You’ve mastered not only the craft in question but the delicate art of explanation. Information + Humor = Proper Attention and Retention. I love to see it. Thank you for what you do and I hope all the best for you and yours.
I appreciate that comment. Thanks for watching ☺
And mastered paying farms for clicks, views, and comments LMAO
Phenomenal! You answer about a million little questions that so many of us struggle with, but are so hard to find answers to. Thank you for your integrity in insisting on doing things the right way. It will come back to you a many times over!
I appreciate this comment. And I try to think of all the things to say that I can say within a few minutes inside a video without going on and on (which I tend to do alot). I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
@@MountaineerOutdoors It really is a privilege to watch someone who isn't just going through the motions, but rather really understands the "DNA" of what is being done-- and you have the battle scars to prove it-- which earns a lot of respect from viewers!
Truly appreciate your comment ☺
Great video! I'm a DIY homeowner trying to wire my own shop and came across your channel. Subscribed! Great combo of pace, detail, explanation (didn't assume the viewer knows ANYTHING) and just the right amount of humor/personality thrown in! Thanks.
Welcome to the mountaineer outdoors family. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a great day ☺
Wow. Yet another degree has been acquired by watching RUclips. THANK YOU!
😂 😂 😂 My pleasure glad this helped you
I'm green as grass with electrical this video is exactly what I need. I'm surface mounting wires for my entire garage and mc cable is the cheapest option but I have never done it so. All these little thing were so helpful.
Awesome glad to hear that this helped you. Good luck with your job. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
This is my first time on you channel but already a sub. I love the way you teach. No bull and to the point. I love learning from true experts in there respective fields. Keep up the great work. I look forward to watching more of your content.
I appreciate that and welcome to the mountaineer outdoors family. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
I needed a very small piece of information from this video but it was so good that I watched the whole thing. I appreciate all of these little tips that only come from a lot of experience. Thanks!
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting and I am glad to hear that this helped you.
Another great tutorial. Personally I have used literally thousands of the "fingers inside" push in types. Absolutely love them. . .
They are very awesome. I appreciate you kindness. Have a great day ☺
Great video! As an apprentice this was really helpful for my first week working on mc. You earned a subscriber that’s for sure 🤙🏻
Awesome thanks for watching and commenting and welcome to the mountaineer outdoors family
Back in the 60's only thing to use was a hacksaw. By end of day always had at least 3 nicked knuckles. Almost kissed the supply house countetman who demonstrated a Roto Split. Purchased 1 for the van and and for the garage. Some dummies never replace the blade. Thanks for nice vid.
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thanks for the proper way to install the MC cable. I was directed wrong at my local depot. I didn't like the way it looked so I came here to find out. Now its back to the store to pick up the right ends so my job will be correct. God Bless
Awesome so glad to hear that this helped you ☺. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
Excellent video! I've held my Master Electrical license for over 30 years but worked almost exclusive in commercial and industrial settings where MC cable was not permitted either by code or the customer. Being that my use of and experience with MC cable is almost non-existant, this was an excellent learning opportunity for me. Thank you very much. Keep posting!
Awesome I am glad that you learned something. Your never too old to learn, I learn everyday. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
i am new, this is my first rodeo but i had a garage built in my backyard and i am bound and determined to wire it myself, thank you for getting me started!!
Good luck take your time. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Glad you demonstrated the red head in the proper position on the 90 where you can see it through the inspection slot. We don't have to (I still do) use them in my state on MC, but I had to open, re-adjust and show the inspector each one while running AC because I had them to far forward. Great video. I'll have to get a set of those Kleins because the although I love the rotosplit, its way to bulky and you end up bending the handles. Thanks.
I know what you mean on the handle Bending. I appreciate you watching and your comment. Have a wonderful Christmas
Used at least 4 brands of type AC ( BX ) or MC cable jacket strippers. Found Roto Flex to be the best. I always use the red anti short bushings. After stripping jacket always cut the edge at a 45 degree angle to protect conductor jacket.
My goodness. This video is so helpful. All the stores I visited were trying to sell me the wrong connectors. Thanks so much.
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Appreciate the humor u brought to this video. Was very entertaining to watch. And I was just wanting to learn
I appreciate your comment and watching ☺ have a great day ☺
Omg I just started my using bx cable in my shop class and this video has been so great better than my Instructer unfortunately ty love you man!

One of the most informative MC videos!
I appreciate that comment and watching. Have a great day ☺
This was an absolutely fantastic video. Thank you for showing me the right way to do it. I learned a lot!
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thank you good sir! You have prevented me from doing some really stupid stuff. Glad I got to learn from you the right way to work with MC cable. I am a typical "Harry the Homeowner", and trying to install some LED shop lights in my garage. Your instruction just saved me a ton of embarrassment and possible shocks.
Glad this helped you. I appreciate your comment and watching ☺
Been using the Klein BX pliers technique since I worked for them in the early 80s. I use them exactly like you do. Just bought a new Klein 53725 BX cable cutter. I may not even open the package since you confirmed that the technique I’ve been using for 40 years with the pliers is endorsed by another pro.
