FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, the Option 40 pipeline (at least for 11X) does RASP BEFORE Airborne school now. Regiment got sick of people quitting on day 1 of RASP because all they wanted to do was airborne. EDIT: For further explanation, if you fail out of RASP now, you will NOT have a guaranteed shot for Airborne school (you would have to ask for airborne once you get sent to a random leg unit, but gfl with that, getting an airborne slot while serving in a non-airborne unit is difficult). If all you want to do is Airborne, then what you should be looking for is an Option 4 contract, that contract guarantees a shot for Airborne school after completion of Basic/AIT.

Honestly from my experience, that tan beret meant nothing. When you arrive at regiment your life will be hell. The men in regiment will do absolutely everything to try and make life hard for you until you go to school. Without that tab in regiment you will have no respect and be treated like garbage, doesn’t matter if you are e-1 or e-4. The tab is what gets you the respect so I suggest going to school as soon as you can.
Zolydick K well first of all PT,PT and more PT. You typically will do one or more 5 mile runs a week along with some good CrossFit style workouts. The guys at battalion are PT monsters (i myself am not amazing at PT compared to others but I am one of the fastest Rucker’s you will ever meet.) It is a very high tempo. We spend a lot of our time at the range or in the field. A lot of the times you will sleep in the field rather then go home late and arrive early like at a lot of normal big army units. But you also have some details but nothing like pulling weeds or picking up garbage like you would be in normal infantry. All and all expect to be doing lots of hard training, deployments will seem amazing because rather then training you will be actually doing it. When it’s time for you to deploy you and the rangers around you will be able to have a person flexed cuffed on the ground before he wakes up.
Zechidvjchi no just get an option 40 in your contract and worry about finishing RASP first. School is a different type of suck that you can embrace after spending some time in the regiment. They will send you to school within the first year typically. I was just letting people know that you will not be respected until you have that tab.
Thank you so much for this video. Praying for these young men. This road is long and hard. The best way to prepare for RASP is to join as an 11x with a Ranger contract. You're already used to a high speed, high stress environment and haven't been corrupted by the "real Army" yet. Just remember, Airborne won't last forever (it kinda sucks, but totally worth it) and you'll soon be off to see your new RASP daddies
@Matt Ward ... At any point during the interview did he talk about what part of the training the 5 mile run comes in? I.e., is it the same day as the APFT, different day, how many times is it necessary over the course of RASP?
@The Spook Who Sat By The Door It's a timed part of the graded criteria in RASP I believe. I am asking at what point they are graded on their 5-mile time. At some point they have to do a record, 5-mile time in less than 40 minute, I am wondering WHEN and how that comes in.
@The Spook Who Sat By The Door Yea, he said PT test week 6, and then week 7 for failures. But what I'm trying to find out HOW they administer the timed, graded 5-mile run. Do they do it the same day as APFT? Is it right after, do they do it next day, do they do it on a different day, etc...
Literally at pre rasp right now and there is 492 people here and all we do is stand on the rocks all days and “study” and usually they’ll release you after lunch to go to the gym but now there’s so many people they can’t and they don’t even smoke you. Also they usually release you at 15:00 -16:00 this video is not very accurate
Micaiah white RASP is a selection process to go into the ranger battalions, RANGER school is a combat leadership course that is 61 days long, It focuses on small unit tactics. It’s open to all the branches. Rangers lead the way.
In other words also RASP is for a soldier to be ranger qualified and you wear the ranger tab once you graduate . Ranger School is for a soldier to be a Ranger and you wear a scroll instead of the yellow & black tab once you graduate and get attached to a ranger battalion or unit. And yeah, what he said lol ^
I wish I coulda gone through Rasp, I went ol school RIP 99-03, Rasp seems more intense, just hope the Rasp Cadre are as brutal as rips, keep the tradition alive!!
@@lanceaustin7057 - In theory yes. In reality NO. R.I.P. was a 100 mile per hour Smokefest and Brain-Burner for 21 days straight with basically no sleep or food back in my time. (I'm old now). Back then, it wasn't really about teaching you anything. The first week or so was pure physical ass-kicking. The last week or so was "Overload of information after being totally depleted" while continuing said ass-kicking. It was really just a brutal smokefest to see if you might have a chance to keep up with the Batt Boys physically AND mentally for a year or so. IF you could somewhat keep up, then the Regiment could teach you what you needed to know. And once you got to Regiment, IF you could keep up consistently AND learn what you needed to learn, THEN you would eventually go to Ranger School (which is also quite different nowadays). Back then... Ranger School was where 200 pound studs became 140 pound shells of a human in 58 days of mental and physical torture. LOL And there's not a woman on earth who could have ever come close to passing it.
But just to be clear, while the "process" of becoming a Ranger has changed a lot over the years -- I have no doubt that the "end result" has only improved. After all... There's 9 ways to skin a cat. But you still end up with 2 or 3 thousand intensely capable killing machines called RANGERS. And they will ALWAYS --- lead the way.
