- Do you have what it takes to become a U.S. Army Ranger? To become a member of the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, candidates must first graduate RASP (Ranger Assessment & Selection Program).
The 8-week course features a variety of physical and mental challenges. The second and fourth week of RASP, the class is sent to "Cole Range"; a remote training area of Fort Benning, GA designed to push candidates to their breaking point both physically and mentally; Candidates forego day and night land navigation, challenging team exercises, sleep deprivation, fitness tests, and more.
There are two separate phases of RASP: Phase 1 primarily consists of day to day, week to week physical and mental toughness training, and includes rigorous "smoke" sessions (blocks of time specifically geared toward using physical training as a tool for corrective training and instruction) that are used to train the group if a particular task, condition, or standard is not met, and also incorporate a necessary environment of the unknown to each soldier. Phase 2 training includes marksmanship and baseline breaching abilities. Ranger history is also the subject of training.
RASP is broken down into two levels of training: RASP 1 for Junior Noncommissioned Officers and Enlisted Soldiers (pay grades E-1 through E-5) and RASP 2 for Senior Noncommissioned Officers, Officers and Warrant Officers. Candidates will train on physical fitness, marksmanship, small unit tactics, medical proficiency and mobility. Training is fast-paced and intense, ensuring 75th Ranger Regiment candidates are prepared to employ their skills in both continued training and worldwide operations upon reaching their assigned Ranger unit. Throughout the course all candidates will be screened to ensure that only the best Soldiers are chosen for service in the Ranger Regiment. Regardless of the course, all candidates must meet the course requirements in order to serve in the Ranger Regiment.
Upon successful completion of RASP, the new Rangers graduate at the Ranger Memorial, or in the event of inclement weather, Freedom Hall where they will don the tan Ranger beret and will have the scroll of the battalion they will be assigned to put on their shoulder.
I miss the time I spent as a Ranger. Was in Fort Lewis from 78 to 82. Ranger class 10-79. Sure wish I had stayed in and retired. Good times. Would like to visit sometime before I check out. Much respect for the men serving.

It would be amazing to meet with you some day. Did you stay in the North Fort barracks?
It would be amazing to meet you. Talk about the old days, did you stay in the north fort barracks?
@@bobk2899 Nope. I was in Charlie company on the south side of the quad. Used to watch the sun come up from my window and had a nice view of Mt. Rainier. We used north fort for RIP and Pre-Ranger training. I’m not familiar with the the battalion layout anymore but back then Charlie Co. shared a barracks with 10th Aviation, their chow hall was part of our barracks but I hardly ever ate there because ours was so much better. We ate like kings. From the pictures I’ve seen it looks like the battalion’s barracks and facilities have improved a whole lot. Is it even in the same place ? How many guys are assigned now, we were always undermanned ? I imagine the barracks are larger. I really would like to get out there to see it. What I get on my social security check don’t leave much for traveling but someday I’ll get out there if I have to hitchhike. Thanks for replying and I’ll try to keep in touch with you. Got an appointment at the VA in Clarksburg WV tomorrow may have time to check your channel while I’m there. Drive On Ranger.
I totally misread your your reply I wasn't understanding that you actually

What was your medical? If u dont mind.
So was I.

Rip in the 80's was so much fun...wish I could do it again.
It was also in the early 90's, I went through in 91.. and you are correct 8tvwas a blast, if you don't mind no sleep. Haha
It's close to 8 am. I shouldn't have watched this? Now I have to go to the gym!
May god have mercy on that gym
I'm looking at securing an OP-40 contract right now. My mom wants me to go Airforce because I wanna fly helos; but I still think this is the way I wanna go. I've wanted this since I was 15; I'm currently 3.
Someone convince me how this is worse than the airforce!
have fun at the 82nd
Helos are ARMY…..If you want to fly Helicopters…Apache ,Little Birds, the new Valors 😮etc
Your mother's only looking out for her son. But it's time to put your big boy panties on and make a decision for yourself. If you want to go option 40 just make sure that is truly what you want.. it made me a man, soldier and I got to do a lot of really fun things. That being said, additionally I saw some horrific things that I wish I cant get out of my head today. I suffer from a TBI and severe PTSD. I get 3 hours of sleep a night. And many nightmares. I lost a family over my issues and dedication to the country. That being said, I wouldn't change a thing. It's a great career and lots of fun. But something that you need to think about seriously. It's not a video game. There are no do overs. We worked with a lot of Air Force PJs and they were just as badass as we were, perhaps that would help ease your mother's mind. She loves you. Good luck my friend.

