Haha. Some memories about that school!. I was a Marine in Ranger class 12-92 . Anyone going there should focus on knowing that no matter how much it sucks while you’re going through it; graduation day will come as sure as the sun will come up to warm you up, you will eat again, you will sleep again, don’t give up just because you’re uncomfortable. Get that tab.
I was in the 82nd in the early 80s, I love your videos, you motivate me in life. I work in DevOps and Cybersecurity now but I gleen so much from your enthusiasm and willingness to share your knowledge. I appreciate the work you do.
Thank you for a most interesting and well-presented video. In the mid 70’s my boss was an infantry captain in the Royal Canadian Regiment. One day he told me about his experience on the US Army Ranger course. He said they were required to make a jump and the Americans assumed the Canadian students would all be jump qualified. He wasn’t and had never made a jump but he asked his fellow students for assistance and with their help learned what to do, and so was able to make a successful jump. Later when this leaked, he was called before the school staff where he was admonished (with a Ranger wink). What struck me most about this Captain was that he was of medium build, quiet and soft spoken, the opposite of a Rambo type warrior. A vacancy on a US Ranger course was much coveted and those selected did not want to fail. Returning to your regiment without earning the Ranger tab would be a source of shame.
An Army Infantry SSG. I once had a 2LT platoon leader who was peered out of Ranger School... TWICE! Not sure if he was being a turd, or just because he was naturally stubborn. But having served with many who were tabbed, the takeaway here is this: Be a pal. Offer to carry more than your share, help out buddies and leadership whenever possible, and this won't happen to you.
My son graduated in April with RC 5-24, his first attempt at RS; he recycled once in Mountains (for an ND), and got GO's on 4-6 looks overall. Recycling Mountains was actually good as it let him build his strength back. Currently serving with TOG. Proud Ranger Dad!
Mountain phase, did a night time live fire ambush ( towed vehicles ) . When we started pulling back there were person sized shadows scurrying around the positions we had been firing from. Found out later it was back woods hill people grabbing spent brass. The Tennessee valley divide is literally Deliverance.
Yeah, that never happened. There are no "live fire" patrols at modern Ranger School. And the only live fire type patrols they did back in the day was in FL phase. So, yeah, you just heard a story that somebody that went to Ranger School told and decided to embellish on it.
I'm just a German father of a 82nd soldier who really wants to try the Ranger Tab. Watching your Video's just makes me even prouder: Great Information. Message to the rest of the World. Don't mess with the US Military. These guy's and girls are good!
I started with class 10-82 & recycled into 11-82 by failing the comprehensive exam on the last day of Benning phase (as it was then called). It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me, and I got my tab with 11-82 later that summer. If you are doubting yourself you will fail, but if you get your body, head, and attitude right you can make it. Always pay attention to the details, and lead the way!
Just bought your 13 week ranger training program. It looks great. As someone who strives to achieve being a ranger and ultimately SF, it looks like an amazing start. Currently in the enlistment process.
I grew up in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. My dad was a chief for 20 years my mom was a marine. My sister just joined the army and is living her best life playing in one of the top bands..I played baseball professionally. Transitioning into a stable career post covid has been difficult. At 32 my wife and I have 2 kids under 3 and I want to join up with the goal of becoming an army ranger which is how I found your channel.
Graduated class 11-86. After the Mountain Phase we jumped into Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah for a Desert Phase. Then we jumped into Florida for the final phase. Back then it was only one MRE a day. We looked like refugees when we graduated.

Having just dropped out of RASP and now being sent to Ranger School literally a month after getting to my unit, I'll ne honest, I'm terrified of failing again, I know I won't quit, but that fear is always in the back of my mind. I pray to God that He will help me through this and help me not give up on myself again. Thank you for this video sir, I'll be coming back with that tab!
Here goes. I go to the pre- ranger at the end of June. Then once that's done I go straight to Ranger. But the catch is I'm doing JRTC before pre Ranger. Two days after JRTC I start pre Ranger. I'll make it happen. The way I look at it, I'll stay in shape and get into the military planning mind set necessary for the missions at the school. My only concern is keeping my packing list up to date.
