    I don’t understand why you would ever put fittings on before plastering. I always bring the boxes level with the plasterboard and tuck the wires in the box so the spread can get a lovely smooth finish . Nothing worse than having having lumpy plaster round the switch .
    If I’m using dry lining boxes I mark the positions where they are going on a plan . Then cut them out after it’s plastered.
    Plasterers i work with have respect for me and clean out boxes . Many times they say most electricians can’t even be bothered to tuck wires flush in boxes

      @@markrainford1219 Mark; the original, thirty-year-old fitting had already failed, then replacing that with a new box (a pretty simple task involving six original wires), the new box failed on one side, but not the other. Put another box in (one with yellow fixings - can't read the make - Appleby) and that has not failed, so likely the poor performance of the brass inserts, rather than my incompetence, as you blithely imply...I had also used a couple of the same box in other locations (again, because the original had already failed), with no brass insert pulling out problems. My preferred solution is to glue a bit of wood behind the fitting, then fit a metal backing box! Never had one of those fail! Skilled and experienced over 50 years, and possessed of considerable mechanical sympathy, so you may wish to reconsider your comment...

    Pushes the plasterboard into the whole, no box.. Hey presto! - BOX! Stop doing these fake vids. Also on site, its not a sparks job to cut the boards out. So you are encouraging a new norm. If you sell wholesale that's fine, maybe some of you are ex-sparks, but stop preaching that you are pro-sparks and this is how it is. You are eroding the trade for profit. Why are you 2nd fixing before the final skim and decoration? Also fire regs now insist that the back box touch the plaster... So your 3D-printed yellow box is a load of nonsense...

    • @CoolSteve08
      @CoolSteve08 Год назад +1

      In the UK we use solid wire in the walls because it doesn't need to be flexible because it should never have to move regularly. We use flexible cable for appliances because it will be moved around daily and solid wire is a) too stiff and b) would eventually break under repeated bending.
      But sometimes flexible cable is used in some situations for permanent installations where solid wire might not be appropriate e.g. due to temperature, or for another reason.

      @@CoolSteve08 Thank you very much! I'm italian and here we use only flexible wire althoug is not coated (it's a single cable, one for neutral one for live and one for earth) i think flexible wire is much more simpler to pull trough corrugated pipe, I remember once I had to took out 50 meters of some old rigid telephone wire from a private driveway, it took forever because there where a lot of curves and junction boxes, so it was harder because it bent a lot

      @@dvrn86 that would be worst case scenario. If the job has been scheduled properly (and this only really applies to new builds or total guts) both trades will be working on site at the same time. Electricians complete the roughin and install the marker plates then the boarders go round behind them and by the time the electrician is finished they can go back around and swap these for the marker plates and the outlets, light switches and anything else. Then the plasterers or painters go round. Then the sparks come back and properly complete the installation of the outlets.
