You can get thin red rubber sheet in the plumbing department at Lowes or Home Depot. I think I got a 6inch square for about 2 dollars. Sometimes they have the sheet in black. To prep the stamp, you can use sandpaper or rub with a pencil eraser to help it grab paint a little better.
Its funny Diana because that's what I first got but here in Canada they don't sell it the way it's sold in Home Depot or Lowes in the US. I searched and searched and bought something similar but it was textured. It was also much tougher. this rubber was softer but yes both worked. and I wish it was 2$ mine package with 4 of them was 15 and they were not all rubber.
@@KerenTamir Hmm. Surely in Canada you require cheap rubber gaskets! How dare the crafting gods deprive you of such resources? :) Maybe it means reaching out to a local makerspace to see if you can use their laser cutter if you have more intricate rubber stamp making needs? :) I love the experimentation and collaboration mentality at makerspaces. I can't wait until it's safe to go do collaborative projects again.
yes you would think but I searched and searched because it was a material I saw someone used and that worked. well I was glad I found another because the one I used was 1/8th of an inch so even thicker that the rubber gasket and it cut it so I was happy about that
@@KerenTamir I just checked mine, I have 2 different thicknesses, 1/8 inch and the other is much thinner, a little over 1mm. Maybe it will carve easily with the lino tools? Otherwise, I might try my dremel. I wonder how a stamp made out of layered cardstock coated in rubber cement would print? Or there is a spray can called plastidip, that would make a tough rubberish coating. Stuff to try for when there isn't a blizzard outside. :)
yes they come in 1/8th and 1/16th which is thinner. My 1/8th was smooth but tougher than the stamp rubber I found. the 1/16th which is what you have smooth in the US, came textured for me and it cut beautiful but didn't give me a smooth impression. its great for MM though
I love cutting stencils using my Silhouette when I want a specific shape for my art. Using coloured plastic wallet plastic it can hold great details for pennies each.
There was one Christmas I made a embossed table runner out of velvet for my Mum. I had seen it done with rubber stamps but didn't have the one I wanted so I make what I wanted out of fum foam and foam core board...it worked GREAT...I will have to remember that as I move forward with my art journey...Thanks for the idea...Love and Hugs from Nova Scotia on a Nor'easter Saturday it is a bad one today...great day for a binge day and maybe a little painting
Thanks for taking us through your problem solving process. It is more helpful (and human) than just giving the solution. I had a couple of questions. How did you store the bird stamp afterwards? And were the vinyl masks reusable?
so glad to hear Carla thank you! you can store your bird stamp in a ziplock or a piece of clear packaging or any type of envelope (clear is better so you can see it). The vinyl masks can be reusable as I could have put them back on the plastic sheet. I didn't think of it at the time. LOL and I started saving them on my desk and they got ruined. but you can also cut stencil material to use as a mask. I liked the vinyl because it has a sticky side. I also used the permanent one because thats all I had but there's a removable one.
Hi Keren. Thanks for sharing this info. I’m keen to try this in my silhouette. I love watching all your videos. They’re very informative. Cheers from Keren C in Queensland, Australia.
yes that would be great, you can cut on silhouette but make sure you try the deep blade if they have or you might need to cut several times.thank you so much!
Love love love! You are so creative! I got a Cricket a year ago and I’m still so scared to use it. I love the way you think and teach. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is fantastic. Yet one more thing to try when I get my machine up and going. Life got in the way since November and it keeps getting pushed on the back burner, as they say. Fingers crossed hoping this month will leave me some time.
oh yes you have a great machine! you will love using it... sorry to hear life got in the way but you're so strong and I feel your creativity will shine through! thank you so much my friend!
How clever. Will have to check out that rubber sheet and possibly do some of my own. I got a cricut to cut material for my embroidery and quilting. Have done all but material. Lol got into cardmaking, which I said I would never do. Lol Thanks Karen for all your ideas. Love how there's no right or wrong and it all comes out great. Journaling is something I kinda wanted to try, but didn't know how to start. Thanks again. Just remembered, my boy bought me a blazer engraving machine for Christmas last year. 😥,and I haven't gotten it set up cause don't want to do it on the house. Have to try to find a spot in garage. ( My husband's area).🤔. Thanks again.
Always so creative, Keren. Thank you for sharing these techniques. I don't own an electronic cutting machine, but perhaps in the future when I find space for it!! I appreciate your time in preparing your upbeat and helpful videos. :)
Wow Keren! What a great find, the rubber I mean. So cool that you try out all the kind of products. And... Hello..... You make amazing pieces of art with it. So cool!!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Questions: 1) Rubber sheets. Thickness? Type? Where to buy? 2) Cricut Setting for cutting intricate designs on these Rubber sheets? ( don't want to waste materials) 3) Craft Foam: Cricut Setting you used for larger designs Thank you! Keep those wonderful creative videos coming! You are quite talented!!
Hi there, I listed a set of rubber sheets from amazon. I also found them at the hardware store in the plumbing section. It was 2 years ago so I can't recall the thickness but I would say its about 3-4mm. In terms of settings I honestly do not remember. I know I used my deepest blade on the hardest setting. It was a bit on trial and error, you can cut a small design first to try out. The foam craft sheets are super cheap from the dollar store so you can definitely play with the setting for those. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but it was so long ago and I can't remember sometimes what I did last week lol.
@@KerenTamir Do you recommend any type of ink for stamping? I want to use these stampers for removing alcohol ink from cards I'm attempting to make for Holiday Season and want to leave a design like a poinsetta, pine boughs, snow flakes, etc. Something classic & not cartoonish. So I'm NEW at using alcohol inks, but in love with the effects it creates.
that sounds great! there's a special ink just for removing alcohol ink this is the product: shrsl.com/4qzno you can also get it on Amazon: amzn.to/3YOVAzo
Thanks Karen, I don’t have a cricut machine can’t decide whether to get one as design space limits 20 designs a month now I understand. I love all of your designs you do for Joggles. Your work is great as always and I always look forward to your videos.
I know circuit was thinking about limiting designs but alot of people had a fit. I hope they didn't do that to new cricut designers, that would be rotten. But they are alot of fun and can do so much. If they are limiting, I had thought about it before I can my cricut maker, look into a scan n cut. Hope your not limited and can joy in on the fun.. have great day.
Elizabeth I hadn't heart about the 20 design limit. I know that for 9.99$ you get almost all the designs (might be all but I can't recall) on design space. Plus you can upload your own from other sources. Thank you so much and so glad you love my designs from joggles.
