Served at 1/75 2006-2009, tabbed and scrolled. Best unit PERIOD! Wish I had stayed in as a career, I have nothing but amazing memories as a W1.
I had a slot back in the 90s and I deselected myself. I wasn't mentally/physically prepared so I talked myself out of it. this is the only regret I have from my time in service, throwing away the opportunity. Kinda wish I had a mentor or at least something like this back in the day.. Thanks for sharing this and it's valuable info for future Rangers and folks joining in general.. AATW

These "deselection" acts add up as the decades' pass. Some are best deselected; I'd go for the Ranger Regiment if I was 18 again. It's best to be self-driven daily I've learned, "no slack due."

I’m turning 25 I think it’s time I decide to join the army and make my way to be a ranger. I’m a hands on type of person and well disciplined.
If you are serious, you're working out every day, really working out. You will want to take advantage of soldier handbooks, including the Ranger Handbook available on the RR website, I believe. It's best to do your confidence training and learning well in advance of class time because when you get into a class, your brain will seek sleep and recuperation, but your mind must keep you on task, whatever you've done for the day. Get busy; the message in the video, you need to be self-driven 24/7. Cheers!

I a Marine but looking back now if I had it to do all over again I would have joined the Army and became a Ranger!
Marines also have opportunities, like Force Recon and such.
My son is at AIT (OSUT) right now at Fort Benning and waiting for the Rangers to come this week. This is his dream!! RLTW!

I remember in AIT they came talking to us, got airborne cleared and I was tabbed in 91! And that’s it! As far as I made it. Lol I blew my right knee and I was pretty much done by 2000. VA 100% P/T since

How active are the Rangers now? Since war has calmed down. Are they getting after it? Training a lot? Or is it slow and they not doing much atm? I plan on enlisting in the fall of this year.
There is no down time for Ranger Regiment. They continue to train for the fight and you’ll earn the right to wear that beret every day.
21:40 they start to talk about volunteering for RASP at Airborne School
Tell Tagami and Bishop that PR needs to put out more videos on the RUclips channel. We group up in a Regiment that was totally anti anything social media or video recording for the most part. It's big now in days for recruiting, but the random tiktoks from privates needs to be squashed. I'm seeing alot of Call Signs and just to much stuff coming from lower enlisted ranks
I notice they didn't talk about the ruthless hazing you are going to get(see: getting beat down everyday) until you are tabbed, deployment scrolled and CIB. Guys get tired of it and get out after their first contact or go SF or CAG. Regiment has problems keeping anyvody.

The hazing is rough with 11 series other MOS they are not as rough. You are expected to go though and if you don’t want to you just get the boot.
Hazing was done away with. Getting fucked with, that's everyday life for 11 series. Was during your time, my time, and before me. Nothing new. Just suck it up and drive on. Drink water and face out..
I've actually been seriously looking at requesting an Op40 from my local recruiter the last couple weeks, and although I have a couple things to fix up on the physical side first, I also had a question...
Is it possible to put in a request to be stationed with one specific Battalion, or is it purely determined by what MOS they need in each Battalion?
Not a ranger but you don’t get to select specific battalions in any branch so I would think probably not
You don't get to select the Battalion. It's at the needs of the Regiment. You also don't need an Option 40 to go Ranger. At most installations they have a recruiting team from Regiment that comes to the advanced training portion or during One Station Unit Training (OSUT) for combat arms MOSs and they can modify your contract the same as if you came in with an Option 40.
@@Mentors4mil Awesome, just what I wanted to know! I figured it was at the needs of the Regiment, but just wanted to know. I've been in the south forever, but I used to live up near the Pacific Northwest (and have family up there) so it'd be cool to get stationed up there eventually.
Also, I'm not currently in the Military so I am getting a lot of people telling me to go for an Op40 right out of the gate. Still trying to decide how best to proceed though.
Anyway, thanks for the info and for sharing all the stories of these amazing guys and gals, it's been really inspiring me through this whole covid debacle. Keep up the great work!
@@conradthegreat812 : The only way to be guaranteed a RASP slot is with an Option 40 contract. Anything less than that and you're trying your luck. There are recruiting teams that run around AIT classes commonly, but if Regiment are high density in your particular MOS, you might be that rare class that gets missed. Not worth taking a chance, get an Option 40 contract or don't ship out. It will magically appear within 90-120 days.
As far as assignment to a specific Batt after RASP, ultimately it's down to the needs of the Regiment. There are certain MOS' that are RSTB only. As far as the three 'line Batts', you fill out a preference list from first choice to last, and the RASP cadre will try and accommodate you, especially if you're a top performer.
I never had a Ranger recruiter when I completed OSUT at Ft. Benning in 1988.
It's not been around that long.They are all over now, basically at every AIT station that carries the MOSs within Regiment. One is still at Airborne School and has been there probably around the timeframe that you mentioned.

How can a 1LT army nurse crosstrain/transition to go Ranger Regiment? What would be the options?
So you can go option 4 and have an opportunity at ait or airborne school to attend rasp and potentially make it to the 75th?
If you don’t get Option 40 at MEPS, depending upon your MOS, there are liaison NCOs at several AIT locations and at airborne school who have the ability to modify your contract to go to RASP - same as an Option 40 contract.

