    Evolutionary, clouded leopards are considered ancient , almost like living fossils ( the long snout and sabre-cat teeth are 2 indicators for this). So, it is likely that we could be looking at the stage of evolution where there wasn’t a felis/panthera split in cats yet.

    Just stopping in here to say that I adopted my first pet that is all my own just last night. She's a rescue Bengal cat I'm naming Nebula, because she lovely spots remind me of the Clouded Leopard, Neofelis nebulosa. Pure chance that I got her the day this episode landed. She's everything I could have hoped for: intelligent, sweet, affectionate and super playful. Nebula says hi!

    • @fgialcgorge7392

      This is three years old but I've seen her. She's great. Much love. I've got three I rescued as kittens and a Wolfdog and Coydog I had raised since they were days old. They all get along great and if fact so great that when the second of the Wolfdogs from the litter I took in passed, my cat and him were so bonded that it's been a year and she still isn't the same. She calls him constantly. She has a unique call just for him that kinda sounds like "buh-cown". Breaks my heart. They groomed each other. He treated her like a pup and helped stimulating her potty. Before her eyes even opened she'd sniff him out and climb up my comforter to between his front paws and that's what they did every night until he passed from a heart condition that was never found. He got to Papa my Coydog for a couple weeks before he passed so that brings me a little happiness. He was a fantastic boy and great companion, loves everything that moved. He'd even catch mice and hold them in his mouth, run away(outside) and let em go or groom them if they got injured. Not a mean bone in his body. Him and his brother are probably not the norm as wolfdogs but I couldn't imagine better companions. His brother is grooming me right now and my Coydog Lucille is asleep on my chest next to one of my cats. All I did was show them love and positive reinforcement.

    Contrast with the habitat of the snow leopard on the barren rocky mountains...

    These cats are so pretty! I wish poachers wouldn’t kill them and instead see them in zoos or sanctuaries to admire them for not just their fur.
    Do the tardigrade (water bear) next! They are so weird!

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish 6 лет назад +7

      Pretty sure the only way to lessen the effects of poaching is to make the activity less profitable. Encouraging social changes that make the products less acceptable is one option, but I'm afraid that there will always be a market for the forbidden. And the more forbidden something is, the more expensive it is. While some things *should* be forbidden, in the case of animal poaching, I suspect a more practical solution is to establish captive breeding programs that sell the valuable parts at a price lower than what the poachers offer.
      The people who buy such products get what they want, and conservationists get a (hopefully) stable captive population that can be used to reintroduce the species to the wild. Everyone wins but the poachers.
      Which can lead to violence. *Has* lead to violence when poachers retaliate against legal establishments. But, ultimately, it seems like the best way to win.
