i find it interesting how rykard and radahn are very similar in how they were raised and how they were revered, but where radahn had to be killed because he fought valiantly against something he couldn't control, rykard had to be killed because he chose to go down the wrong path. theyre both great characters but the thing that separates them in the eyes of the people is the nature of how they fell from grace
Idk. I think it's because he became justiciar that he ended up like that. Learning about the dark side of things will do that. Especially when you find out that the Golden Order that you tried so hard to protect is the one most corrupted. Imagine being the clean up guy then finding out that the people you've been cleaning up were the ones you were trying to protect and the ones you're cleaning up for were the criminals you were trying to punish. That would break you and you either embrace it or make it right. Either way, with vox populous, you will be perceived as evil. Either for joining hands with the system or going against it. You're left with being a monster and I think he fully embraced that. Similar to Mohg embracing his circumstances. Radahn and Rykard were just parallels to Morgott and Mogh. Much like how Ranni and Godwyn are tied to one another.
It's interesting that Renalla and all her children were really not that bad comparatively. The influence of the Golden Order though changed them. Ranni hated the way the Greater Will controlled them. She was the only one not manipulated by Marika. Though she had to unalived herself.
Hard press to say any path is the wrong path....in the dlc you kind realize the greater will forsake them and the frenzy flame is supposed to consume it all because the fingers are damaged and no longer connected to the greater will. The wizard guy in the cathedral makes it clear there's no saving anything.

She lowkey was the worst offender of them for basically starting the shattering (at least before the dlc which kind of solidifies miquella as the most manipulative, he's kind of like ranni in a lot of ways)
Rykard feeding himself and later feeding powerful warriors to the serpent reminds me of the jarring rituals done by the hornsent and the grafting rituals by godrick....
Because it in essence is the same thing. Godrick has blood of the shamans making the Grafting possible, rykard could have grafted too but chose the serpent instead. The mistake both made was thinking it would give them power greater than Marika, but marika didnt destroy omens and grafters because they were a threat, she killed and culled them for personal revenge.
The problem is we killed the only character that could enact that ending. Bernahl’s weapon shows the ending: it’s a snake devouring the entire world. Without the serpent, there is no world devourer, therefore no Rykard ending.
@@kolbywilliams7234 it’s probably unlikely that the serpent is actually dead, at least for good. And there are still plenty of things the serpent left behind that could give us some kind of ending. It doesn’t have to be that the serpent devours the gods, just anything relating to the volcano manor would have been cool, especially since there are so many characters involved in it and it lasts quite a while.

If you want a recusant ending, play pvp, then when you get tired of that, stop playing Elden Ring. That is essentially what the recusants are all about.
Its always been my (unsubstantiated) headcanon that Rykard's original plan was to have Tanith become the God Devouring Serpent. Upon losing Radahn and Rennala and believing he'd lost Ranni he decided he couldn't rule if what mattered to him most was gone, so he made the sacrifice instead.
The only problem i have with rykard is that his men faultered i feel rykard decided that when the ring shattered the gods abandoned them and he would take what he could, but is it even blasphemy if the gods abandoned you?
Rykard did alot more than just take what he could reach. In his war against the gods he found another god and became its plaything. And rykard was never a good man. He had a cause that people agreed with and his most loyal militia realized that he had abandoned a god for another. The irony of the godkiller serpents is that they have a god of their own. Rykards men recognized this and attempted to put him out of his misery.

I really don't think that mt. Gelmir was a volcano before Rykard got there, I think when they rediscovered the ancient magic there is became an active volcano. It was certainly a nice town / castle before they got there
Radagon returned to Marika because they were the same person from the beginning. To ascend from shaman to empyrian she was merged with Radagon (literally since shamans can mold together). To ascend into godhood she divested (separated) herself from Radagon and embraced the old order that she despised and destroyed by marriage with Hoarah Loux / Godfrey, becoming a god and taming the bestiality of the old order that used to revolt her, until Marika broke and could no longer embrace the old order and as such called back the old part of her while sending Godfrey off. And by doing such she broke the golden order, as it cannot exist without it's predecessor.

So there is a large amount of time in which Rykard could've contributed to the crusade by supplying these iron virgins. The crusaders under Messmer were at some point after this shut off from the lands between. So no, Rykard most likely did not have access to the land of shadows, but he did most likely supply iron virgins for the crusade. Please correct me if you find anything that contradicts this.