What's the max age you can enlist and get the option 40?
Was in the army for 3 years as 11B... went to rasp and got myself day 1 deselected like an idiot. Spent my career at Ft. Bragg in the 82nd. Totally miserable. Failing RASP always left a bad taste in my mouth and I was totally unmotivated after that. I became an average to below average paratrooper at best. I was a sound infantryman but a poor soldier. Since getting out i've had trouble committing to a career choice. Lately I've been contemplating re-enlisting but it's a tough choice. I'm much more confident and physically fit than I was now but I still struggle with the decision to get back in and risk going back to a horrible unit. And believe me there are some garbage ass units in the Army. I certainly learned alot where I went but the big army is 100x worse than any SOF unit on their worst day.
If you hated being an 11- bang bang with 82nd and you won't be satisfied going back in either. Just bcz you are more confident and more rounded than ever, it is still the same Army clown show. Anyway, being an Infantryman in a COIN op or say GWOT just sucks and pointless. Literally, everyone who was a Marine or Army infantryman played cop. Iraq or Afghan campaign.
Was active duty now reserve’s, can you make the jumó from reserves to rasp and eventually be active duty?
You can request to go active duty by submitting the right paperwork through your commander. If the command agrees, you can go to a US Army recruiter to enlist active duty. They can let you know more. You can always submit to go to Ranger Regiment and attend RASP while on active duty.
What’s the oldest you can be to join the regiment? I’ve been training for it for a couple years and wanting it for longer but I’m old af for ranger standard. 34. Signing up for 11b in a couple weeks. Got a gt over 105 on my ASVAB, 91 overall score and high TAPAS scores (if that means anything) can meet the physical standards but would they just consider me too old? I’m joining regardless but curious to know if anybody has a realistic take on this?
No age requirement in ranger regiment
The number one thing that stops anyone from achieving special operations is that they self deselect. Age doesn't matter.
How has things changed since COVID is around now? Have they had to change RASP to curb the spread of has standards mainly remain the same?
COVID has caused an evaluation to safety protocols, but RASP is still the same otherwise.
think about this. a new pipeline for special forces selection. I call it 10 Brave (PIONEERS). it's a OSUT of 15 weeks
week 1-4 Basic Training 4 weeks (rifle range, D&C, First Aid, Gas Chamber, Grenade's, Obstacle Courses)
Week 5 Military Vehicle Familiarization/ Pistol Class 1 week (driving class/pistol's)
Week 6-7 Mortars 2 weeks
Week8-11 Combat Engineering 4 weeks
Week 12-15 Infantry 4 Weeks
Have ah Axe as the Tab on Sleeve. give all the Airborne options and all that...
they well need to do 30 push-ups/run a mile in 8 min mile. before going through this pipeline ,, u know be in a little bit of shape.... not much but some...
Think About That! if u fail give um a option for regular Army or Space Force if they fail out

What if your there in airborne school or AIT on a national guard contract, can you still be recruited there and change your contract to an active duty (option 40) contract???
No. Soldiers on active duty attending training must return to their unit and ask for a commanders release to go into active service.

I live in Canada but have y’all worked with CSOR (Canadian special operation regiment)? And if you have if you could describe the guys in Csor using one word what would it be?
We have not.
I'm Canadian and made it into 2/75. As American Indians, First Nations Canadians can serve in US military under the Jay Treaty. You can access a green card at US Customs if you have all the right paperwork. However, technically not in SOCOM (whatever its called now). Eventually I had to leave as I wasnt a full US citizen, there were a bunch of us at the time that were pushed out (Canadians, Puerto Ricans, etc). Nowadays I don'd think you'd get to RASP without being a full citizen.
Is it possible to still be a ranger joining in at the age of 30?
Yes.
I think...I'd rather do my first 5 as an Army grunt as a Ranger, then reenlist for Italy and/or Korea (at the DMZ) if you guys do back to back overseas tours. Get RASP, Ranger School, deployment, CIB, EIB, Airborne, and Air Assault out of the way first while building good habits, and then go enjoy Europe as a more senior guy. Just go to the Scout Platoon of the 173rd.

Wait so one thing I got from this is that Rangers can’t spend their whole time in the army as a Ranger unless you join a non-combatant MOS. Is that correct? Only like 3-4 years then they have to join conventional army? Or did I get the info mixed up?
I think that’s more in the case of officers. On the enlisted side, from what I understand, you grow up in batt and stay there unless you get RFS’d. I could be wrong, this is just what I’ve gathered.

You can spend your entire career in Regiment. Most don't. It's hard to keep up with the younger guys. Officers must rotate out, but can always come back. The idea is for everyone to stay a while and then rotate to the conventional forces. It doesn't always happen.

no. a chinny is a huge bird. and slower than normal. through a valley. its not a difficult shot, and it fucking sucks. weve lost birds before (we meaning the military and in that area). i knew 0% of those guys, but my heart aches for them.

If you expect to go through basic, expect to get stuck with all sorts of stuff, and when you deploy overseas, expect more sticking to take place. Really, everyone born before 1972 got stuck with Small Pox vaccines, and no one whimped out then. Short story, you cannot get through basic without having all sorts of putrifying matter stuck in your body, that's what the Germ Theory of Disease prescribes.

Not sure what this comment is referring to, but Recruiters are soldiers from all MOSs in the Army who've been assigned to that job for 36 months. The Army considers the assignment as a career progression and it's either recruiter or drill sergeant - you don't get to choose. Many have multiple combat deployments and some with SOF.
@@Mentors4mil I think that I would go the drill sergeant route, as physically demanding it becomes. Recruiters are out in the wild among the public. Not everyone is friendly to the uniform these days. If people get away calling John McCain a "loser," then anything's possible.

Know cook has shot as much as an infantryman. Rangers are infantryman. The infantry that go into ranger battalions bring with them skillsets that ad onto the ranger battalion.
Rangers (Ranger Regiment) have multiple military occupational skills. Infantry is but one of the MOSs as a Ranger.
