Prepping for any SOF selection is good, but as long as you meet the entry requirements for that Selection course, you’ll be fine if you’re what they’re looking for. People tend to view selection as this insurmountable task standing between them and what they want, but in reality it’s just a test, put forth maximum effort and if you fail then you have nothing to be ashamed of, you just weren’t what they were looking for, If you pass know that selection isn’t the hardest part of the pipeline or the career field, it’s simply to determine whether or not you’re a good fit. That being said don’t quit, If you quit you should absolutely be ashamed.

Can you go over option 40 contracts and whether or not you go to airborne school first? Almost everything I’ve seen online says you go through rasp first but almost everyone I’ve talked to in the military says I’ll go through airborne school then rasp.
When I went through we had a problem with a lot of guys taking RASP contracts in OSUT so they could get Airborne, then they’d quit when we got to pre RASP, this was in 2012. Right before I got out only guys going to SFAS, RASP or Airborne units got slots to Airborne due to budgeting, that was in 2016. So basically it depends on what higher up wants to do at that time.
It is now OSUT-RASP-Airborne. Too many people selected 40 contracts to get airborne qualified and dropped out a couple days into RASP. Army noticed the sham. They flipped the order around.
If you're 11B/C/X, OSUT - RASP - AIRBORNE is what I saw. I was not infantry thus, I went to AIT - AIRBORNE - RASP. However, I did have some 11Bs with me going from ABN to RASP.
Everyone says "do a lot of pushups" or "be able to run far fast" but never actually explains what a lot/fast really is. How much should I be able to do before enlisting to give myself a good chance? The minimum requirements obviously aren't enough, but I don't know what to aim for above them. Like for example, how fast should my 2-mile be? How many pushups should I be able to get in a row before I sign anything? Those are actual milestones I can see happening and I need those to feel like I'll be ready
Hayden Kiger I did some research it’s a little bit of both they have two selection programs for Rasp. Rasp 1 is for lower enlisted soldiers and Sergeants and Rasp 2 for warrant officers , officers, and higher rank soldiers
RASP is what you get on an option 40 contract or you volunteer for while enlisted. Upon completion of this school(which is the one they are talking about) you will then get your ranger scroll and be sent to the 75th ranger regiment. Everyone in the 75th ranger regiment will eventually go to Ranger School which is a tactics and leadership course to help you hone in specific skills. It is not like RASP. People from all over go to Ranger School and get their ranger tab, but don't serve in the 75th ranger regiment.
Hey Matt, I have a question. The administrators at my school have been bothering me about my future since I didnt fill out college apps yet and I had already told my counselor that I want to enlist. Seeing their rush, should I talk to a recruiter right now? Before I turn 18 and not even close to graduation?
If that's what you want to do yes. It was the last week of my junior year when I called the recruiter. I went to MEPS that July. There is delayed enlightenment options
@Ice Distroyer Yea I've done a two years worth of research by now, and still doing more. Just sitting in anticipation while all of that tbh. But yeah I get that, thanks for the answer.
THE GREAT DOGZILLA , yes Ranger medics go through pre SOCM and SOCM before they show up to Batt, out of the Medics 6 or 7 medics that I graduated with only 2 or 3 passed SOCM. Ranger Medics are among the best trained medics in the military.
Help me out here please. I have a serious question. This is not being critical, it's just I don't understand something or am I missing something. I graduated high school 19 may 1979. Had already joined the Army, etc and reported for basic at Ft Benning 21 may 1979. Did basic/ait, then to jump school, then to Ranger school, in that order and went home on leave 19 Dec 1979. Do the math, that is only 2 days short of 7 months. So in 7 months, i went from reception station to wearing jump wings and Ranger Tab. So here is my question.... what's up with all this rasp mess and people trying and trying and trying to get a Tab and it taking forever? Seems to me they are given chances over and over, which is not good IMHO. I was in 3 years, never saw combat. but was prepared and ready if needed. March 1980 they sent our entire company to Jungle Expert school. You never ever hear anything about Jungle expert school anymore. So whats up with all this Rasp mess and giving away Tabs to women and people who wash out so easy?
Ranger school is not RASP. A tab is not a scroll. Back then I don’t even think they had RIP, the battalions would directly conduct selection process. Now adays basic training and AIT is 17 weeks so 4.5 months until you graduate from infantry school. RASP itself is an additional 2 months. I agree though women should not be Rangers.
@@lucasm8528 You still didn't answer my question. I'm not asking about basic and ait. Why does is there even a rasp program? A soldier should be able to go straight from jump school to ranger, and by the way, you didn't even mention jump school. It's impossible for someone to go to ranger school and not be airborne qualified, or at least it use to be that way and i don't see why that would have changed. And if it has changed, then thats messed up. Is the Army really lowering standards that much? What are they just handing out Ranger Tabs now?
The rasp program which used to be rip before 2010 is to build a soldier up to the battalion standards . You keep saying ranger school but ranger school is a complete different selection/school then rasp (ranger assessment selection program) rasp is to get you into the 75th ranger regiment which gets you the scroll and the tan beret which before 2001 used to be a black beret rasp you are able to recycle multiple times until you give you the boot after the third try classes used to start every 8weeks now they are every 4
@@laa5353 why not go directly to Ranger School? this whole thing sounds woosy to me. I don't think the rangers of today are the same as the Rangers of yester year! just my opinion.

