The more I listen this song the more it grows in me, the obsession and despair in Danny's voice is clear and the creepy sound at the beginning makes you realize the determination of the girl to have at any cost what she wants. I really like this album.

All 3 were trained on classical piano at a very young age. This is the song where the murder happens. The protagonist is standing over the dead body as she sings the outro chorus.

I was in a real quandary as to tell him that. First because I wasn't sure if it was told in "secret" to certain level patrons. Second, well, I just didn't know if I should. At any rate, I'm glad you did.

Being left searching for words is not an uncommon reaction to this album. The dark turn from longing, to violence catches you off guard, and leaves you wondering what in the world is going on. This song creeped me out, the first time I heard it (the whole album did really). From here, the character begins to struggle with the reality of what she has done. The warfare between her conscience, and her wanting to justify murder is the central theme. 🤘🏻😱

I absolutely LOVE! (MEEEE) the intense emotional rollercoaster of this song. Dany is brilliant, but this is one a person really needs to hear the studio version to really appreciate what she does here. Her vocal inflections and style vary more than her live performance. It's a great showcase for Dany's talent. When I first heard this song (beginning of Chapter 2) I was exhausted from enjoyment. On the studio cut Dany's voice sounds earie at the beginning like someone insane. She finishes with that, too. In between... well excited pop to raging. No other song on the album slays like this. I love it. Two items that you mentioned that I'm completely in step with you. That subtle guitar in the background which, also, finishes the song. I think it provides both texture and mood to the song. That drum roll about half way through. Paulina. What can I say? It sets me off every time I hear it (which is a LOT). Perfectly timed and set in the song. It's almost like a signal to crank the emotion level. I saw how you reacted when it hit. Yeah, that was me. Her drum work in this song is brilliant. I don't want to end without mentioning how well the bass glues the song together. Always right where it needs to be solidifying the music. Is subtly aggressive a term for this? Cool review. Appreciate you!

Stalker is the transition song on the album, where the Crimson Queen commits the irrevocable act of murder. The remainder of the album is her fight with her 'evil self' as if it were a different person, some songs from her viewpoint and some from the evil side's.

Great Reaction Paul. For me Stalker is one of the best songs on the album. It has a theatrical intro with the piano, thereafter several tempo shifts, some few neat drumfills in other straight forward beat on the drums and a very going base. But for me it is the song where Dany goes into her character full if you can say like that. From here on the duality is dominated fully by the Crimson Queen. The chorus “It’s Crazy...“ will follow you...

My first reaction to this piece was that it could have been part of a stage musical rather than a stand alone rock song and therefore had to do with character development. I get an ironic punk feel with P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C. which you have not yet reacted to and something closer to metal with Queen of the Murder Scene, the eponymous tract. Given their ages, that is a bit of variety in one album at a time when albums are merely collections. I like the wholeness of the package.

Awesome to have this waiting for me after finishing a couple hours of work here at the office! A little surprised that this track didn't grab hold of you a bit more, but I think it will come more into focus after another listen. Listen carefully to the lyrics because things have taken quite a turn emotionally, and psychologically for the protagonist in the story.
    This section is key:
It's crazy how i need to have it
It's crazy, it's an ugly habit
    Yes or no whichever,
    I'll have you someday
    I'll have you FOREVER
I think I can relate to where your head was after your first listen, as my initial reaction upon first listen was that this was a melodically pleasing track with some creepy, eerie dissonance mixed in with the opening piano bars and then again at the end, with a flourish of emotionally charged lyrics and "power choruses" in the middle. Like you said, there's a cool riff that runs underneath the whole track -- the foundation if you will (that's for Paulina) -- I think I was hoping for the song to be more intense musically, as in heavier or harder in terms of the progression of songs leading to this point.
However, once you listen to it a few times, and also understand what is happening, it makes perfect sense why the song is as "simple" as it is in its structure. Especially when you juxtapose it with the next track, Red Hands Never Fade. This track is all about the emotional resonance elicited by Dany's singing, and how it builds to a state of frantic and, in this case, psychotic state of mind. But this one will set up everything else that happens after this and all the stops will be pulled out from here on out. Look forward to your comments after a few more listens and post-RHNF.

I basically agree with what most of the commentators have said in the comment section. I also needed to listen multiple times, to get the whole album. I like the whole album now and even on that first listen I was like you, I knew I liked it but just needed to listen more. For me one telling fact is even months after its release when I play the album I listen to every song from beginning to end, that says a lot, very rarely will I like/or listen to every song on an album, usually I’ll skip a song or two, but not on Queen of the Murder Scene.

