I have this car for 3 months now in israel, much better in any aspect than my kia niro hybrid i had. Dont judge the car by its country but its abilities. Very happy with it after 6000km.
Thanks Shlomi, I've had an e-Niro for 4 years now which I have documented in my channel Kia e-Niro Diaries Encore. I test drove the Niro hybrid too in 2018 but the e-Niro is so much better, though €10,000 higher price. In 4 years I have saved at least €6,000 on fuel and servicing, enjoying a better car in the process. The BYD looks great, better tech than the Niro with an LFP battery that will effectively last forever. The problem is pricing and I am surprised BYD have not been more aggressive with their pricing here in Europe. Enjoy your car and BYD!
I have one of these in Australia and just did a 3000km road trip. It's a fantastic car. So comfortable and drives so well in a variety of conditions. I was getting about 350km range on the open road with cruise control at 115km/h - that's in standard mode (not Eco), and standard braking, and that was on some hot days at 35c. City driving we get around 450km range! Yes the interior is confronting at first... but we will never go back. It's an exciting and fun car to drive.

I am from Australia and had an atto 3 for 6 months. om the Australian version there is a regen control near the gearstick. On the range you will get about 300Km at 110 Km per hour with all the driver assist functions and the A/C running. At lower speeds you should easily achieve 400 Km with moderate driving.
The interior is aimed at young people, or people who want something a bit different to the greys and blacks we have been forced to buy for the last 30 years. Old people who who don’t like it, or find it too “out there” won’t be buying new cars for much longer, young people will be. Good on BYD for putting this interior out in the market. They are aiming this at first car buyers and young people wanting to get into BEV’s. At least they have added some useful switchgear so the driver does not have to take their eyes off the road to dig into the touchscreen. Sort of best of both worlds. We are both over 60, and it was the interior that really made us order this vehicle. The really comprehensive standard safety pack is a massive bonus. Our solar system has been upgraded to ensure all weekly work travel will be completely free. Is it perfect, no, but the value of what you get for your money is right up there. By the way, the brake re gen controls are both down on the console and within the centre screen.
Great posting Patrick and greetings from a couple of 60 something Brits living in France. We've had a Kia e-Niro here for 4 years now. I installed solar on our 200 year old stone barn a few months after getting the car in March 2019 then added a few more panels last year which covered all our 19,000 km of driving. What can be better than driving on sunlight!?
@Kia e-Niro Diaries Encore that’s fantastic, who doesn’t love free fuel 😍. Glad to hear your BEV journey is going well. I’m 60 something as well, and took delivery of our Atto 3 today. A refreshing car, and yes, it was the interior that attracted us most. We have ramped up our solar over the last couple of years to make the most of the Australian sun. This will work great with the Atto for sure 😊
You are right, in the 1970,s people used to refer to Japanese products as jap crap, but look at how their products improved to compete with European brands.
BMW Audi Merc different league? Lol I actually own a brand new Audi Q3 S Line (which creaks like a cheap truck) and switching to BYD Atto 3 soon. Really this lady is still living in the 90s.
As far as I know, BYD is not only the second largest manufacturer of pure EV in the world next to Tesla, it is also the second largest EV battery manufacturer in the world, only next to CATL
On June 2022,BYD officially took top spot from Tesla becoming the world's largest EV manufacturer selling 1.62 million cars between January and November 2022 compared to Tesla’s 1.37 for all of 2022.
Personally, I think the newer BYD Seagull is a better looking model and one of the first EV using Sodium ION battery. The advantages of blade battery are u can charge to 100% every time and longer life than Tesla, so it allows u to max out the mileage. Atto3 has a different name Seal in China, a part of their ocean series which reflects in the design detail like fish scale c pillar and water wave shape dash board. BYD has been making EV for awhile, their E6 is like E London Taxi, build specifically for Taxi is on the road for many years with proven platform and impressive battery life. So even the brand name is new to Europe, it stands on its own against the German models well. Fun fact, Atto means a micro amount of time.
Don't be so boring, it is an awesome interior. This is what is missing from the EU cars. An interesting interior. Looks like a great place to be. Think about it, where do you spend most of your time when driving? In the car thus the interior should shine and this one hits top marks. Awesome!😊
Thanks for the best review yet of this interesting car. Given that LFP batteries are allegedly 30% cheaper than the NMC type used by their competitors, that BYD build so much in-house and in huge quantities I am surprised that the pricing is not more aggressive. I've owned a Kia e-Niro since March 2019 and here in France where I live the Atto 3 is coming in within €2K or less of the newish Niro EV which itself is just too expensive being in the €44K to €48K range. If this car was pitched €5K or so below the e-Niro and local hero Renault Megane e-tech then it would be a true disrupter. The real problem for EV adoption continues to be the price premiums you have to pay to ditch fossil fuels and go electric. If you look at the prices of similar sized ICE powered cars here (Nissan Qashqai, VW T-Roc, Peugeot 3008) you are looking in the range €34K to €38K. Now that EVs are being produced in volume and battery prices are coming down why is there still this huge difference in price?
Vicky the G.O.A.T.!! In regards of the car, I think pricing would define if this is a great car or not. Also, I hope Vicky has the chance to review the BYD Tang.
I think they came in around £37 -39K in the UK which was way too expensive. In Australia before the price rise it was $49,700 for the LR (60kWh battery) which is only about £26,000 and since then they've gone up to about $AUD53,500 on the road or about anothe £2000 so I think they have plenty of room to move down in the UK. Very good car for the price I paid in Australia.
I'm a 54 year old man and I love the design of the inside. Why should a car be boring, it has great spec, large sunroof, fantastic tech and the nighttime colour features. Its not bland and boring. Its modern, fun and extremely good value. Lets have more of the same!
I think most are interested on the big display rather than some details/design on the interior. The interior certainly doesn't bother me but it would be nice to customise some of the interior colours, i.e changing the red lines to something else to make it less in your face.
Cobalt free unlike Petrol vehicles. The interior isn't boring like European interiors, has far more interesting aspects to it obviously you dislike this car from everything you've said. I'm 6'4" and find FAR more headroom in this than in many others including the Ioniq 5/EV6/Cupra Born(ID.3)/MG4.

