  • @aprilshighfantasysoul5891
    @aprilshighfantasysoul5891 5 месяцев назад +5

    I LOVE that they expanded Aang and Zuko's convo after the escape - in the animated version, it's just Aang comparing Zuko to Kuzon and saying 'we could have been friends' but in the live action, Aang connects with Zuko himself...as Zuko. It's so heartbreaking that it feels like Aang complementing Zuko's notebook was probably one of the only times Zuko has been told he did a good job at something and we got to really see their connection. I think the live action writers really knew which storylines to combine and streamline and which to give more time to breathe (like Answer mentioned, the animated version of The Blue Spirit episode had that whole side quest of Aang getting frozen frogs for Katara and Sokka and they were randomly MIA because of a flu - here, they connected Aang's capture to the story rather than having it a random occurrence)

  • @BlueRoseWolfie

    I think this one might be my favorite too. I was so obsessed with the Blue Mask scenes, they did so well! I do like the added details of his crew being the 41st and the ones he sort of rescued. All new recruits so of course they will make mistakes and frustrate Zuko. This was a powerful episode. I am so happy were getting 2 more seasons. I wait in severe anticipation for when Zuko says "That's rough buddy." Cause YOU KNOW, they have to include that line, its iconic and a fan favorite, we will riot if not included. Just like "My cabbages!"

    • @Lothiril
      @Lothiril 6 месяцев назад +10

      Personally, I won't riot if they don't include that line. Dante made it a classic, but there's no need to try and copy it - for all the cartoon purists it won't ever be good enough anyway.

    The inclusion of the Mother of Faces was one of my fav things from this episode! Love that they’re incorporating the comics into the show as well!!
    Would definitely recommend you guys to check out the post-cartoon comics and the Kyoshi & Yangchen novels (+ the Roku one coming this year), they have so much story to give & answer certain questions; the novels also go into the previous avatars stories and are incredible!

    I think it’s nice that the creators included lore that was only talked about in the comic books for example the Mother of Faces. Especially since readers of the comics know how big of a role the Mother of Faces was to Zukos mom. I like they gave background to Zuko crew when it’s not talked about in the original along with some newer ideas in the show.

    for me a couple of the reasons that they aren't doing 1 for 1 copy is one - live action and animated are actually very different languages. A lot of the things that happens in animated would come out as too fake and weird, and second, and i say this in te nicest way possible, what would be the point in that? why not just rewatch the og? why spend that amount of money to just retell the exactly same story? and i love the animated og version, but for me, this episode is what this whole live action show should have been because it builts on the original story, it adds more dept to zuko's crew without taking away from the story.
    Love this reactions

  • @tadybea
    @tadybea 6 месяцев назад +6

    This is what a live adaptation should be like always. The really important stuff is maintained and some of the fun elements (the bamboo ladder) also being brought to life, and then iron’s voice over and the 41st division added to the story rather than change the story. So this was absolutely perfect ❤

    When Ozai declared Agni Kai on Zuko, I think this live action version actually made more sense.
    The animated version always felt like the Agni Kai was punishment for Zuko speaking out of turn.
    But here, it's done because the General made the sacrifice suggestion and Ozai agreed... but then Zuko calls it a stupid plan, indirectly calling Ozai stupid since Ozai did agree to it. A son unintentionally called his father stupid.

    • @almaicardi
      @almaicardi 6 месяцев назад +2

      You make an excellent point. Although the animated series is my all-time favorite, it was not without some minor flaws. My own personal opinion is that this adaptation is nowhere near as good as the original. But I do still like (not love) this show, and this is one of the changes I did appreciate.

    • @NinaG494
      @NinaG494 3 месяца назад +1

      I understand where you’re coming from here, but I disagree. Simply because in the cartoon zuko “spoke out of turn” instead of actually insulting his father but Ozai perceives it that way. I think it adds to ozai’s cruelty and understanding zuko’s dynamic with his father. Chasing after approval that he will never get because of how unreasonable his dad is. Even letting zuko get a few punches in the Agni Kai instead of having him ask his father for forgiveness. In the cartoon when zuko gets burned by his father I saw it as his innocence and childhood being stripped away but making the burn more of a lesson because zuko was”weak” I think changes that for me personally. It gives an understanding to ozai that I don’t like because he is supposed to be a terrible person

      For me the frustrating part is that they opt to use animated characters/plots/places/etc. and then just twist things up. They make up a lot of original stuff that feels ok, but when you start using animated stuff like this it just feels like they could have easily stuck closer to the original, and it would have bettered the show

    • @almaicardi
      @almaicardi 6 месяцев назад +3

      @franzferdinand5810 I totally get and respect that not everyone likes the show. We all have our reasons for liking or disliking it. What I don't understand are the insults, anger, and hatefuless towards those who don't share our opinions. I'm all for healthy dialog, but this is nuts. Why is it so hard for people to accept and respect that we are all different with different tastes? It's a TV show. Humanity's fate is not being determined here. We're not talking about cures for diseases or solving world hunger. It's just not that serious.

    The fact this was directed by different people goes to show how good the source material is. If you utilize the source material, theres hardly any need to juggle or brainstorm new ideas. The difficulty is in laying out the sour material in different format. Because the fans didnt want a 1:1 copy of the original animation, and so far the pacing has been slightly above par.

