Wow. By far, the BEST sewing machine review on YT. Thorough with multiple criteria, primary sources and demos for two different kinds of projects. You also took into account your own skill and comprehension of the machine instead of bashing the Singer's buttonhole function. Also, you are the ONE reviewer who recorded the voice of repair shops. A most fair, rigorous approach, respectful of viewers and manufacturers. Respect.
Lovely review. I have had my Brother Innovis A150 for about 4 months now. Always had budget machines before. The difference is mind boggling. I actually rush through my housework to get into my sewing space and try something new each day! It's a beautiful quality machine. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️
@Shizuyamie I highly recommend it for anyone who doesn't see themselves wanting to pursue large quilting or embroidery full-time. It is a solid all round garment and home decor machine that has some amazing features like dedicated twin needle function, mirror image of decorative stitches, beautiful buttonholes and more.
Hi! How is your machine working after almost a year? I'm thinking of buying my first machine and considering this model since I kind of have the budget and want to dive into making my own clothes. Would you say this machine is an overkill for a beginner?
The Singer begginer 1304 was my first machine. I got so stressed and anxious trying to learn how to thread it, bobbin and all. I didn't try sewing again for 5 years. Got a Brother XM2701 in 2020(?) and got the hang of threading it in around thirty minutes. The directions were clear and detailed, and even came with a DVD. 1304 is by no means a begginer machine, just a simpler one. I really hate how they market it for begginers when it's not begginer friendly.
You did a good job here. Kudos. Brother did a very good job with all their computerised FS machines. I have one (FS155) and I LOVE it. Does everything right. I use it for sewing button holes, fashion accessories, decorative stitching and monogramming on sewing projects. It works well with the extra sewing presser feet i throw on it for many projects like ruffler foot, hem and lock foot, elastic foot etc. Bottomline, I love Brother machines...they are easy to use and maintain, reliable and last for many years, have many stitch choices, easy to trouble shoot and make beautiful stitches always.
I purchased the Singer 3342 in 2020 and I love it. Since I was a beginner sewer, I watched countless videos on how to use the machine before it arrived in the mail. When I started sewing with the machine, I felt as if I had been using it for years. I have not had any issues with it. The buttonhole maker works great and I do not get skipped stitches on my machine. I just finished making a pair of pants using 16oz thick Terry Cloth fabric and a long sleeved ribbed top and they sewed up great. I think it's a good basic machine for beginners if you take the time to get to know it😊.
Wow this is one of the most informative videos I've seen on youtube regarding sewing machines. I currently own a singer simple and I've had so many problems with this machine - constantly having to rethread it, fabric jams, bobbin isues etc to the point where finishing a project feels impossible. I was worried that maybe I was just a bad sewer but seeing your video about some of the similar problems you ran into with another budget singer makes me feel better that it's not just me - I feel like these machines are not made very well. Thanks for making a super helpful video, I'm definitely going to look into switching to one of your recommendations.
Update - I recently bought a brother inovis and it is A MILLION times better. Yes it was way more expensive but it was completely worth it. I feel like my skills have improved significantly because now I can spend my time on actual sewing and construction instead of wasting so much time fixing jams and threading. Thank you so much for recommending this machine!
This was undoubtedly the best video I’ve seen relating to beginner sewing machines! Based on this, I’ll be purchasing your recommended machine which is one I was considering prior to watching this. You’re such a talented young woman! May God continue to bless you.
I am in love with you. I bought a beginner machine two years ago that was a very lightweight little chinese thingy and has been giving me grief ever since, so I decided to exchange for a better one but I simply cannot make a choice because I don't know whats best on either brand. Unfortunately im in brasil and none of the machines you've reviewed are available here, I can only try to find similar ones but this is the best and most objective review Ive seen of sewing machines ever. You're a goddess, please make more.
I am impressed with this video. Decades ago I reviewed computer gear for newsstand magazines so I know what goes into a major group test. The planning, organisation, testing, thinking, presentation, hassle, stress... there is far more to it than meets the eye. To do it this well is outstanding. Great job!
My mom just gave me her Brother innov is 40 (10-12 years old) computerized sewing machine and it still holds up and haven’t had any issues after all these years. Best sewing machine review
No idea how you would choose a singer or brother over a Janome. They are so precision and reliable and easy to use. I have several from low end manual to $$$ computerized. Love them all.
Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback. At the time of testing, the Singer and Brother models offered the same or more features as the Janomes at a lower price point, so I mostly focused on them. There is a Janome model in the test though. I'm glad you're happy with your machines :) From Sara.
Janome HD5000 will go through just about everything. Also, using other feet and needles will help. But don't get a super cheap machine get one that works well because beginners really need a good machine. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you so much for your in-depth review, am sure this was a lengthy process. I appreciate all your time, effort and attention to detail. I live in the US, purchased a Brother PS 500
Great video, to the ppint informative yet not humdrum or repetitive. Thank you so very much for your efforts and time spent. Very well structured and edited.
Wow, I wish all product reviews on RUclips were this clear and thorough! I've been wanting to break into the sewing world (nothing fancy, just think I'd enjoy knocking some clothes together out of old scrap material). However, every attempt I've made on my mother's older 30 y.o. machine has ended in frustration. I've decided I need to invest in something super duper basic (and hopefully idiot-proof). Thank you so much for the helpful video!
I don't sew nor do I know how to operate a sewing machine; I guess I just want to put my fabric underneath the needle and press push! 😅I'm glad you demonstrated how to basics and why each machine is good or bad. It made me realize what I should know. 👍
Thank you SOOOO MUCH I was just trying to look for a stitching machine for my mother as her old one got damaged. I know that she will be happy to see a new machine as a gift inshaAllah in this Eid 😍. Thanks again, you made it much better to choose. HUGE APPRECIATION❤❤️❤️!
Amazing!!! I watched so many videos to help me find what I need and yours is the best. Thank you so much for putting all this information for us! Appreciated!
Thanks for that ! I want to get into doing my own basic amendments to garments. I don't mind going to a tailors now and again, but I've learnt a lot lately about proper fitting, and realise a lot of my garments need amending, which makes it impractical and expensive to have them tailored ! I've gone with your recommendation of the Brother A16. I hope it's ok for someone who hasn't used a sewing machine before ! 🙂
I am so excited, in a few days my brother A 16 is arriving thanks to your video. I used to sew a bit when I was younger and while I wasn't sure what machine to get, you solved the issue. Thank you so much for such a thorough review and giving me the confidence to spend a bit more. Wish me luck!
For a straight guy wanting to get into making stuff weather it’s clothes or upholstery, im so grateful for this video, it’s nothing against the other female RUclipsrs but this video layout is exactly what I was looking for, right to the point, showing features of some and where others fall short, there’s no bs. Thank you so much
This video was posted a year ago. And it was the last one of the channel! Idc I'm subscribing anyway. I hope you come back and make a video for the best advanced machines out there. This was the most thorough and organized video I could find. I appreciate the work that went into creating it!
This was such an informative video and you have a lovely speaking voice! I am looking into starting sewing as a hobby and am overwhelmed with the machines to choose from as I don’t even know what to look for! This really helped, thank you!
8 later denim test is VERY USEFUL! Selvedge denim at higher weights are becoming more common. Having confidence in the machine to get through 16oz+ denim is a big win.
This is probably the best review of any, concerning whatever. Simply magnificent. Thank you for your tremendous expenditure of time, money and effort. I’m wishing you a million subscribers ASAP. I just became one. Cheers!
Hey Sarah, Thank You! I’m a seasoned sewer (sewest?) and this is the most accurate “testing” I’ve come across! In the future please consider doing a “best machine” for EVERY DAY sewing and quilting. I’m considering purchasing a Juki. I’m not looking for “bells and whistles”, rather durable, not industrial and would like modern conveniences i.e. automatic needle threader, decent straight stitch and automatic thread cutter. Happy Thanksgiving and stay safe. Mary (senior citizen) 🍀
Absolutely amazing review. It is honesly amazing knowledge to know what exactly works best for me since I do struggle with arthritis! definetly will be looking more into some of these machines
OMG Thank you for such a thorough video! I am finally replacing a machine that was stolen a few years ago and I would have been so frustrated if I had gotten one of the ones that the thread length changes with the speed. Probably would have assumed it was me. Thank you!!!