So my brother wants to join the army but I don’t want him to because I’m scared for him .. do you think that the training will like help him out? Should I be scared ? And also VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: will we be able to talk everyday?

Since getting out of the Army in 1999-2013 I've realized there's a lot of SF dudes on RUclips. Seriously, everyone is SF :-) thanks for your service guys.....from a former king of battle. 1/321
Most informative video about RASP.
I thought you signed a non disclosure agreement. Everyone signs it at pre RASP. Basically agreeing that you won’t talk about the course or anything SOF related. But I’m spent over 5 years in RGT
Been waiting for this !
Good video. Good luck to anyone going to RASP, getting into Regiment is easy, staying is hard😈 Comment on this if you’re going to 2/75😽
Man thanks for alot for this, I ship out January 14 with an 11x opt40
Eric Loya how’d it go. I’m curious
How did it go?
I start Rasp in January! I’m in Pre-Rasp right now!
Christian Douglas how is it brother?????
ljjaa ye he should be done now
How did Rasp go????
Did you make it or nah?
Thanks for all the videos Matt . My son's turning green ceremony is this Friday so he's currently in the Forge. He just passed his pt for Ranger assessment.
I can't say enough about my days in The 2D(HOOAH)BN '77-'79. My foot problems finally caught up to me, made it to my 25 th year and a retired Teamster today at 60! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!
Awesome video LT very informative!! You gotta bring him back!!
I'd like to do a video on deployment with him and my brother
@@MattWard89 YES PLEASE DO!! and quick question, can you attempt RASP multiple times or do you get disqualified after "X" number of fails?
The best way to prepare for RASP is to join as an 11x with a Ranger contract. You're already used to a high speed, high stress environment and haven't been corrupted by the "real Army" yet. Just remember, Airborne won't last forever (it kinda sucks, but totally worth it) and you'll soon be off to see your new RASP daddies
You're totally right bro, being in the real army slow pace sometimes hurry up and wait op tempo is just so corrupting. (not sarcasm)
It has started in Regiment. Women are there, support, not in the line companies.
Is it right after, do they do it next day, do they do it on a different day, etc...
forrestang it’s the same day. You do all PT events at once besides the 12 mile ruck. Pushups, sit-ups, 5 mile, and pull ups.
@@mastermike95 thanks... so I guess they replace the 2 mile with a 5 mile... I thought for some reason it was its own separate event.
forrestang No 2 mile run in RASP, but you will still do the regular Army PT test (ie 2 mile run) when you get to Batt.
Literally at pre rasp right now and there is 492 people here and all we do is stand on the rocks all days and “study” and usually they’ll release you after lunch to go to the gym but now there’s so many people they can’t and they don’t even smoke you. Also they usually release you at 15:00 -16:00 this video is not very accurate
dude, if you got time, hmu on snapchat cause i wanna pick your brain a little. thx

Devin Pruett yo text me bruv 954-589-3640
Can you talk about RASP 2?
Cory Sayyeau from my understanding, rasp 2 is just the second phase and touching up on phase one.
Michael Spielmann RASP 2 is for officers and NCOs
yeah it’s 21 days for officers and SSG and above
@@SpikeUpRunning it's easy, compared to Rasp 1
Michael Spielmann
Um, no.
After RASP is there different blocks of training that are standard like CQC for 3 weeks or Land Warfare for 5 weeks? Or is it all different?
I'm worried I won't be good enough, but I'm excited to be a Ranger
Have you joined?
What's the real difference between RASP and Ranger School? Are they the same thing?
Micaiah white RASP is a selection process to go into the ranger battalions, RANGER school is a combat leadership course that is 61 days long, It focuses on small unit tactics. It’s open to all the branches.
Rangers lead the way.
In other words also RASP is for a soldier to be ranger qualified and you wear the ranger tab once you graduate . Ranger School is for a soldier to be a Ranger and you wear a scroll instead of the yellow & black tab once you graduate and get attached to a ranger battalion or unit. And yeah, what he said lol ^
@@taliqthomas6919 thats backwards my man
Oops just seen that lmao my mistake guys^
I have a video that I did a while back that is the pre-curser to this where I talk about just that question.
Just got my option 40 contract at 17 thanks for the info!!!
Hagel Frackinburger have you gone through yet bubba?
How'd it go bro?
Did you make it through?
You make it?
My contract has an option 40, recruiter didn’t mention you don’t go to airborne school if you didn’t pass rasp
Sam Rivera then don’t fucking fail.
@@marcr8556 easier said than done
@@marcr8556 join the service at age 18 and got ranger tab at 19.....
I’ll be going soon thanks for the info
just worried if I'm too small and skinny for RASP. I'm like 135 and pretty short, can I make it through?
