Heat is fine on lead surfaces providing you do not use a naked flame and wear a respirator and gloves. Zinc phosphate is a good primer for metal generally, but not alloys.
@@3foria420 Correct, partly. It appears to be heavily coated and will almost certainly contain lead in old coatings. I quoted alloy in general terms, not specific.
nice work, I'm planning on restoring the old cast iron sewage pipe next week, hopefully, I won't make any mistakes otherwise I will be in deep sh*t :D do you have any recommendations on what to be careful about? And can I use one of those de-rusting acids or is that dangerous?
Never ever, ever use heat on cast iron, it can cause the iron to crack and all the heat does is transfer along the length of the pipe. Remove with paint remover and back in my day it was one coat of calcium plumbate as a primer, one undercoat and two of gloss paint. Here to help ;-)
@@wallingtonfilming Different type of cast, different qualities. Back yonks ago when I was on the brush, it was a sin to use heat on metalwork for paint removal.
Nice job respect to you for not just replacing with black plastic. Good on trend colour as well.
Looks fantastic! Definitely worth the effort. Thanks for posting.
Mark I had to replace my hopper and down right completely gone. Save the hopper as a planter. Good job good vid mate as always.
What about the lead paint? How about applying a zinc phosphate primer to inhibit future rust?

10/10 for the resto but I fear that 2pack will absorbed moisture from the holes and blister, I would have pluged them first with Permatex.
One of your Best Mate, loved the Music at the end.

The cast iron looks so much better than uPVC, maybe replace the black gutter or paint it so it matches.
What paints did you use?
Interesting one, thanks for sharing!
