yep we are both in the beautiful land between 2 rivers. thanks for watching, i appreciate it! the owner hasnt did much with it for a while, he bought a house, so thats where all his $ is going thes days
def look at alot of different info, owner of the monte did that, alot of the people do not say what works correctly after the fact, we found that out with the steering, we did do some tie rod location changes that helped it to steer.
This project is so inspiring. I can't wait to do this kind of swap in my W-body. I took a look at the front 'spindles' for your car, and I have no idea how it can move the wheels forward from swapping sides. The strut and lower ball joint alignment is dead center of the wheel bearing, so it shouldn't change at all, unless you swapped the lower control arms and mounts too?
it changes the turn radius only, the tires want to scrub when turning, still need to figure that out. have some ideas how to correct it but havent tried any yet.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 After much writing and then starting over, I have 2 'simple' solutions. 1) Keep the stock Monte rack and use a reverse gear box ( www.colemanracing.com/Reverse-Drive-Gear-Box-P6316.aspx ). or 2) Measure the 'Stang steering rack travel compared to the stock Monte rack travel, and extend or shorten the spindle steering arm accordingly. Personally I would choose the first simply because I wouldn't trust a steering arm that was welded/drilled. Also you know the stock parts and geometry is already there, and the gear box can be pivoted to your liking before mounting. Just my humble thoughts :P EDIT: or 3) Weld on bump stops for the spindle, as the amount of steering angle might be greater if the steering rack has a longer throw than stock, and I think that's what's happening.
@@bluebeast440 would have been best to keep it rear steer, but you cannot do that beings its now rwd. the rack is in the way of everything when its in the stock location. so it was moved to the front. we swapped spindles from side to side, that changed the position of the tie rods, and changed the turn radius, the inner tire, when you turn must always turn sharper than the outside tire, we have the outside tire turning sharper than the inside, that causes the tires to scrub and makes it not want to turn. best way to correct it would be with a factory front steer spindle, we have some in mind to use but have not tried any yet.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 Ah yes, I found in one of your vids how it's all lined up. or rather, misaligned. I guess without an oil pan or crankshaft you could line up the rack perfectly! LoL From what I'm seeing, all you need is to make the tie rods an 's' shape that will cover any misalignment. The best part is you can still mount the tie rod end on top for more clearance. I remember trucks having S shaped tie rod ends for reasons just like this. No room to put the rack exactly in line with the steering arms. But those were thick cast iron. You could do it with an adapter in between made of steel.