When ever I have been asked about buying a sewing machine I always ask "what don't you want?" If you don't want an all singing, all dancing machine or you want one with a few basics you can't do without or you want one that does embroidery, buttonholes, etc always buy the best you can afford, one that suit you NOT one that suits the seller. Then learn to use it properly. I inherited my mother's ancient (by today's standards) Pfaff. It is a superb machine, a Rolls Royce of a machine and despite its age I wouldn't part with it for a modern machine. It does do a lot of singing and dancing (embroidery, buttonholes, quilting, piping, darning, zips), however it also does all those essential basics. I would love to know the mileage it has done, a lot that is for sure. Today it would cost over £2,000. It was made to last, the only worry now is getting parts.
Thank you so much, very informative. I have a 10 year old Bernina and have never really enjoyed using it. I still have my Janome kept in the closet and now I think I'll trade the two machines out!
I'm not looking for a machine, I have a very nice Viking Topaz, but I was interested to hear your take on some of these budget Machines...It seems the comments on Amazon are all over the place. Thank you for your time and effort young lady, great job.
Really informative video, full of detail and so eloquently delivered. Hard to believe this is a sub 20 min video. Hopefully the attention this has earned will encourage you to keep the channel active and on going. Maybe threadsbianually can be a thing
I want to commend you on one of your articles. There was no opportunity to comment after the article, so I am doing it here. Its the one titled How to put a bobbin in any sewing machine -4 ways. I've looked for months for someone to acknowledge that there could be a problem trying to get the bobbin case to stay securely in a front loading machine. You mention that if thats a problem to "try turning the handwheel (towards you) to rotate the bobbin area until it’s positioned right and will accept the bobbin case." Everyone else just assumes that because they mentioned to position the needle in the highest spot before inserting the bobbin case, that we would forever remember to do that. It would be great if you could also make a video that would show what happens if the needle is not in its highest position when trying to insert a front loading bobbin.
I'll join the others and say that this was indeed the best sewing machines review I've seen ! Thank you for your great dedication and editing; interviewing really brings a quality aspect to it ! I can't spend too much on a machine, so I wanted the cs7000x initially, but it seems it's not available in Europe, so I think I might go with the fs40s ? I originally had the fs40 in mind but they made a new version of it, hopefully it suits me (it should, but the only thing that I worry about is fabric thickness/layers; hoping it still works even if it's a little noisy or hard) 🤞🏻
Wow! Thank you for all of the thoughtful (you’ve thought of everything), video. All of that research is very much appreciated! I now know what to purchase. ❤
That was extreaaaamly helpful thank you !!! so much details and thank you for going through all this trouble to help us. Side note, idk if I'm hallucinating or not but I think from a glimpse of a shot I saw that you're a hijabi and I was so pleasantly shockedd !! because your work is amazing and now I learn that youre my sister too ?? if you are I'm so proud of you sis, seriously 🥺🥺🥺🥹🥹 so much İhsan in your work and you're making us proud, if not then Im also honored to have watched your video. I understand that you probably were careful to showcase the machines and not your private self but I'm so happy either way forgive my nosiness 😅😂😂 love you and thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the video its very informative 💛 I haven't used a sewing machine in years, like 8 years now 😅 It wasnt even mine, it was my mamas and it was a Singer brand. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one that keep getting the nest thing and with the thing with how the bobbin kept getting messed up or stuck with a bunch of threads. One of the few things I learned was that there is difference in needle, when I kept breaking the ones that came with the Singer sewing machine. I had to use safety glasses just to be done as I needed my jean pant that bad and then learned from the internet that I had to use specific needle for jeans or something like that. Bought the new needles and needle for jeans, and then I haven't touched a sewing machine after that 😂 Which would you suggest to use for jeans or denims and pants that are kinda stretchy like a habitbukser (Danish)? I don't know what habitbukser is in English but I searched and it translated to "suit pant". I'm gonna add what habitbukser is made of 65% Viscose, 30% Nylon and 5% Elastane, so people might have some an idea what it is. I'm leaning towards the Brother a16 and fs-40 or fs-40s. If anybody else wanna join in, please do 😆
Hi, using the right needles and the right stitch is what makes it easy to sew stretchy fabric. Of course, using good quality machine helps. Btw, jeans and suit garments nowadays are added synthetic fibres like elastane to make them stretchy and accommodate different types of body shapes. So the key is "stretchy fabric". The Innovis line by Brother (starting with A) is very well received, while the FS line is more basic.
