Wow great video, I walked the Frances in May 2022, and I am booked to leave for the Coastal way in September 2023. The video was very well done, when people ask me what the Camino is like I am going to direct them to this video. Your demonstration of the anticipation, the excitement of the new towns, people and experiences, the pain and finally the comfort in the final shot knowing your personal journey was part of something much greater than just an adventure was just how I felt when I reached Santiago. I had that sense of accomplishment mixed with a somber realization that it was over, and I felt the connection to the pilgrims of the past. Thanks again for a great video. Peace on all your journeys.
Thanks so much Chuck for the kind feedback. I'm pleased I captured the same emotion you remembered after reaching Santiago, that's so cool. It is certainly a strange feeling reaching the end. Good luck on the coastal route, great time to go and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as something quite different than the Frances route. All the best!
@@ckunert1 We completed the Coastal in late September-early October 2023. Everyone said it would be cold and rainy on the coast. We brought cold weather gear and rain gear that we never used, not even once. I completed the Frances from SJPP to SDC in May of 2022. The coastal was very different from the Frances but the scenery is so beautiful. I didn't have an itinerary, so I just put this together using the Buen Camino App which is what I used on both of my Caminos. Some of the lodging is named different in google maps so hopefully not too confusing. Good luck, happy travels and most of all Bom Camino. Day 7 A Ramallosa Pazo De Pias Monastery (it was ok but nothing remarkable) Day 8 Vigo (Vigo Pilgrams hostel large place with almost 100 beds it was ok we tried to stay at the R 4 Hostel, they have an awesome wax stamp, but they were full by the time we got there) Day 9 Arcade a Filla do Mar (Nice pool room was cramped with probably 12 people in a small room very close bunks) Day 10 A Cancela (Barro Pilgrims Hostel Wow it was very fun, but it is not a nice facility Pedro is the guy running it and he is very interesting this was one of our fond memories that gave us some adventure I would like to stay again just not every night) Day 11 Aldea de O Pino (Valga Pilgrims Hostel this is a large hostel but no food on premise and the only communal showers I have seen on any Camino) Day 12 A Picarana (Pension/Hostel Glorioso No food on premise it was clean and ok) Day 13 Santiago Nest Style Santiago (a little pricey but really good breakfast)
Hi Joseph, Many thanks for posting your wonderful video. I had the pleasure of doing the coastal Camino with my son last May, and as you quiet rightly say, everyone has to experience it in their own way, everyone has their own Camino. Your camera work, editing, music and naration are a credit to you,and I wish you many more adventures and Gods blessing in all that you undertake. Buen Camino.
This is a beautiful video. However, what you said at the end about the Cathedral is there because Abraham left his tent was so profound! Loved it! I’m glad you had a great experience overall. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Man, thank you for inspiring me to do more of what I want to be doing in this life. Seeing you pull this off, and making this beautiful video with nothing but your iPhone, is truly amazing and refreshing. Subscribing to you channel was the easiest decision I've made in a while and look forward to more and to follow your journey. Keep it my man.

So well done, Joseph! Thank you for the fantastic shots and scenery along the Coastal Route (Senda Litoral). I plan to go at the beginning of October. So looking forward to the adventure. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing" Helen Keller. Cheers
You HAVE to do it yourself! Beautiful video Joseph. My journey was more Spiritual than I could have imagined. Leon a Santiago - Sept/Oct 2023. El Camino is calling me back, Siempre Camino
Only a Kiwi would want to see a snake! Thanks Joseph - I'll try to track you down soon for some clarification on how far you went along the Littoral, before the Coastal and how the water section fits. We're planning now for Sep/Oct24
Hopefully I will see one next time! Absolutely, happy to help. From memory I stuck to the coast as much as possible, at times walking along the beach. It's really up to you how long you keep the Litoral route
This is a great video Joseph, hard to believe this is your first, you are a natural :) and great choices in music. I loved your wrap up at the end in front of the cathedral, from the heart. Great video sharing your experience and thoughts. "The best things in life are simple," that's exactly what you learn from the Portuguese. Another thing you learn is their beer, wine, and Port are fantastic!