They are a premium brand in other markets as well as a budget brand this IS a budget car it just costs the usual £8K to £10K more in the UK than the rest of the world and £16K more than in China. British government tariffs and taxes, shipping and the UK middle man distributor profit.
The conclusion that can be drawn just by looking at the title is: this is not the best electric car in China, and there are so many electric car brands in China. Even BYD has better products than atto3, depending on how much you want to pay.
Seems like a very competitive vehicle. Fairly characterless and inoffensive on the outside. The inside would take a bit of getting used to. Also, not sure I'd be happy with 'BUILD YOUR DREAMS' plastered over the back. Seems a little bit crass. I'd definitely get that removed.

They are 36k in the UK at the moment. Still way too expensive! 260 mile range, in real world around 200 and front wheel drive... Yeah, they are really going to take over the market.
My guess is they will probably put out a different interior for the western market for testing in the future, if its sucessful they might even open plants in Europe to lower prices
I read last week that they are planning a plant in Europe. The UK was not considered now because of Brexit but France we I live is on the shortlist...though I suspect they will go for Spain or Eastern Europe.

Yes, it's right hand drive, but it is in several markets around the world and there's no premium for it elsewhere, so it isn't that. Well, they have to transport it half way around the world! Errr.. @@eyeofthetiger6002 Yes. Which is £39k. The cheapest is £36.5k here in the UK. I sant see it selling in the UK at those prices with no brand history and only a 4 year warranty and no dealerships.
@@geoffhemingway3926 oh,in that case it's definitely closer to a Tesla than a Kia! 😂 But I wouldn't be so sure that it wouldn't sell well in the UK at that price compared to the other legacy manufacturers because Chinese brands seem to have a habit of taking off globally seemingly from nowhere, just how many Brits have heard of TikTok or DJI drones a few years ago? In any case if I were to buy a pure EV vehicle I would probably prefer to buy Chinese as Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD are probably way ahead of any legacy auto manufacturers like VW, Mercedes, Ford etc since they manufacture everything in-house which is hardly surprising since BYD actually started life as a battery manufacturer so their EV expertise is probably second to none compared to all the other legacy manufacturers bar Tesla since the bulk of their sales are still rooted in traditional fossil fuelled vehicles.
@@eyeofthetiger6002 Hi, don't get me wrong - I want them to succeed and I agree that vertical integration has got to be the way to go. @@geoffhemingway3926 which is why I would rather buy a hybrid for now and wait till the fully EV market matures a bit and for prices to drop significantly which will happen inevitably and you can be sure it will come from BYD and not Tesla!

With all our protectionism going on it will be a decade before we see affordable EVs in the USA. So, while they talk about EVs here, and a lot of Teslas are sold, it is unlikely I will ever iwn one before I die. Sad thought that.
Still waiting for the Atto 3 to appear in Portugal...not long I hope. Having lived in the Far East, the styling HAS been toned down relative to the market there. Don't forget that cars from Japan, Korea and now China all have non-European styling, and are very popular in Europe and North America. If you want bland, just get an Audi.