😂 😂 Great comment thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thanks, this was a really good video explaining the various connectors, what to do and what not to do. Great job!
I appreciate it thanks for watching and commenting ☺
I work at Lowes in the electrical department. This video was extremely helpful.

We learn an get fun at the same time ! Tha is why I love your videos. Thanks .!
Awesome thanks for the kind words.
You are a good teacher sir! Thank you for the video. It has given me the confidence to tackle a small repair job.
Glad to help
When I wired my house I used AC or armored cable. It didn't have a green ground wire but instead relied on the armor itself as the return path. An aluminum bond wire runs through it to maintain continuity through the spirals. With this I stripped off the armor, put the red hat on as you did and bend the aluminum bond wire over the red had as you did with the plastic and wound it around the spirals. The connectors I used were small, had the locknut and just a screw to hold the it to the armor. I was told some electricians used to wind the aluminum bond wire around the setscrew.
Gotcha yep that definitely works.. I appreciate your comment and watching ☺
Crappiest ground wire ever made. Was told at IAEI continuing education classes several times that this maybe #18 guage bare aluminum wire is in constant contact with the armored jacket. Was always told to never have dissimilar metals touch one another because of galavant reaction yet this aluminum fragile ground is in contact with steel jacket. Best practice is to use only MC cable with a full sized insulated green ground conductor.
Informative. Replacing my wood-framed shop (burned down) with metal framed building. First time using MC.
Good luck just take your time.. Happy new year
Thank you, thank you and thank you!!! Awesome content, with humor!

I appreciate your comment and watching ☺
my first video about MC and salute to you boss!
Awesome glad that you found my channel. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Thank you for your instruction.. very well done!!!
I appreciate it ☺
Great video. One thing that makes you above others is your command of the language.
Point: the connector you held up first saying don't use. There is another connector that looks almost exactly like it, but has a small, hard to see bump on it for grabbing the spiral and has the restriction on the end so the cladding cannot enter the box. It is labeled for MC. I have an unopened package and an opened one. I used some of those on my project years ago, but also have the squeeze type. I regret ever purchasing the "almost" NM /romex ones.
They have another version two that is two circles closing together which would seem to be better, but the ones you show look even better for gripping the spirals.
I appreciate your comment and nice words and especially you watching. Have a great day ☺
Great video, I learned what I needed to know, Thanks
Excellent thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Good stuff. Thnx for taking the time
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
I don’t hate those push in connectors, until you have to take them out of the box. The first time I used one I brute forced the wire out of the wire end. I learned pretty quickly learned to unscrew the wire and it worked. I’ve also had to remove the fitting from the box side by pressing the retaining tabs in with a screwdriver. It was a bit of a waste of time but it worked, instead of pulling the ring clamp off it.
Also I prefer the roto splits just because they’re cool to use lol.
Nice done very pro and simple way to explain...
Thank you I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
We call it red hat/cap north east.. I like your klein tool to round out the cable.. I dont have one of them. great fun video!

Awesome!!! Welcome to the mountaineer outdoors family ☺
I have rewired most of my house this past week. Tomorrow installing a second panel in the garage... And at 0200 this morning, I finished up my dishwasher rewire with 6 feet of MC. That 14/2 Romex snaking through the cabinet was pretty tore up, I believe we averted a potential fire. Thanks for the MC video, it was timely to say the least, and one of the best out there in my book. Amazing what you find when you start projects like this.
Awesome glad to hear that this video is helpful to you. I agree snaking through cabinetry does make the wire pretty scared up. Good luck on your other projects. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Thank you for the good video.
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Anti-short bushings are not required for Type MC cable in accordance with the listing for the product. The termination fittings approved for use with Type MC cables are designed such that the wires will not come in contact with the cut edge of the armor; the throat of the fitting is small enough to prevent contact with the armor. Type MC termination fittings perform the same function for Type MC cable as Type AC terminations plus the anti-short bushing do for Type AC cable. Direct quote from the NEC panel… other guy was right but didn’t know why
There actually is a combination connector than can be used for MC cable and also NM cable that is very similar to a regular Romex connector. It has a barrier in the front for the armor of the MC to butt up against.
Thanks I appreciate it
I use them
Installing some MC cabling in the house this weekend and your video answered the questions I had about the process. Thank you for the excellent content man. PS your first tip when messing with metal electrical boxes and MC cable should be always uses gloves. I just learned this the hard way. I thought I was being careful but later that night my hands started throbbing from all the micro cuts I got just from handling the metal boxes bare handed lol.
That awesome and I too learned the hard way gloves are a must. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
gonna try and work with MC cable next week
Good luck.. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it
great vid dude
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
great video
thank you
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Awesome video I have a quick question, is it allow to use regular electrical boxes (normally used for home) for MC conduit without those Connectors that you used?. what I meant will they pass the inspection code?.