Great video! You brought back so many wonderful memories - my husband and I walked the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon in 2018 and my favourite section was the coastal route from Porto. Your thoughts that you shared along the way have so much truth in them. The best one: "If you want to know what it feels like to complete the Camino, then you have to do it yourself" ... what a great way to end your video! Best wishes from South Africa.
Ohhh what a wonderful video!! I walked three caminos (twice frances, once del norte) and you made me want to go on the forth one! Thank you for filming and sharing. By the way the quality of visual and sound is spot on, would never have guessed it was shot only with an iPhone. Peace❤

Hi, enjoyed watching this, thanks for sharing. I'm walking the part from Vigo to Santiago next month, i walked a 3 month camino this spring/summer, starting from my home in Belgium and i'm looking forward to being back in Galicia 🙂
Hey Joseph! Great video i walked it in 2o21;would walk it again! Quality and content is excellent really captures the beauty of both the Coastal and Espiritual i love the sea. Stayed in the Monastery in Armentiera the blessing was emotional. Hope you make more Camino journeys and vids!!! I start the Frances from Leon to Muxia early Sept; adventures keep you sane😀 At 70 i still need more, sitting still is fatal🤣 Don't let fears stop your heart from moving is a great mantra. Buen Camino Woody
Nice! Thanks a lot for the kind encouragement. That must have been an incredible experience staying in the Monastery, I would love try that next time! Awesome that you still have more hiking planned. Never stop adventuring. Good luck and Buen Camino
Great video! Really well done and inspirational. I am doing a combination of the Coastal and Central, with the Spiritual Variant in Sept/Oct 2023. I can't wait! Thanks for sharing your experience.
hey, ur video is very very nice. I ve just walked the camino like you a week and a half ago...the images you recorded resemble mine as well, but it s so nice to see, that you encountered and have different memories from the route. we were also by boat 2 times, the board crossing, like u, and from Vilanova de Arouso to Padron and saw the Cross Route on the water, very special. U are right summer is packed, no free albergues, full with people on the beach, but still beautiful places to walk through! Have a bon camino in life!
@@josephrasmussen4463 yes, I know... The boat trip was really nice, we paid 30 Euros, but it was worth it, cause they made a guided boat tour. They explained us about the oyster harvesting, about the crosses on the islands, about the traditions etc.
It is my plan to walk the Portuguese Coastal Route in a few months: in May 2024. I am looking forward to walk my pelgrimage, my camino. Thank you for this beautiful, inspiring footage.
Gorgeous video , one of the best I have watched. Love your low key approach, not all shouty and full of tips, explanations etc. just honest walking , going with the flow and taking it all in . I think you have inspired me to have a go too 😊, Thanks .
Thanks for this video. It found me a few days after I finished the Portuguese Camino myself. The words and thoughts you expressed resonate with my aftertaste. It was nice to see again the places I passed and remember the moments, tastes and people I met along the way. Great job mate, thanks again for this video.
Kia Ora Joseph, very good video . Your wrap-up at the end particularly resonated. My partner and I have done three Camino’s and we will be walking the Coastal Route in July 2024. Good to see another Ngati Tumatauenga pilgrim😊
What a great video. My cousin and I go to Porto on the first of october. Then we are going to make a start on the camino. We only have a week, next year we Come back to finish it
Wonderful video! I'll be doing the Portuguese route and spiritual variant in September with a group of women. I'm definitely sharing your video. Thanks! 😊
I walked the camino del norte in May 2022 in 36 days...800 km. In September I'm off to do the Portuguese camino from the coast. Thanks for this great video guys.
Awsome awsome awsome your vid has helped me decide on my 1st camino to do next year... some hostels some wild camping .... keep up the excellent work n if you ever hike around the nc500 in Scotland.... I'd be happy to pass on the blessing
Some great scenic photography, imho a little more info on towns or villages that marked your overnight stops would have helped to follow. I am interested in the Spiritual Camino section, something I will look for when I walk in Sept/Oct 2024. Buen Camino, oh and thanks for posting.