    I think there is a lot to take take in all these past episodes and the changes. So a long post about the good and the bad, starting with the bad:
    - Last episode introduced Hei Bai and did not resolve his unrest in this episode, nor did we see his panda form, which I wish would resolve. They also introduced Wan Shi Tong though this one I can understand, because they are worried they might not get a chance to because they didn't know if there was going to be a season 2 at that point and wanted to throw that in there
    - Gyatso leaving his hut in the spirit world was a bit of a cliffhanger, because we don't know why he couldn't stay even though it's been 100 years since he surpassingly waited for Aang and there doesn't seem to have any reason for him to go, hopefully he makes a return in the future
    - King Bumi being bitter, though some people argue it's more realistic, perhaps, it's uncomfortable to make trusted friend Aang had into an almost enemy, and to see him so cruel, especially to child who already has difficultly accepting the responsibilities of being the Avatar and saving the world.
    - The caves were more about Sokka and Katara, siblings and not saved for Aang and Katara, who we know will end up together, makes it and uncomfortable thing, even though it was about love, sibling love and not falling in love, but still.
    - The Roku scene might be more mixed, he brought a bit of humor, but the original counterpart made sense because he felt guilt and regret that he didn't take out Sozin, leading to genocide of the air nomads, and a 100 year war. It was his mess that Aang had to fix. I somewhat don't mind the humor but it felt a little out of place
    The good:
    - Iroh and Ozai despite being brothers, have no interactions in the original, but here we actually see him try to defend Zuko
    - June was about as perfectly casted as you can get. Looks like here and a cold personality of a bounty hunter, her liking Iroh is no issue here
    - Gyatso appearing in the spirit world telling Aang it's not his fault he left, because he would also have dies and couldn't save the air nomads gave Aang comfort and forgiveness he needed
    - The sequence with the blue spirit was about as well translated as it could have gotten, a well executed scene
    - The 41st division was really one of the best scenes of this episode. From the remorseful look on Jee's face, to his crew bowing to respect how because of him speaking up for them, he got burned, banished and sent on what thought to be an impossible mission to Iroh's proud look

    Funny how everyone in the comments are praising this episode for being the best out of the series, when it was the most accurate depiction of the original. Then these are same people that are commenting on other posts “no one wanted a carbon copy remake” . DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT PEOPLE. You cannot defend the atrocities from other episodes because they wanted to make things different, and then praise this episode bc they made things so accurate.

    Oak, it wasn't an action movie... It was Twilight Eclipse... When Edward and Jacob were talking and Edward said, "If we weren't natural enemies, and you weren't trying to steal my reason for existing, I think I might actually like you." Lol

    I think this show did fine, I liked it. But there is too much exposition dialogue. If they learn from reviews and cut out all the exposition, then we good.

      i truly believe the reason there's so much exposition is because writers know how dead media literacy is lol. people nowadays need EVERYTHING explaining to them while watching a show/movie and believe if smth isn't outright said then it Must be a plothole. just this past week avatar fans have been coming out with the worst takes in history all over twitter, just proving how much they didn't understand the show or characters 😅

    I liked the adding the back story of why zuko has the crew he does, but that’s one of the only things I truly really liked that they did. These are the type of changes I wanted ones that added depth to the story and reasoning. Not changing plot points, character arcs, and other things with imo seemingly no reason. I just can’t get over the fact that it felt like there was no purpose to the changes so it was hard for me to get on board with. No reason to make it word for word and one for one but it feels so different to me and maybe that’s just my nostalgia speaking. Thinking of this show outside of the cartoon and something separate I can appreciate it more and even like it because it is entertaining. So for my own sanity I’ve decided it’s an alternate universe because it lets me enjoy it more than I really feel.

    I hope you guys keep in mind that a lot of people just hate it because its different. Their obsessed love for the original clouds their judgement, even when something is done better and more realistic these people will never admit that. In my opinion these people are very nitpicky and i think a straight up copy from the cartoon is unrealistic and also quite boring. I dont understand why people pretend like the original is perfect and has 0 flaws(example aangs sudden struggle in the last season of having to kill ozai while before having killed and hurt LOADS of innocent people fighting and never having a problem with it)
    Even tho some things are done a bit different you cant deny that this is done with keeping the love for the source material.

      I agree with you. I myself was guilty of that at first. The first time I watched it, I didn't like it. But I've learned over the years to give things a 2nd chance (I HATED Pulp Fuction the 1st time I saw it, but fell in love with it the 2nd time). So with that in mind, I watched this show again and was able to appreciate it much more. I still don't LOVE the show, but I can say now that I like the show, despite its flaws, namely the acting, which I hope will improve in the upcoming seasons.

    Some are 'mad' about the changes that happened with Roku's character, Aang's 'flying' to name a few, but little did they know that this episode and the first one were actually co-written by the OG creators Bryan and Mike. Yes, they were involved with the live-action, contrary to reports that they have no involvement with the series. They were credited as co-writers of episodes 1 & 6 along w/ showrunner Albert Kim.

      And then walked out. lmao, you're a fool if you think original writers and producers, etc. ever get a proper say in a project. When something is rebooted, they hardly ever listen to the original material

    Dissappointed that they mashed together two of my favourite episodes from the animation. I was so waiting for the hunt and sucking of the frogs, lol. But seriously, I think they are too busy with these episodes in some extend. Maybe they had not thought about doing more seasons than this one originaly. The choises of showing more back stories is gold though, very good script work.

      Many folks have pointed out that they are incorporating things from the comics, many of which were co-authored by the original creators. I'm not saying that should sway your opinion, but it does explain some of the changes that were made and that not all of them are random changes.
