ve just looked on the back and it’s only got 35w of power, never thought about power when I got it. Anyhoo, love your videos. The machine from this video has 5 buttonhole settings, fingers crossed 😀