Fair point. Getting the right amount of footage and trying to balance inspiration vs information was a challenge. Hope you enjoyed it. You will love the spiritual variant, the footage I got from that section wasn't clear but I would highly recommend it
Fantastic video. Off to do my first one next April - just not sure which one yet. Might go big and do the Frances. I’m 58, just retired….and have the time. And I hate you for the Interstellar bit - I was in pieces. 🤣 I’m not religious in any way, but I get your faith. It’s impressive. I’m not that adventurous so it’s time to step out of the box and do something a bit out there. So thank you for the inspiration. Good luck my friend. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. It was wonderful to watch. In which month did you go? We are thinking about December but not sure what winter in Portugal is like. Best of luck for all your new adventures
That was primo Joseph! Great filmimg and music...I'd like to do a Camino walk and have just started thinking of the Portugese route as it's shorter in time and on the coast, so your vid was good for that, thanks. Fellow kiwi!, Nice one bro!👍
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it bro. Definitely go for it, couldn't recommend it enough. My main advice would be to stick along the coast as much as you can, don't rush it and be sure to add the spiritual variant. Good luck mate
This is a very informative video. I am planning on doing the Camino late February- early March. I only have 10 days. I am in between the Costal from Porto, the Primitivo (I love mountains), and the Frances from Leon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Good time of year to go in my opinion. I haven't done the others, but I can highly recommend this one. 10 days is quite a push from Porto, but it should be possible
Excellent film. What month did you walk? I walked this route in March 22 and only had one wet day. I also walked onto Fisterra and to Cape Finisterre which greatly exceeded my expectations.
Great video ! Thank you for the 'real ness ' of it ! Can you tell me approx what % of it is uphill ? ( I am considering doing the route but I have hip issues that uphill aggravates .. if I do it I would do it really slowly ( short distances per day ) I would love your estimation please .. thanks again for the great video !
Hi Laura, overall it is a remarkably flat walk. It sticks close to the coast, so there aren't many hills. There is quite a steep climb if you take the Spiritual Variant though, so that would be the only one I would consider leaving out if you're worried about hills. From memory the whole walk was less than 5% up hill.
One great video Joseph! love your casual chat style and all on an iPhone ....... did you pre book any accommodation or just call ahead on the days? Can I ask what month you travelled in?? Inspiring journey mate we are hoping to do in May/June 2025 from Melbourne Australia (Neighbors!). Now looking back a year on as good as you thought???? Cheers
Thank you! Definitely recommend them. I used to dismiss them as no one seems to use them in New Zealand. However I borrowed my girlfriend's and it made a massive difference in the end, at one point towards the end I was leaning on them a lot with sore feet.
In July I'm going to see Loreena Mckennit in Vigo. After I bought the ticket, I learned that I will be ON El Camino.... so here I go! In considering the Spiritual Route... do you have any details to share about this route?
Great plan, you will love it. Vigo grew on me towards the end, I found a great coffee shop and also learned some history there about U-boats. Yes: 1. For the spiritual route I would try and book the boat in advance (I walked it though). 2. Next time I would consider staying in Armenteira Monastery 3. There's two restaurants in Armenteira, had some good food there. 4. There's a river with mills when you walk from Armenteira to Villanova - I did it in the early morning and it was beautiful (not really shown in my video). Buen camino!
Joseph that was a really enjoyable video, thank you!! I did the Camino Frances last year which I would highly recommend. I’m now hoping to do the Portuguese Coastal route either later this year or next. Can I ask, what month did you walk, as the weather looked amazing.
Thanks Wendy! Glad you enjoyed it. Wow, I would love to do the Frances. Good idea - I did this in late January / early February. Definitely was blessed with the weather. If you can catch a good break in the winter weather, go for it
@@josephrasmussen4463 The Camino Frances is definitely a must. I did it middle May and it was perfect. Not too busy, but a tad hot due to an unusual heatwave for that time of year. I'm walking the part from Vigo to Santiago next month, i walked a 3 month camino this spring/summer, starting from my home in Belgium and i'm looking forward to being back in Galicia 🙂
@@nancycompagnie6500 happy you enjoyed it. Wow you walked all the way from Belgium? That’s epic
@@josephrasmussen4463 it really was 🙂
Hey Joseph! Great video i walked it in 2o21;would walk it again! Quality and content is excellent really captures the beauty of both the Coastal and Espiritual i love the sea.
