Not only was it encouraging, like he knew you could easily do it with a little more training, but it was a wholesome and funny thing to say to lighten the mood and lift your spirits after failing to lift. What makes this so much harder than a normal deadlift? 180kg is still a lot, but the record is over 500kg. Is it the thicker bar or the lack of straps or something?

That 170kg deadlift with the thick bar was crazy Emil. As much as you thought it was your weakest event, that's probably where you have the most potential considering how new you are to the movement. Your absolute grip strength is insane, nevermind for your bodyweght lol. Well done. If you wanted to go down that route, gaining maybe 10kg of bodymass and doing some basic compound movements might put you near the top of that podium in under a year.
I can totally see why people enjoy watching you do these competitions. It’s fascinating to see someone of your size up against these huge guys and it’s nice to see the admiration they have for you.

I doubt it. Like body type is a thing, you don't just go from his build to their builds. You can build up muscle but that doesn't give you the proportions, like shoulder width and whatnot. For the same reason but from the opposite side, I'm 5'11" but my goal weight is 240-250 lbs because I'd have to literally amputate a limb to go much below that.
It's wild the amount of mutual respect support that the competitors showed. And watching huge guys struggle against a lightweight in certain tests also goes to show how training and builds suit different tasks.
That is absolutely insane and I think I can speak for all of us who have watched you over the years that We are all proud of you and can't wait to see what happens in the years to come!!!!! Simply amazing 👏 👏 👏

That was a fun watch! I think with a litle deadlift training your grip strength will outshine others. Looked like in some cases that it would have been ok for the grip but legs were not on par. This made the lift take longer or be in akward angle.
The sportsmanship in these competitions is insane. I've noticed across all these sort of lifting competitions like this that the comradery is unmatched, everyone is just hyped to see others push their limit

Dude, going for a 105 KG single hand lift is INSANE for a squirrel like you (comparably obviously, don't take me seriouisly xD). Might be tiny compared to the other competitors, but that's some serious viking genes in action!
i'm not one for sports, nor really any type of bodybuilding or strength stuff. but this was very fun to watch. i was rooting for all of you. i love that you're all just rooting for each other even when you're compeateing. i love the good sportsmanship and good vibes shown. gentle giants are the best man. and holy shit, when you get to some of the harder lifts and the big boys are struggling to lift it, you can see their arms shake like crazy, and then you swoop in and lift it seemingly with no trouble, in just one swoop. that was just so cool. definitely deserve a moment on that podium even tho you placed 4th, philip had the right idea.
I don't watch rock climbing, or power lifting so I have no clue why your original video popped into my feed. But I watched it and I was hooked from the start. I'm subscribed now.
It is always a treat to see how experience in climbing and specific and overall athleticism translate into other sports, especially when represented by some of the best of that world 🙌🏻 ability to compete toe to toe with such formidable athletes in their sport, what a testament to sheer strength and determination
After seeing what you and Magnus can do in these various disciplines just walking in without experience, I'm convinced that rock climbing is the best overall sport for strength and fitness in the world.

5:20 the guy he's pulling is Brad Grundy, an insanely strong American. I've had Brad at my house for a practice before, and he made every local strong guy look like a chump. He stayed on the table for 4 hours, and nobody got close to pinning him or even gaining position.
Thank you for prompting me to get back to some grip training. After getting back in the gym I can feel the weakness when I deadlift, and while I'm never going to beat any PRs at this point, I would like to get close to where I was. Incredible performance!

It’s awesome that they invited you to train with them. During the first competition I figured your weak spot would be lifting, since all of your climbing experience is focused on pulling down instead of lifting up. Another year of training, and you’ll be on that podium.

I thought I was going mad from falling too much, I swear I just watched the Grip Strength video like 3 days ago. Glad to see I'm not crazy and you're still kicking ass and taking names.
The fact you can just jump into this and with your body weight and still compete at such a high level is insane, imagine if you seriously trained then you would actually be insane.
There's a lot of parralles between climbing and powerlifting, grip strength and strongman communities. Yeah sure they all compete to win but there's usually alot of support and comradery between everyone... it's fantastic, love seeing it here too.
Emil, serioulsy(and I'm sure I'm not the first one telling you this, someone in your vicinity must have), but you have zero technique in deadlift, so that's most likely what made you fail, not your grip strength. I other words, if this is something you want to do, have several knowledgeable people analyze your form from all your lifts and then get to work dude, and you will break records!
Well done on communicating this feedback. 1. pointing out room for improvement 2. acknowledging that he might not be interested 3. precise actions points what to do 4. motivational and supportive. You sir, gave a feedback template that could teach all the self-proclaimed experts how motivate others to achieve greatness, instead of giving empty unsolicited advice.
For sure. The total time holding that bar was long enough to finish the lift with a bit more pulling strength; not that it’s that simple necessarily but it showed a lot of potential