I love every song they've ever put out, from Escape the Mind, through XXI Century Blood and Queen of the Murder Scene. Not only do I listen to QOTMS through daily, I listen to all their songs through daily. Multiple times; yesterday, I believe, I listened to ETM, XXICB, and QOTMS all the way through beginning-to-end 4 times... lmao. I've known of TW for like only 2 months and 1 day, but I'm still listening and realizing new things about their music daily! :P

In my review of the album on Amazon I said that most albums have a couple of excellent songs, a couple of fillers, and the rest are somewhere in between, but not Queen of the Murder Scene. There isn't a bit of filler or "the band gets to rest some during this song" or anything like that. It's a full-throttle ride all the way.

Yes, "Stalker", being "the" transitional song, grows on a person both musically and because of it's being the formal bridge into the queen's head, where she stays for the remainder of the story. The rest of the album is a nice ride through various genres. Some of The Warning's very best songs are coming up. I say that judging from comments and reactions I've seen. My personal favorite is coming but, it didn't ovetwhelm me the first time through. Nice reaction. Thank you so much for opting to go through this album. This is where the story told in this album starts to turn. There are fairly clear hints that the main character has “issues” in the songs leading up to this, but Stalker is where her emotional state starts to officially go off the rails. Musically speaking, Dany’s vocals are remarkable. She inhabits this character.

Paul my initial reaction was much the same as yours. The first time I heard it was on laptop speakers and the feedback effect at the beginning sounded horrendous. I thought Dany's vocals were just "off". I know she is a fantastic singer, and it just didn't sound like what she is capable of. That was the FIRST listen.
After a couple of go-rounds, and listening to it in context on a proper sound system, it started fitting, and sounded right. She is "acting" with her voice and letting the insanity come out in her tones. Once I understood that point, I began to love the song as much as the rest of them.

    • @jbartyparty7398
      @jbartyparty7398 5 лет назад +8

Amen sir, spot on! Dany is purposefully letting her voice waver and go off kilter (for lack of a better phrase) to clue the listener in on what is happening within the crazy mind of our "stalker." I think it's brilliant because it echoes the dissonant sounding tones of the intro and it becomes a binding thread that holds it together (not that anything is being held together here for our Crimson Queen!).

The first time I heard this song it made me think of Phantom of the Opera. I could see the guitar riff you liked being played by a bank of cellos. Paulina has described this as a sort of creepy love song.
This is a rare Warning performance where the studio version is better then the live, in my opinion.

  • @kevinmcfarlane2752

Paul, when you eventually get to the end and then go back and play the whole album in one sitting each song will then seem different and then better than they might initially have seemed. That was my experience anyway. I find it’s always the case that some songs grab you immediately and others take time and then some of those others end up being your favourites!

This is definitely one of the songs you have to listen to more than once to really get what's going on in her mind (the Crimson Queen). She has the *WORST* of bad obsessions and is determined to have this 'guy', no matter what the cost. It took about 3 or 4 times of listening to this to realize just how brilliantly it was put together! You can hear the vocals a lot better on the album version, but the live version has 10x the punch! Great reaction.. thanks Paul!😉👍 As of now, I can't find one song on this album that I dislike, not just because I'm hooked on this band, but for the sheer amount of skill in writing, and the work they put into it to get it right. Can't wait to see what their 3rd album might bring to the table.🤘😍🤘

I am enjoying your journey through QOTMS, The Warning's most excellent album. Being that you are British, I would assume you have heard of Chicken Shack and Stan Webb the guitarist. Chicken Shack gave start to Christine Perfect who later becme Christy McVie of Fleetwood Mac.
In 1972 I purchased Imagination Lady by Chicken Shack, to this day I think it is the best rock trio blues album ever! If you will listen to "Poor Boy" the driving groove of the bassist and the double-kicking rhythm of the drummer is enough to get your heart pumping. When you add Stan Webb's moaning, squealing guitar and his soulful and bluesy vocals, you might possibly see what I am talking about. Keep in mind it is 1972!

To me this is an excellent song but the dynamics don't fully show through in this recording of the live performance. Definitely very Muse-esque in structure. The transitions somehow lacked visceral punch, despite being excellent. So, my take is this is a song where a few subtle tweaks, particularly to make the transitions sharper and more impactful, would have a big effect on the impact of the song.