Stayed in the Monastery in Armentiera the blessing was emotional.
Hope you make more Camino journeys and vids!!!
I start the Frances from Leon to Muxia early Sept; adventures keep you sane😀
At 70 i still need more, sitting still is fatal🤣
Don't let fears stop your heart from moving is a great mantra.
Thanks a lot Kathy! That sounds like a great plan, I have heard that both ways are great. All the best
hey, ur video is very very nice.
Thanks a lot for the kind comment. It's so cool that you walked it; did you take the boat at the spiritual route? All the best!
@@josephrasmussen4463 yes, we took the boat. You didn't, I think.
@@OlgaTorok Nice. No I walked it. Huge day
@@josephrasmussen4463 yes, I know... The boat trip was really nice, we paid 30 Euros, but it was worth it, cause they made a guided boat tour. They explained us about the oyster harvesting, about the crosses on the islands, about the traditions etc.
Man that was brilliant. I’m getting on now in ages. But I think I can still do it. Thanks
Never too old. People of all ages walking it. Just take your time, have a wine along the way, there's no rush!
It is my plan to walk the Portuguese Coastal Route in a few months: in May 2024. I am looking forward to walk my pelgrimage, my camino. Thank you for this beautiful, inspiring footage.
I think it's a good time to walk it, I imagine it will be a bit warmer but not too crowded
Awesome video! I appreciated your final comment about Abraham and the reminder to do our work! Very inspiring!
Happy you enjoyed it. Yes, he's a faithful inspiration to us all
What a fabulous video! Thank you so much for sharing it xx
Thanks a lot!
Your comments about Abraham (Abram when called to adventure) are wonderful! Thank you for sharing everything!
So happy it inspired you, all Glory to God!
dear Joseh, I loved the energy felt during your walking days, what month of the year were you?
Loved it. This was early Jan / late Feb
Very beautifully done video. Thank you for sharing.
@@smisplacedalaskan1762 thanks a lot :)
Gorgeous video , one of the best I have watched. Love your low key approach, not all shouty and full of tips, explanations etc. just honest walking , going with the flow and taking it all in . I think you have inspired me to have a go too 😊, Thanks .
Thanks a lot for the encouraging feedback. I'm happy that it has inspired you to have a go!
Thanks for this video. It found me a few days after I finished the Portuguese Camino myself. The words and thoughts you expressed resonate with my aftertaste. It was nice to see again the places I passed and remember the moments, tastes and people I met along the way. Great job mate, thanks again for this video.
Thanks for the feedback mate, I’m thrilled you enjoyed it and could relive those moments again for a bit. All the best
Wow. That transition at 20:44 was absolutely beautiful
Thanks a lot! I'm happy somebody noticed that one haha
@@josephrasmussen4463 yes! Also the fact that you were playing the song Collie Man! haha great sound score!
Kia Ora Joseph, very good video . Your wrap-up at the end particularly resonated. My partner and I have done three Camino’s and we will be walking the Coastal Route in July 2024. Good to see another Ngati Tumatauenga pilgrim😊
Kia Ora mate, stoked you enjoyed it. Awesome, still repping, a bit more relaxing than Waiouru ay! Hahaha
What a truly beautiful film. Utterly inspiring and uplifting. PLEASE make more!!!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Will do for sure!
Amazing and astounding story and video, I’m going May 2025. Thank you, really felt your sincere love for the adventure. Peace

What a great video. My cousin and I go to Porto on the first of october. Then we are going to make a start on the camino. We only have a week, next year we Come back to finish it
Nice one! Good plan I hope you enjoy it.
Loved that song Layers on Layers. Never heard it before! Great video as well.
Yes Fink is a great artist! The song felt like a good fit there

Thanks John!
I walked the camino del norte in May 2022 in 36 days...800 km. In September I'm off to do the Portuguese camino from the coast. Thanks for this great video guys.