Nope they have to be able to be secured in the box. The plastic boxes are not for that. They do make plastic boxes with 1/2 knock outs in them then it would be legal
Fo 4 gang steel switch boxes with mounting brackets need to be supported on the otherside?
really nice videos! you got a like
That's awesome and I truly appreciate it ☺
i have always used wire cutters to strip off as well then i used plyers to round off the one tool would be nice . as far as redeye i call them a sleeve and call it over kill but i always use two with the slit opposite of each other so wire is protected all the way around
That's a great idea and so glad that you pointed that out. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Very helpful video, thanks. BTW, I have had nothing but bad luck with the "snap2it" connectors--very difficult or impossible to force the MC cable into the connector, destroys the anti-short bushing in the process, and tears up the conductor insulation when you are unsuccessful and have to pull the cable back out. At almost $2 each, they also seem overpriced.
Agreed thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Informative and entertaining.
I appreciate it ☺
good job man
Thank you I appreciate it ☺
Excelente mi amigo
Gracias thanks for watching and commenting ☺
1:07 seconds in just getting the common sense out of the way no BS straight to the point with info.. Liked and Sub'd I don't even care if you ask for it at the end you're content is worth my love. :D
😂 😂 😂 I appreciate you and your subscription.. Welcome to the mountaineer outdoors family
Doing target remodels.... very helpful information
Awesome man.. I did those once too with lin Roger's electrical all over North Carolina
thank you on the mc video
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
When you have the time, could you expand on mc cable? When was it first introduced, the reason behind it, where it can or easier to say, where it can't be used?
Great idea for a video. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
great video. only issue is the plastic sheath. i don't think you're supposed to pull it back, the sheath provides extremely little tension support. you want the MC connector to touch the metal sheathing to bond it to ground.
I can agree with that. Good point and I appreciate your comment. Have a great day ☺
Great video. What about the MC connectors that have an odd opening at the end where even if you have the red-head installed - it looks to me like you still could short out the wire after the red-head and the end of the FMC connector. These types are mostly what they sell at HD and Lowes. I never felt like it was a good idea to use them - they are MC rated through. I like the pieces where their is a (red) insulation ring around the opening.
I agree with you, I like sticking to the ones that I feel comfortable with. Always trust your gut for sure
I am working with a squeeze 90 Deg connector. It does not have any insulation on the throat, such as the one you show. When is insulation needed at the throat? Great video, thanks!
It's not required by code but I would always go above and beyond what is code. Better safe than sorry
looking for the pliers you used to cut and round the mc cable
amzn.to/3oz7igo here is a direct link to them
Thank you 🙏 señor..
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting
How can you tell what size fittings to get? The roll of 14/2 doesn’t have a diameter or trade size listed.
I figured 3/8 clamp connectors and either 5/16 or 3/8 anti shorts but nowhere on the product does it tell you usually.
I believe they all fit from 14-10
I need to connect MC cable (12/2) to 1/2" EMT conduit. Do you have a video on how to do that without using a box as a connection point? I would like to go directly between the two using just one connector. Could you also give a part number or purchase place for it?
Thank you.
Now that's a good idea for a video. All you need to do is put a emt connector and a rigid coupling. And use a tite bite mc connector or one with threads.
Do they make metal anti shorts instead of plastic? I can't seem to find them and I'm working on a commercial popcorn kettle that has mc connected to it but no anti short bushing and it's needed. I believe the red plastic one would melt.
No they dont, and it wont melt.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the super chat I truly appreciate it alot.
Is it best to pull the mc from the middle of the roll or the outside of the roll??? which get's you in proper position to pull thru metal studs without catching.
So with that, I'd say see which way the mc is naturally going it will slide through so much better one way than the other. Just depends on how it's wound
Is there a compression fitting for MC cable or any waterproof adapters, or connectors for MC cable outside?
I believe that If you use the outdoor rated mc cable which will have a pvc jacket on it then you can use it outdoors. That's all that I am aware of
Yes to wrapping the wire with electrical tape and pushing it in.
On the part of your video using a 90 degree connector and MC, how is the inspector able to see the red eye from where you terminated the MC and replaced the connector's cover? The MC is flexible enough to terminate it against the stop and make the red eye visible to see.
Most of the 90 you can see if you look the red eye in there.
Great video!
I got electrocuted the other day changing a fuse lol.
😂 😂 Glad to see you are still around
@@MountaineerOutdoors Working on the sub panel this weekend; thanks for all your help! Have a good one.
Good luck any problems holler at me.
Is there a way to splice 2 pieces of bx? Found a splice with duct tape when I removed my drywall.
Use a junction box. We call those free air splices where I come from
Can you do an update to this video using 12/3 Health Care Facility Aluminum MC Stat Cable?
Well that would be great but I don't have any mc with that drain and not sure if I could find some. But if I do Def will
What are your thoughts on the screw-in cable ends?
Never used them.
👍🏻🙏🏼 Thanks!!