Yes all the demi gods were basically double immortal Before destined death was taken away they could probably only be killed by eachother or divine weapons type ish But after destined death was taken it was very different until the night of black knives took place

I believe demigods were far easier to kill than you think, and the ones left standing at the beginning of the game are the only ones left from an outright civil war.
Yes but Marika also ordered the demigods to be something otherwise they will be used as sacrifice. It could be the reason why Rykard and Mogh tried their best to be as much of a menace as they can be so that they can justify their existence and not be forced as a sacrifice like what Ranni did to Godwyn.

If you think of Elden Ring as a Game Of Thrones type story, then it's easy to realize that the demigods are split into different factions. Ranni and Rykard worked together during the night of the black knives, but quickly ended their alliance after Rykard was devoured by the blasphemous serpent. I believe Rykard then just started his own faction and aimed for devouring all Gods. I have a theory that everything is influenced by the shards each demigod holds, making them more inclined to aim for Godhood or Elden Lord then they ordinarily would. I don't think Rykard cared about Miquella specifically other than to eat him, but he may have originally allied with Ranni to counteract Miquella's influence.
I don’t remember where I saw it, but I’m subscribing to the theory that our tarnished is an abandoned child of Marika born in a mausoleum. Our power is we’re a terminator. We don’t quit. Not saying it’s right, but it’s poetic and makes sense.

Well you are a mortal even if grace keeps reviving you so like Gideon Ofnir thought maybe you can't destroy a god like Marika without a divine or semidivine being helping you. In the basegame you either repair the elden ring, let Ranni kill Marika and take the ring or become the avatar of the frenzied flame an outer god and kills Marika along with alot of other people. Specifically goldmasks repair rune of perfect order seems to limit the abilities of Marika and potentially also her elden lord consort to missuse their divine controll of the world. So choose goldmask if you want to be elden lord without Ranni or risking Marika controlling you. But yeah it is explained why hitching your wagon behind any of the other demigods is impossible. Moghs plan flatout will not work so you will wait for eternity playing pvp. Rykard don't want you for you only your power to add to his serpent abomination "family" so let him eat you and stop playing that character to let it stay dead in his stomach. Miqulla wants to controll you so let him steal your heart and similarilly stop playing that character. I agree that it kinda sucks that no demigod other than Ranni can be the new god in any ending since it could have an intressting story to it.
Radagon divested himself of Renala just as Miquella divests themselves of parts of themself and their past all to achieve godhood, which radagon did in his synthesis with Marika. I don’t think radagon was always Marika.

I kinda thought there was gonna be a connection with Mesmer since his motif is also fire and serpents. But something with the serpent and rykard taking over Tanith after she finishes eating him would be interesting the quest ends too abruptly with the Patches item

Messmer had a fire snake possessing him and Rykard ended up possessing a magma / fiery snake.
There also was many ships on the coast in that area. Meaning they could’ve come from other lands

I believe demigods were far easier to kill than you think, and the ones left standing at the beginning of the game are the only ones left from an outright civil war.

If you think of Elden Ring as a Game Of Thrones type story, then it's easy to realize that the demigods are split into different factions. Ranni and Rykard worked together during the night of the black knives, but quickly ended their alliance after Rykard was devoured by the blasphemous serpent. I believe Rykard then just started his own faction and aimed for devouring all Gods. I have a theory that everything is influenced by the shards each demigod holds, making them more inclined to aim for Godhood or Elden Lord then they ordinarily would. I don't think Rykard cared about Miquella specifically other than to eat him, but he may have originally allied with Ranni to counteract Miquella's influence.

Well you are a mortal even if grace keeps reviving you so like Gideon Ofnir thought maybe you can't destroy a god like Marika without a divine or semidivine being helping you. In the basegame you either repair the elden ring, let Ranni kill Marika and take the ring or become the avatar of the frenzied flame an outer god and kills Marika along with alot of other people.
Specifically goldmasks repair rune of perfect order seems to limit the abilities of Marika and potentially also her elden lord consort to missuse their divine controll of the world. So choose goldmask if you want to be elden lord without Ranni or risking Marika controlling you.
But yeah it is explained why hitching your wagon behind any of the other demigods is impossible. Moghs plan flatout will not work so you will wait for eternity playing pvp. Rykard don't want you for you only your power to add to his serpent abomination "family" so let him eat you and stop playing that character to let it stay dead in his stomach. Miqulla wants to controll you so let him steal your heart and similarilly stop playing that character.
I agree that it kinda sucks that no demigod other than Ranni can be the new god in any ending since it could have an intressting story to it.

Probably too much wishful thinking on my part but I’m hoping they make another DLC continuing Rykard, The God Serpent, and Tanith’s story. I kinda thought there was gonna be a connection with Mesmer since his motif is also fire and serpents. But something with the serpent and rykard taking over Tanith after she finishes eating him would be interesting the quest ends too abruptly with the Patches item