Wow, that's huge! Great to hear you're doing the coast and good luck

Awsome awsome awsome your vid has helped me decide on my 1st camino to do next year... some hostels some wild camping .... keep up the excellent work n if you ever hike around the nc500 in Scotland.... I'd be happy to pass on the blessing
So glad to hear it! You will love it I'm sure, such a great walk. Be sure to add the Spiritual variant. Scotland is on my list, cheers

@@mountainman3463 good choice! God wills it
Beautiful journey. I did the exact same last year 2022. Loved every moment if it. Can’t wait to go back.
Nice, maybe the Camino del Norte this time?
Some great scenic photography, imho a little more info on towns or villages that marked your overnight stops would have helped to follow. I am interested in the Spiritual Camino section, something I will look for when I walk in Sept/Oct 2024. Buen Camino, oh and thanks for posting.
Fair point. Getting the right amount of footage and trying to balance inspiration vs information was a challenge. Hope you enjoyed it. You will love the spiritual variant, the footage I got from that section wasn't clear but I would highly recommend it
Appreciate your spiritual inspiration
Thanks!
Thanks a lot Tony, kind words. It's brilliant that you are going to give it a go, take your time. You'll love it. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your coastal journey. Its been v informative.
Thanks a lot, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the awesome video!

Thank you. It was wonderful to watch. In which month did you go? We are thinking about December but not sure what winter in Portugal is like. Best of luck for all your new adventures
@@belindaventer-vandermerwe1566 thanks a lot! Late Jan / early feb. I did get a lucky break with the weather. Buen camino!
Amazing video! Good job, a lovely trip. Now I wanna do it too :)
Do it!!
@@josephrasmussen4463 Cheers, will heed that advice! 😉
@@josephrasmussen4463 I truly appreciate your reply! Thanks again!!
Could you share where that eclectic cafe was?! I would love to stop there along my route
Of course. Found it: Lampião Caffé
Excellent film. What month did you walk? I walked this route in March 22 and only had one wet day. I also walked onto Fisterra and to Cape Finisterre which greatly exceeded my expectations.
Thanks a lot Tim! I walked late January / early February. Wow that would have been incredible, I wish I had more time to do that part
Very nice video
Thanks for the encouragement
Thank you so much for your reply !!@@josephrasmussen4463
Loved the video I am hoping to do the camino next year.. What month was this?
@@greeno6064 do it! It was end of January / beginning feb

Cheers
Great video
Pleased you enjoyed it!
Awesome joe. Do you really need walking sticks? I had them through Camino Frances but rather not bring on this route.
Thank you! Definitely recommend them. I used to dismiss them as no one seems to use them in New Zealand. However I borrowed my girlfriend's and it made a massive difference in the end, at one point towards the end I was leaning on them a lot with sore feet.
What date did you leave Porto.
I'm planning on a Mid Feb departure.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, I left on 27th January. Mid Feb sounds great, hope you get some nice weather!
@@josephrasmussen4463 Thanks. 🤞
Awesome video!! Thank you! What month did you go? 🎉❤
Thanks a lot! Late Jan / early Feb. I had a blessed break in the weather
Really enjoyed watching, Thank you! Question please. What month did you do the Camino?
happy to hear it! I walked it end of Jan / early Feb
Wow you did have good weather for Jan/Feb, but I think as the Caminos are now getting busier and busier, Jan/Feb is a good time to go.
I’ll keep an eye out for more of your videos, you’re a natural 👌👍
Great video! When had you walked the Coastal Route?
I walked Camino Frances in May/June 2022. I intent to walk Caminho Português, but still deciding the Interior or the Coastal Route.
Hi, I walked this one in late Jan/Feb, I definitely had a lucky stretch of weather. If you can't decide, perhaps you could start walking the coastal route and switch to the central route somewhere near Caminha?
Enjoyed it a lot. What time of year exactly? Would like to do it at that time with cool fine weather.
Thanks a lot! This was Late January/early February. Highly recommend winter, less humidity and more availability in hostels etc.
Where was your boat ride from and to?
From Caminha (Portugal) crossing the water into Spain (Xacobeo transfer)
Love it!!!
Thanks a lot!