@@GrittySoldier I have been following you for years! You’re the reason I applied to OCS 2x! By far one of the best leaders the Army has!! Congratulations on JM brother!
I'm 41 and trying to get in Ranger School. Just finished BCT and checking if I can join just because a Sargeant told me I would quit. Proved him wrong on BCT and looking forward to prove him wrong here, also.
I get the sleep deprivation, I was used to it in the Marines but 0-5 a day for 62 days? That's crazy how do people function? Longest I went was 2 hours per night for 12 days and I was already seeing things and hating life.
I have heard that SORs are for for real-world safety issues but it sounds like also for blue:blue behaviors on FTX even with blanks, etc. Adjusting fire onto friendly forces, failing to shift supporting fires, etc. Back in my day, it would have been Major Minus Spotreps. "Volunteer to hump the Pig / 240 - every time." Best advice I got before Ranger School. Class 4-83.
I'm 30 yrs old joining the military for the first time. Im not in my 18 yr old prime shape. I leave March 4th. This is something I always wanted to do and wanted to be a part of . I've already been through MEPS and I signed to be a 25u Airborne Ranger. Any advice on how to take on ranger school or anything you've said outside this video that I should know or be aware of in order to prepare?
Off topic question, anyone got watch recommendations for Ranger? I was thinking about a Hamilton Field Khaki but I don't like that the sapphire glass is reflective. Easy fix with a watch cover if anyone's got suggestions. Can I take an analogue non-GPS watch with built in barometer, altimeter, compass? Definitely gonna take at least two watches with me when I go in July.
Would you recommend the same training program for a woman? Is there any modifications/extra work maybe that should be added? I know it’s same all at the school, so this is just for training purposes.
fixing to sign a contract with my job being 25Hotel with airborne school, then ranger school after airborne. i’m physically getting myself prepared but im nervous that i wont be trained enough in basic boot camp to efficiently carry out rtts and land navigation for ranger school, any tips?
You sure you want to be a 25H? Also are you going National Guard because the only people who I see getting Ranger School (not Rasp) is OSUT soldiers in National Guard.
I would say really focus on cardio. When I say Cardio try doing an 8 mile run at a 8:00 to 8:15 pace 5 Mile with the goal of being as close to 7 minute to 7:15 pace 8 - 10, 400m (1/4 mile) Sprints with a target time of 1:30. Try getting a toatal amount of 20 to 25 miles a week of running just so you get used to the amount of volume and stress on the body. Stress fractures and pains is what gets alot of people and to mitigate that you just need to add volume to your workouts. Strength training is important as well.
@@mcknightdavenwhy do you want to be a 25H? Do you want to work with computers? Cause if you want to do computers what you should really ask is what type of computer work you want to do?
You’ve got to get in the pool and put yourself through the standards. I’d also find a place with a high dive and start getting over any fear of jumping into deep water from heights.

Pick the mos that you will have the most enjoyment with. Do not pick an mos that you won’t want to do every single day as your job. This is your career after all, and you’re becoming an adult and a leader. You must choose for yourself, something that you want to wake up and do, even on the tough days. That being said, any mos can attend ranger school, but combat arms typically send the most with infantry being the largest population. Regardless, bug your leadership about going as much as possible, and prove to them that you will pass ranger school by being athletically dominant, and a leader! Good luck.
🤔 I would say not really, I guess in some ways, but a lot more is just up to you on whether you’ll fail or not. RIs will NOT hold your hand with anything.
Ranger School is NOT a School! You don't "Learn how to be a Ranger". You go to Ranger School, to prove that you ALREADY ARE an Airborne Ranger. That means understanding the RAID, AMBUSH, MOVEMENT TO CONTACT, AND RECON so you could do it in your sleep; literally. Listen to the OP ORDERS, understand what is being communicated, plan a simple and clear mission, and make audibles as needed. ALSO, go to School Airborne Qualified. Airborne Operations are a significant part of being an "Airborne" Ranger. Everyone gets hurt jumping; CSM Birch broke his leg jumping at Haditha, and he didn't get it fixed until 3rd Batt came home two and half months later. You will be fine...
