    Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

    Glad you made this one. IMO, mowers that wide should have caster front wheels and the ability to lock at least one of them out in the straight ahead position for doing hills and ditch banks. That thing sure sounds great cutting. I'd like to see a 305 (ish) CC engine option for them as well.

    • @wilfromkc

      I think that way about my Toro Timemaster. But I feel like i would have problems with casters with I'm mowing tall thick grass uphill, but that's my thinking.

      Good thoughts guys. I think that casters would be a great idea for this mower. I have to compare it to my Cub Cadet 33. That's a heavy mower. It has casters so it's easy to steer. Same with my Cub Cadet 21. Also has casters. Not a heavy mower but the casters make it a dream to mow with. This DR is 117 lbs I think. Noticeable when you have to raise it up to turn. Casters would be nice.

    Warning! This mower has problems. I have had mine for almost two years, the blade drive belt had to be replaced at 6 hrs, Napa has a extreme duty belt for $30 that lasted 8hrs I have found that turning the mower off when it is engaged helps I get 15 to 20 hrs out of a belt now. The lever to adjust the deck height broke off the second time I used it. The front wheels are bolted in from the bottom and have been coming out even though I use loctite . The freaking gas tank is tiny, could have been twice the size. 40 to 45 minutes run time max.

      The pulley control arm is installed in the wrong position. (You can see this in the video.) This seems to be a consistent problem with this machine. DR makes this unit in two sizes. If you look at the left side of the mower deck, there are two holes; one marked with 26 and the other one marked 30. The control arm needs to be installed in the one marked 30 (for the 30" mower).

    • @ewaddy9856

      Verified with DR the control arm bolt is in the correct hole (which is 26). My SP30 is an awesome mower and has no issues. Unless some people are abusing these mowers..they are excellent machines.

    Holding the spring flap open with a rubber strap? Where's the (flimsy) side discharge deflector? Just kiddin'. After 1+ years of heavy use my few quibbles with the DR30 are with the comically small gas tank (good for only 1/2 an acre in one fuel-up), not shutoff petcock, the aforementioned cheap side deflector assembly which breaks off easily (they sent me a free warranty replacement after mine broke last year), today the height adjustment handle broke in half at a weak point (I am contacting them today for a warranty replacement part), the tendency for wet grass (the only kind in my swampy Mid-Atlantic region) to cake on the underside of the deck in all the crevices, and noise like a jet plane taking off. The pluses are the ample power, variable speed rear drive, aluminum deck, blade brake feature (with engine still running). The bagging action is really good- detaching and re-attaching the bag is quick and it really stuffs the grass in there, and with no clogging. The mulching action is superior. The 2 year warranty on the mower and the lifetime warranty on the deck is tops; they stand behind the product. In all I am very satisfied with this mower. I installed a fuel filter and petcock, and also an auxiliary gas tank with petcock on it, which I had saved off a 1980 2-stroke Lawn Boy Commercial. So the stock tank is now usually shut off, and serves as simply a reserve tank. Keep a full complement of spare belts handy. So fare only one broke, the main drive belt. One can run this thing with the belt cover off, gives it a cool steampunk look. An under-deck grass scrape-out is best achieved by locking the push handle in the upright position and tiling the whole mower 90 degrees back so the front of the mower is pointing skyward. Cost-wise, This unit goes on sale regularly and the used units go on sale for one hundred bucks cheaper than that, so wait for a sale if you're going to get one, be it new or refurbished. When I bought my "newsed" one and shortly thereafter new ones went on sale for the same price I paid, DR was willing to credit my card an extra hundred bucks. The refurbished model I received was super-clean and arrived drained of oil and a new quart bottle supplied, so it was like having a nearly-new machine but with the first oil change already performed. So I don't regret going for a refurbished unit.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  2 года назад +2

      Great comment! I think I will also put in a fuel filter and a cutoff. I actually really like the jet noise it makes! I strapped the mulching door open so that the grass could fly freely with no obstruction. This allows it to lay down smoothly on the yard too. Indeed, the gas tank is too small. It can be dealt with though. Very happy with it.

    • @paulh6591
      @paulh6591 2 года назад

      @@Something2LookAt The reason I wanted a cutoff is because I tilt the chassis to scrape out the underside of the unit with a plastic putty knife when I'm done mowing, and carb floats don't tend to operate properly to shut off the flow of gas when they're not reasonably plumb. It's also a "peace of mind" thing when the unit is in storage, that gas isn't leaking past a dirty float pin and flooding the engine and crankcase. I think all mowers should have a cutoff. Yes, I'm happy with this mower!

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  2 года назад +1

      @@paulh6591 Indeed. They should all have fuel cut off valves. For us commercial guys it's because of bouncing around on the trailer while in transport. As it's bouncing that pin is letting gas through and so on. The bigger engines with a battery have a solenoid on the carb. Fuel valve opens with the solenoid when you turn the key.

      Yes, I still have it. And it still runs great! It's one of my favorites. I'll have to make another video with it this year. I've had no problems, and still amazed at the blade speed. I've never encountered a blade speed that fast. What is it now, about $1500? Yea, it's worth it. It is heavy. About 125 lbs I think and very awkward to lift into the truck bed, if that's what you're wondering about. It's just hard to find places to hold on to it.
