  • Felipe first sat with us on EP-298 and we wanted him to come back to share more of his story.
Felipe Peters spent over 11 years in the U.S. Army's elite 75th Ranger Regiment at both 2nd Battalion and with the Advanced Force Reconnaissance Team, aka Regimental Reconnaissance Detachment (RRD) or today as the Regimental Reconnaissance Company (RRC). In this episode, Felipe joins Robert and Jason as we touch on a number of topics.

I've heard whispers and rumors of that op and RRCs involvement. Awesome to hear it straight from the horses mouth.

I remember a time when no one really wanted to go to RRD, good that it finally came around to RRC. Hopefully peacetime won't eff it up.

Hey friend you need to add timestamps to your videos and also start coming out with clips, both will boost you on the RUclips algorithm

@@Mentors4mil friend you put a lot of effort into your content, you just gotta do these extra steps like this and the algorithm will pick your channel up
Checkout how Combat Story does the timestamps really well. And how Sean Ryan show and now team house do clips. Those two things alone will help you alot :D

In fall of 1986, as a member of 1st Recon Bn, we went to Fort Lewis and worked with the Rangers. It was the first time we got to use sat comma. We were totally impressed in the gear.

Does everyone in RRC attend MFF and other special school like SF combat dive school, pathfinder etc. Great podcast 👍🏼

@@Mentors4mil So it IS a part of the pipeline now? When did that happen? In my day you had to put a packet in and be placed on a waiting list, which could take up to and well over a year to get that slot. I have seen SF vets of ten plus years be told to leave on the first day because they were late (92 seconds late to be exact). It's pretty cool though I'll give the Army that. RLTW! Carpe Noctem .

All RRC does MFF. RRC are the acknowledged sky gods of JSOC. Each of their guys puts in an insane number of freefall jumps and as a unit, there is a huge experience gap between them and every other SMU. An RRC team must be this way because they are jumping in with as smaller teams with fewer guys with more specialized equipment for longer duration missions than other SMUs and can't do a single tethered bundle on a the best/senior/most experienced jumper with less experienced or skilled guys jumping lighter or even slick.
RRC made the decision that retaining combat dive capability would end up being a misallocation of resources. For the amount of time and money that is drawn into preparing men to attend SFCQDC, then at the course, plus recycles, then would be spent maintaining capacity, which is the capability plus the training facilities, hours and equipment to have the ability to perform a defined mission, the likelihood of a mission actually requiring the RRC specifically to have that capacity in the future was near zero.
CQDC is a solid two months inclusive of pre-dive, just for a solid A-game swimmer of doing nothing but, with the lion's share of that individual's PT consumed by swimming in the six months leading up to dive school. That's 1/6th of a year, not including recycles, travel and admin time, just for skills acquisition on the individual level. Then assume 3-4 weeks every year just to maintain dive quals. Plus all the Dive Medical Technician shit that your medic now has to go through, which is another weeks of training and quals he has to maintain. All for a capability that the team will likely NEVER use.
That every other SOF element seems to go out of their way to maintain capability for. DEVGRU's AFO guys are all SEALs, CAG has a dive section in every troop, who knows what Orange does, but they definitely have dive guys (or women, for all we know); outside of JSOC there's vanilla SEALs, all a couple SR focused dive qual'd SF ODAs in every group, those new AFSOC SWOT guys who think they can do SR; then at the bottom of the barrel, we have the not even SOF but somehow get mentioned anyway just because they MFF and dive Force Recon guys.
So yes, every RRC Ranger MFF jumps. Like mothefucker. No, RRC Rangers do not dive. Why would they? You got SEALs and wannabe SEALs for that shit.