Hello and salam, I firstly want to day that this is the best review i have ever seen and im not just talking about sewing machines specifically. It was extremely thorough and easy to understand. I am hoping that you may be able to help me with some advice if possible please. I would really like to buy my mother a sewing machine. She has arthris and so its one if the few hobbies she really enjoys. She liked to sew basic tthings with the usual fabrics so it doesnt need to be very complex. The one she has has been a nightmare for 10 years and i would really like to save up and get her something rhat is easy to use. I was wondering if you have any updated recommendations as the video is a couple of years old. Many thanks in advance.
I know the singer start is not good but it was on sale from 250 aud to 130. So I got that I'll upgrade if I stick to this. I'm sure it will do to learn on.
Don't worry, you can sew with any machine really. My first sewing machine was much worse than the Singer Start haha, but I still enjoyed sewing and developed many skills.
I have a Kenmore that’s almost 2 decades old, that works well but never handled knit/gauzy fabrics well - it gets pulled under the plate and jams or threads get uneven tension. I also have a secondhand Brother with many options. It’s a delicate little snowflake. And needs me to choose the stitch, choose the needle location, etc. Too finicky. Also, can’t do denim well - probably due to the plastic parts (Vs Kenmore’s metal). In summary, if I had the patience my hand sewing still works best 😅
I have a Czech machine from 1959 that only sews a straight stitch. It looks like a tank but it sews like butter. So smooth and quiet. It can sew anything, denim, leather, without a hitch. Cost me $35. I wish more beginning sewists would consider vintage machines. So many wonderful old machines that need a home, and they don't cost much, and they'll last forever.
@@catsinpajamas Hi. I've been contemplating vintage machines lately. How do vintage machine users finish the raw edges of the fabric? I'm an absolute beginner so please pardon my question.
I loved this video, but dang to have the best you gotta spend a pretty penny, so I was wondering you know any sewing machines for beginners on a budget, new to the machines, easy to start with and not hard to use? If you could link some in the comments I would really appreciate it
I clicked on the channel to watch other of the expected hundreds of videos, but you only have made a handful.... Was very buffled. Really detailed reviews thanks. Hope you can make more videos in the future. Take care!...
I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for your feedback. It's definitely on my to do list to focus on RUclips after the holiday season. Thanks for the encouragement. From Sara :)
Thank you so much for such a thorough and comprehensive review of these machines! I'm wondering if you'd consider doing a similar one of mid-range ones? You mention the Innovis A150 at the end as your personal machine, but I'm wondering if you think it's the best for the mid-range options?
Thanks for the suggestion, that's a great idea. Hopefully I'll be able to start testing some in the new year. There's a lot more competition in that category so it will be interesting to see the results. From Sara :)
You have a lot of really good information one thing though You should pause a little longer between segments because it feels like an ongoing sentence ......hard to intake pros and cons.
Quick summary of each machine and where to buy them: link.threadsmonthly.com/beginner-machine
I'm in the USA I don't see Brother Innovis A150 link is there a comparable model I can buy?
❤❤❤❤
Wow this video is god sent. You are AMAZING FOR THIS. Not even 5 seconds in and i already trust u with my life😂😂
Aww haha, thank you! From Sara :)

Thank you so much, very informative. I have a 10 year old Bernina and have never really enjoyed using it. I still have my Janome kept in the closet and now I think I'll trade the two machines out!
THIS has got to be the best Comparison Video PERIOD. Sewing video yes, but I have yet to see a comparison video like this!
I appreciate how you communicate your research and for doing the research anyway. ❤❤
I can say this is the best video before my dissection of buying machine .. thank you
I'm not looking for a machine, I have a very nice Viking Topaz, but I was interested to hear your take on some of these budget Machines...It seems the comments on Amazon are all over the place. Thank you for your time and effort young lady, great job.
I bought a Bernette b42, after having a brother for 25 years no issues
Wow this is the most impressive review I've seen, and not just for sewing machines!
Really informative video, full of detail and so eloquently delivered. Hard to believe this is a sub 20 min video. Hopefully the attention this has earned will encourage you to keep the channel active and on going.
Maybe threadsbianually can be a thing
Thank you! Very informative, especially since I have no sewing experience what-so-ever, but looking to start shorting some of my jeans
Love this video ❤️ this video has helped me to choose my first ever machine...Brother LS14!!
Super excited to collect it later today...thank you xx
Oooh exciting! Best of luck with your new machine :) From Sara.
Please make more videos. This is pure wisdom.
Thank you! From Sara :)
Masha Allah Hard work gives best results 👏 thank you so much for information I'm just interesting in sewing and I excited to to start this hobby.