@@eyeofthetiger6002 Hi, don't get me wrong - I want them to succeed and I agree that vertical integration has got to be the way to go. I just think a lot of people thinking of buying one privately will be very nervous, especially as future resale values are a complete unknown. But I really would like to see them stick it to the legacy manufactures, VAG in particular! 😁👍
@@geoffhemingway3926 which is why I would rather buy a hybrid for now and wait till the fully EV market matures a bit and for prices to drop significantly which will happen inevitably and you can be sure it will come from BYD and not Tesla!
Lithium IRON Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery
LFP Blade Battery Lithium Ferro Phosphate.
lol we bought the car coz of the interior. wicked ... rather than boring european interior.
Humm. It's certainly not the best Chinese ev.. Shanghai auto show showed us just that.. there are many awesome Chinese EVs..
3:25, So eight year warranty for the battery, but only a one year warranty for the car? Did I understand that correctly? Not that I'd be interested in a Chinese owned brand anyway, but no chance I'd buy a brand new car with a one year warranty.
4 year unlimited mileage am sure she said?
You didn't understand it correctly. Watch again. Pay close attention.
@@Silver-st2zq Thank you. I initially thought she said a 'full' year warranty, not four! 😆
With all our protectionism going on it will be a decade before we see affordable EVs in the USA. So, while they talk about EVs here, and a lot of Teslas are sold, it is unlikely I will ever iwn one before I die. Sad thought that.
Wait for price drop.... rip britain.
Did i just hear 1 year warranty on the car? I thought most major manufactures were offering 5-7 year warranties now?
7 years warranty
Has anyone addressed the issues that BYD is having with their cars spontaneously catching on fire.
@@xarifa777 >> Samsung handphones does catch do catch fire too in the past.
Why they keep catching on fire though?
Compared with MG 4
Oh look another SUV... which is electric 💤💤
surprise surprise
The equivalent of a 4 Gallon fuel tank hahaha No Thanks 👎
Best MIC car in UK, maybe. Definitely not China's best EV.
She talk about uk dealership and website etc but where are they search the Internet and there are no UK dealers no website so what's going on . (At the time of writing)
You look up on companies and there is nothing. We know Arnold Clarke for Scotland pendragon group and looker have shown interest but there just nothing

@@robertmorris2899 also now Manchester as well
We pay more money due to eu design team.😂
When you commented on styling, I definitely felt that you had a spy balloon floating up above. It looks like an old Mitsubishi / Seat model.
LOL they won't need spy balloons anymore the cars will do the job, what will happen to parts supplies if tensions rise.
Brilliant exterior. Shame they stuffed up the interior by turning it into a human anatomy lesson.

Nope. Fourth. Sorry for your loss.
It has takeaway looks!🤭

Yes lets buy Chinese. What on earth could go wrong?
Don’t forget that your clothes and technology your using are all made in China!🧐
Like your phone, TV and just about every other electronic device you own?
@@Nickbaldeagle02 Yep
China is now the world's leading Auto manufacturing nation. They achieved that in 10 years.
And yet here we are commenting with “Made in China” devices.
Buy one only if you are completely fireproof!
She sounds british, but why is she driving on the wrong side of the road?
That thing is a ticking time BOMB
Not the best looking jam jar
A very high percentage of chinesium. 🤮
We here in the west should boycot them all. Look what’s happening in the world. It’s in our best interest not to buy them. Ik don’t care if there good or cheap. I will not buy it.
No No No
Build your dreams? Probably more like "burn your dreams", when the battery blows up.
No thanks
40k for an unknown Chinese car....good luck with that
It's not unknown, It's been producing cars since 2008 and is the biggest seller of ev cars after tesla mostly in asian countries
@@Krahamus maybe so, but it's unknown here in the UK.
It's got a daft name and China are cozying up with Russia.
Don't know how many units they are hoping to sell but I don't think it'll shift many
Unknown to folks who have been living under a rock.
@@forestdad I doubt they will come to west market anyways, since mostly they dominate in Asia, same as Tesla dominate in West.

BYD intends to go truly global. It's the best selling NEV in Israel. They will launch cheaper dolphin in UK, a low slung performance sedan Seal, then tiny Seagull micro car. BYD already has 5000 orders from octopus UK and another 100,000 orders from SixT Germany.
The interior looks vile more so the dash...screen is ok but the rest is horridly vile and those doors inside 😂
What a styling rip off of mazda cx3/5. Lots of byd batt fires in China-your money supports China.