Can you get 300 on your pft and can you see your ribs ?
My younger brother isn’t tall at all but he’s pretty built and made it through RASP. Some say it’s hard if you’re under 6’ but just don’t quit
I went through RIP in 87 and smoked it !!! 3rd batt boy here
I still remember the good old R.I.P Program
That was awesome and really clear, thankyou
Would love to have someone that’s made it through
Unfortunately my 3 RASP packets got denied in the Army due to being DEVGRU. Rangers are rivals, not enemies. Love what Rangers do.
Why were you trying to go to RASP in Devgru?
Doesn’t make sense lol
Call Of Duty training must've been hard for you.
Damn the stolen valor boss
I was a cag seal marsoc recon cct and had mine denied too
What did he say his MOS was? I re-watched it several times and have either never heard of it before, or can't make it out.
13F aka "Fisters"
Matt Ward didn’t know there was a unit that specified in Fisting the Taliban 😀
He's a Forward Observer for Artillery/CAS
Joint Fire Support Specialist 😎
What books should we study? (Other than the ranger handbook)
Heading to the airport to head to Ft. Jackson tommorow. Thanks for all the videos Matt. You've been a great help.
Hello Turtle good luck
Boot camp or PCS? We PCS to Jackson a few months ago and it’s not that bad.
How’ve you been
@@captainskullz7244 all I can say is, I'm glad I didn't go active 😅
Nice video and thanks for the info
You just made me feel old 😭
You said you go the regiment after rasp, but what if you haven’t done ranger school and don’t have the tab? Do you have to go to ranger school?
I watched the video but in RASP do they kick you out if they want to or do you have to quit like Buds to leave ?
Gustavo Arteaga yeah you have to be selected so you can go all the way through without making it
So is rasp or ranger training where u do mtn, jungle, desert three phases???
I’m a weak swimmer, how intense is the Swim amplitude??
Get better at swimming before you go
Enjoy your youth guys. Best job you’ll ever have. Hooah!
White nava?
Entire structure of the course changed April 2018
I know this is random, but I am talking to my recruiter and I cannot make a decision between two jobs. Any advice?
evvy ace what are the jobs
evvy ace yea don’t join the army, talk to the Air Force
Jonathan Hunt I think he means mos not branch but he should indeed talk to everyone
Go 92Y ;)
Great job! It was very interesting.
On my way to fort Jackson for basic training
Datboy Gabby good luck!
Datboy Gabby wat was ur score for ur asvab
I wish I coulda gone through Rasp, I went ol school RIP 99-03, Rasp seems more intense, just hope the Rasp Cadre are as brutal as rips, keep the tradition alive!!
Rip is the same thing as rasp
LOL
And there's not a woman on earth who could have ever come close to passing it.
Even back then prior to the Internet, we heard about Navy SEAL's so-called "Hell Week"... And we laughed (with jealousy).
No.
FINALLY 🤟🏼
Boots recommendation for RASP?
you have to use standard issue.
can you make a vid about 68w opt 40???
I got a infantry + ranger option 40 contract - leaving December 31 for Benning
geoff riggs hows it going
Coke Dogg wait actually
What is the average PT score you’d probably need to class up ahead of others?
Not the right question to ask. Probably 270+ at minimum. Do your best and prepare the best you can!
Exceeding the standard is the standard. In other words, Max the PT test
300. Shoot for 300. If you think 270 is "good enough" you won't make it.
Shoot for over 300
@@alansmith4482 YESSSSSSS
Hey so can you just explain the exact process to joining the Regiment. Like recruiter, BCT then AIT?
1) Recruiter
2) MEPS
3) Basic/AIT
4) RASP
5) Airborne (although, this is new info to me that airborne is after RASP...)
6) inprocess to your Battalion
It was RIP when I went through. If you have been rolled twice, you should just save yourself the heartbreak and go on to worldwide. Especially if you're not even tabbed yet (it WILL NOT get easier). But the bowls of shit taste better in Battalion. 10-97, Sua Sponte!
Damn were you really RRD? Whole different breed. Would love to hear about that but youtube probably isn't the place. Much respect.

Please have someone on a vid that actually graduated
The pt test they give you is the one you explained in the video or is it the normal army standard pt test ?
I’ve been in the Marine Corps for 4 years ( I’m a POG though), thinking of switching to the Army. How is the RASP experience for prior service?
@Joshua Flashman plt2050 Golf Co?
@Joshua Flashman yep, that's me. I figured that was you because there aren't too many Flashmans out there. Hope you're doing well brother!
Joshua Flashman I hear you can volunteer for RASP at AIT? I’m going in as a 68W
Do Airborne School, Pathfinder School all at Benning. They will know how serious and committed you are about the Army and wanting to become a Ranger or be Ranger qualified. They only have so many slots opened. Good luck and hope it works out for you.
Finally!!!!!