Man I wish I could go back 20 years and do it all over again.
So do I, brother. So do I
I do and i don't. I think 9/11 was a con to get us into a GWOT, pass the patriot act and a bunch of other things. It was essentially a "catalyst" that normalized a bunch of stuff that should not have been normalized.
Plus, if i did it again, i wouldn't want to get shot twice.
Loved learning, training the brotherhood, and pushing myself beyond perceived limits and exploring new boundaries of the mind, body and spirit.

You got any advise you'd give to a younger version of yourself before entering RASP?
Awe that's a compliment
I always enjoyed the ruck marched, the longer the better, I was called the Mule, the more weight I carried the faster I marched.

I wanna know how many people get dropped out of the rangers after making it to the regiment? I have to imagine a decent amount of soldiers can’t preform at such a high level for a long period of time.
Quite a bit. If you are always on top of your shit, you’ll have a good career. Most people get dropped for non performance related reasons
Many people get dropped because they don’t fit the culture, but they use one of your mistakes as an excuse to drop you when they don’t like you. If that makes sense
Stationed in 25th INF Div. 84-87. We had RIP. Ranger Indoctrinatary Program Was a ass kicker 4 sure
I came in the Army in 2011. When I want to do 75th I put my paperwork in and changed my MOS to 89A to 89B I was told because of the cuts of the overall military I was denied
I never went to rasp or ranger. These guys are fuckin elite.
So what if you never went? You don't have to do something like this to be a good man! Strive to be the best you daily!
Thank you. We appreciate the compliment. May I ask why didn't you go option 40?
psa; Army Rangers have the highest Casualty rate out of any branch
That won't stop anyone who wants to become one.
The casualty rate it's extremely high for rangers. But at what price do you put on freedom?
Rangers Lead The Way
Obviously if you have a unit that is supposed to conduct dangerous missions then they are going to have a higher casualty rate. So what? It still has to be done. Theres a reason why countries honor their militaries and the dead

At the age of 28 would a Option 40 still be do-able or would a 18X Contract be a better fit?
Don’t do 18x. Coming from a former 18x 😅 go 11x and volunteer for rasp at osut.
All American 🇺🇸
@@KB-cw3dw why do you say that? What did you not like about the 18x contract??
@@JNunez1994 the chances of getting selected as an 18x are very low. Lots of guys go who are high speed and squared tf away, but end up not getting selected. Then you’re off to the 82nd. I went to RASP immediately after swcs. It’s very passable, but I showed up already fucked up from my time at swcs. I spent over 6 months in sof pipelines and it fucked me up. I wish I would have just gone straight to rasp from osut, I think things would have been different. But hindsight is 20/20
@@JNunez1994 better yet though, get an airborne contract. You can volunteer for rasp at airborne as well. Just talk to a recruiter. If you end up at a line unit, at least you’re airborne and you can still train up and go to sfas at any time. Or go to sfas through the guard. You have lots of options.

Nice repost. That said, soft shoe at 2:30?
how old do I have to be to go to selection?
Just Retired greatest Job in the military
What age is the cut off for RASP and do you have to be in Active duty ?
For Army Rangers, the age cutoff for the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP) is typically around 41 years old. However, this can vary slightly depending on specific circumstances and the needs of the Army.
Regarding your second question, yes, you generally have to be in active duty to attend RASP. RASP is designed to assess and select soldiers for assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment, which is part of the U.S. Army's active duty forces. Candidates can come from both within the Army and from other branches of the military, but they must be on active duty status. This includes soldiers who are transitioning from the National Guard or Army Reserve to active duty.
Keep in mind that the requirements and policies for RASP can change, so it's always a good idea to check with an official Army recruiter or the Ranger Regiment for the most current information.
@@SOCOMAthleteQuick question: Is RASP just boot camp for the 75th Ranger Regiment and not an extensive training program like the SEAL qualification course right?

could you be involuntarily removed from the program like if your can barley keep up with the group but you keep pushing or is it only really if you give up on yourself
The ways you fail are if you quit, get badly injured, fail the PT tests, or fail land navigation
Just don't give up! Pass what's asked of you, and just don't quit on yourself.

Regiment is really hurting, since GWOT died down and the shit direction of the big army and politics combined with how stressful batt training and deployment cycles are guys are coming out broken and or had enough. It takes a lot to be and maintain yourself in regiment. This generation isn’t going to provide the manpower batt needs. They will need to turn to ai or drones more and robots one day
That looks incredibly easy, what a joke.
