I always thought that the Mandarin duck was an absolutely colorful bird. The next Duck that I thought had beautiful colors and might be a close runner-up is the wood duck
Fun Chinese fact: the Chinese term for mandarin ducks is also used to refer to human couples (married or not) a bit like how in english you might call a couple "lovebirds".
Chinese also uses mandarin ducks to describe loving romantic relationships, especially with the idiom/saying: 只羡鸳鸯不羡仙,meaning one would rather envy the ducks love and dedication to one other, instead of being gods and deities above.
Do the Eclectus parrot! The sexual dimorphism is reversed, males are plain green while females are bright red and blue. It was a mystery why this was so but scientist observations soon had it solved!
@@J0.n. it's speculated that the females had a reddish color to hide well in tree hollows during mating season (since males try to find any females, even the ones who've mated) while the male has green plumage for camouflage purposes Edit: That's just what I've read tho, if there's more to add, please do so
Awww, the little females aren't homely, I think they're pretty. They're just more subtle and understated. As they should be in order to brood eggs and try not to stand out to predators.
I agree with you, they are so pretty, they remind me of little fawns. That makes sense about the females not standing out to predators, seems like a fact I should've realized before about sexual dimorphism.

I like how flamboyant most males in the animal kingdom are djbwnsnsbs ☠️ Like in humans if a guy if flamboyant they straight up call him gay (being gay isn't a bad thing lol I'm bisexual) I wish we could be like other animals... Carefree and FLAMBOYANT
Fun fact birds are actually more colorful than what we can see, both males and females. They have a broader light spectrum than we do and can see more colors. So the way female birds look aren't as dull as we think, and the males are even more flamboyant.
It’s interesting that it’s pretty much the same with most animals. The „better“ you look, the more attractive you are to females. Beauty doesn’t hold any survival value and neither are better looking ducks better partners or fathers.. but that’s just the way it is and how mating works.