I learned from other videos that if you use a teflon foot for leather, faux or otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem
Thanks for watching. Yes that should work. For this test I only used the accessories that came with the machines though. From Sara :)
This is a really great video so much work you put in just for us 🥲
This vid is of such high quality! Super impressed with the work you devliered here. Rare germ to find on yt these days :D
I understand that you probably were careful to showcase the machines and not your private self but I'm so happy either way forgive my nosiness 😅😂😂 love you and thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is probably the best yt video i've ever seen.
This was a lot of effort, nice video 👍😊 I am trying to see what machine to get and this helped.
Thanks for watching and best of luck buying your sewing machine :) From Sara.
Thank you for the video its very informative 💛
I haven't used a sewing machine in years, like 8 years now 😅 It wasnt even mine, it was my mamas and it was a Singer brand. Bought the new needles and needle for jeans, and then I haven't touched a sewing machine after that 😂
Which would you suggest to use for jeans or denims and pants that are kinda stretchy like a habitbukser (Danish)?
Thanks for your honest work. I really appreciate it. Very helpful.
Thanks for your lovely feedback! From Sara :)
Hello and salam,
I firstly want to day that this is the best review i have ever seen and im not just talking about sewing machines specifically.
Thanks for the detailed and thorough review! I am beginning to sew and your research helped me so so much! 🙏
I'm glad to hear it. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your sewing journey! From Sara :)
@@ThreadsMonthly Thanks Sara!! 🥰
thank you so much for the last bit as i'm thinking of buying A150 sewing machine as a beginner~
@@ThreadsMonthly I cant wait. Thanks for the inspiration. Very good video. 👍
Thank you for this high quality video , detailed information, time and dedication ❤
Thank you for this great review! I will definitely buy through your link! I am so excited to watch this-i’ve been searching for weeks!!!
Thank you! Best of luck with your new machine. From Sara :)
This video was honestly so soooo useful!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🙏🏽❤️
thank you so much for making this video. i am thinking of getting brother a16.
I'm glad you found it useful. Good luck buying your new machine! From Sara
Best ever review i have seen on RUclips.
Hey! What machine would your recommend to a beginner that wants to use fabrics like thick wool, leather etc? :)
Semco indigo 6
Thanks so much, Sara! Very informative, and I don't think you missed a thing.
Thank you Karen! Sara :)
the quality of this video is crazy, ty and good job
do you have a recommend for slightly more expensive ones - would be a great video :)!
Thank you for making this video. Super in-depth and amazingly helpful.
The Favorite, Brother E16 is really hard to find in US. At least I didn't find it.
I loved this video, but dang to have the best you gotta spend a pretty penny, so I was wondering you know any sewing machines for beginners on a budget, new to the machines, easy to start with and not hard to use? If you could link some in the comments I would really appreciate it
Brother ls14s - threadsmonthly.com/best-sewing-machine-beginners/ Thanks for watching :)
Hii such a wonderful video for beginners! If I just want to make blankies or teddys which one do you recommend?
So much effort put into this video. Thankyou so much❤️ keep it up :)
Thank you Apurva! Sara :)
Incredible video! I appreciate that so much care and effort was put into this video. Lots of love!!
It was a beautiful very useful video ❤
My question which would you believe would be the better option a16 of fs60X
Thank you so much for such a thorough and comprehensive review of these machines! I'm wondering if you'd consider doing a similar one of mid-range ones? You mention the Innovis A150 at the end as your personal machine, but I'm wondering if you think it's the best for the mid-range options?
Great view. Thank you so much for the amazing details. I know which one I plan to buy now. Cheers.
I'm glad it helped. Best of luck with your new machine. Thanks for watching! From Sara :)
Great thorough review for beginners, thank you so much!
It would be awesome to get a similar comparison for mid range machines.
Thanks for the suggestion, that's a great idea. Hopefully I'll be able to start testing some in the new year. There's a lot more competition in that category so it will be interesting to see the results. From Sara :)
Loved your review it is very informative
Sister we need an updated reviews 2024 😊
Thank you so much :) From Sara.
Should I go for a brother a16 or a singer heavy duty 4432 if I could buy them for the same price?
You have a lot of really good information one thing though
You should pause a little longer between segments because it feels like an ongoing sentence ......hard to intake pros and cons.
Noted, thanks for your feedback. From Sara :)