I heard you can’t get a op 40 if you have a waiver? But dude 2 puffs in total
You must have 0 waivers to get an option 40. Just don’t tell them anything about that if you want this contract. I smoked weed from age 15-21 I left that out and I just got an option 40
Yung4skin oh, and if yoou were to like go special forces and get a secret clearance or whatever it is do they put you to a lie detector test it would they just background check your history? Cuz if you never get in trouble for weed then they wouldn’t find out later on right?
@@jameshillard5582 Yeah my bad I got it mixed up with the sit ups. Either way what nobody mentions is not only do they push you to a state of exhaustion that day before you even start the PFT, but they expect you to do better than the standard. Think about that Office Space scene with Jennifer Aniston in the pub with the buttons. She has the minimum buttons stated, but really what's stated is below what's expected. It's like that from what I hear
@@jameshillard5582 In RIP you had to do 70% (49) to pass and had six months from your assignment date in regiment to achieve and maintain 80% or you would be RFS'd. If I'm not mistaken, in RASP you have until the end to achieve 80% and you have to maintain that or risk being RFS'd.
i'm not sure what this rasp is, but have a idea.. if it's what i think it is i sure hope females can't go. but then again with the dufus boys going in today, i guess they take what they can get nowdays.

Can you go to RASP and RANGER SCHOOL? If so, what's the difference in the path?
@@carloevangelisti4174 What date do you ship bro? I ship out on June 25th
@@leowang1004so what was the outcome?

Hey Matt, does joining the army with a waiver affect going to schools like airborne pathfinder ranger...
Gabe Pena what about enlisting with airborne in my contract ?
Or choose a MOS that it seriously in need in the regiment.

Your training for Spec Ops.
is there ranger medics any thoughts about 68w.
THE GREAT DOGZILLA yes rangers have a lot of mos
Rangers do not have medics. You have to volunteer and go through a SO Med Course
@@exorcists why the hell would the RANGERS not have medics..?
K If you don’t know what you’re talking about then don’t talk.
THE GREAT DOGZILLA , yes Ranger medics go through pre SOCM and SOCM before they show up to Batt, out of the Medics 6 or 7 medics that I graduated with only 2 or 3 passed SOCM. Ranger Medics are among the best trained medics in the military.
I see all them BPN sups 😄😏
They’re the best 👌🏻
How hard is it to get a option 40 contract
easy
Joe Oaklove pretty easy, not everyone takes option 40 and not everyone makes it. So slots are almost always available
They give 150 away a month
Do not go Ranger if you dont see yourself doing it.

When you complete rasp you get a scroll and a beret you do not get a ranger tab
@@laa5353 why not go directly to Ranger School? this whole thing sounds woosy to me. I don't think the rangers of today are the same as the Rangers of yester year! just my opinion.
@Matt Ward, at any point did he mention WHEN you do the 5-mile run? Is it same day as the APFT, different day? Any other events required that same day as 5-mile run?
RLTW !!!
He did not mention that but the "Ranger PFT" does have that 5-mile run in 40 minutes. So I assume that you do it the same time as the "APFT".

Ok gues I need some help. When I was 14 and 15 I smoked weed. When I say smoked weed I literally mean when I was 14 I had ONE PUFF. that was literally it. And when I was either 15 or 16 I had one more puff offered. I haven’t even smoked half a blunt. Just two puffs. Is this soemthing I should tell a recruiter? If so would I have to she. A waiver? I heard you can’t get a op 40 if you have a waiver? But dude 2 puffs in total
Don’t you even tell your recruiter that. Weed only stays in your system for about 3 weeks, as long as you’re clean.
Do not tell your recruiter that. In fact, do not tell him/her anything that there isn’t proof of on paper somewhere.
you never smoked weed
5 tips to pass RASP from a guy who didnt pass..?
Considering he failed, I believe he’d be qualified to educate people on what to harp on the most.

Did he not pass rasp because of push ups??
ballerstew gotta remember theyre probably mad sore from prior training
wait he got 56 push ups??? I thought min was 49????
minimum for RPFT is 58. RIP
@@luisdawnfinder3188 ? everywhere i look RASP Rpft is only 49 tho lmao. Even my recruiting station giving me my rpft is saying 49
Rasp is minimum 58 push ups and 69 sit ups, ranger school and sfas is 49 push ups minimum
Any tips for females?
Why would it be any different?
How’d he fail the push ups the minimum is 53 he got 56
