One of my favorites. I still quote this. I’ve thought it was something Will Ferrell wrote himself or had the most part in writing, and just wrote the stupidest thing he could. It has his name all over it. They just didn’t realize how funny is was gonna be. Especially the Dr. Poop doing the robot part. That’s when Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell lose it. it seems that Molly loses it first. She is still a sucker for his humor, like when they do the cheesy host characters. This sketch could’ve easily went into the cut for time or in the basket. Glad it didn’t. Thank God.. Yikes... That was-a rough.
Fun fact: The reason they are all cracking up is they weren't expecting Tim Meadows to walk through the door. In the dress rehearsal it was a different actor playing Dr. Poop. That was the first time seeing Meadows do the bit and the unexpectedness of it all caused them to lose it.
Christopher Edmiston so many false versions of the story. Will Farrell wrote the sketch (perhaps not exclusively). It’s true that they weren’t expecting Dr Poop to come out and do what he did .. which was “the robot” dance. Then, Molly Shannon turns to Will Farrell while breaking character, laughing. Will Farrell says “I couldn’t think of anything else”.. while also breaking.. because that wasn’t in the lines where he says “I couldn’t think of anything else”. He wrote it. It was an odd sketch that turned funnier as time went on and is now more of a cult classic.
It seems like some of them missed/forgot their lines and Ferrell had to improvise on the spot because from there on the things went really awkwardly strange.
WE CAN HEAR YOU! cecily strong picked up the torch that molly shannon left behind legendary cast legendary scene everyone involved here went so far whats next for our SNL crew?

This is my fav SNL skit of all time. Makes no sense, the audience is confused. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another skit in the ballpark of this mayhem
There was a sketch years ago with Norm McDonald, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, Adam Sandler that bombed but the boys did not care and went for broke it was hilarious..
Definitely hilarious but i also love the hot tub lovers skit with Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore when will Ferrell keeps making him break character. Oh and the dress rehearsal for stewart has cancer "the California's" lol
This is peak absurdist Will Ferrell and I love every second of it. The whole thing is completely insane and almost certainly wouldn't work if anyone else attempted it.
Fun fact: part of the reason why this sketch is so weird is that Will Ferrell was incredibly sick with the flu while they were filming (you can see him sweating throughout) which gave the sketch an even stranger vibe than the already weird script had
As adolescents, my kids had this skit nailed down. We used to do it on road trips. Each of us has our own favorite line. Mine: "Doctor, can I have Tuesday off for a modeling job?"
"A palomino, yes they're gorgeous! Beautiful golden fur!" My brother and I used to say that when we would talk to each other on the phone. RIP bro miss you.
I feel like the Doctor Poop part of this really shows how great Chris Parnell was on this show. It is so odd and strange that both even Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon (two of the most talent to ever be on SNL) can't hold it together, but Chris Parnell doesn't miss a beat. All around perfect sketch
I love that him for not breaking. I know people love when they break but they don't realize it's actually unprofessional in comedy like this and is a crutch because they know even if nothing is funny people laugh at it. Not that I hate breaking, I'm glad they're having fun, just I recognize a real professional for holding it together and Chris parnell is one!
One thing I love here is it's so hard to tell if the cast was reading off cards or a script hidden somewhere or they just improvised as they went. That's why I love SNL from the late 90s to early 2000s the most. Competition with Madtv brought the best!
I think the idea of a Dr. Poop telling a mother there's nothing they could do for her son and then doing the robot and charging them $5,000, and her laughing in response would make me crack up. Parnell sticking through it is an unsung hero.
MAN, when Dr Steven poop walks in and says " Am sorry there,s absolutely nothing i can do for your son, but i can do the robot" that will be 5'000 dollars good day to you both, i completely burst into fits of laughter so unexpected and random but damn funny if it can make Will Ferrell break character you know that its comedy gold
Will Ferrel broke character because he insulted him. He said "sorry I couldn't get anything good." He was referring to him sucking at the robot, a little behind the scenes joke that made the cast laugh.
I feel like this is a sketch where you can't possibly have ONE favorite part or line. Absolute gold, in the weirdest way. Every minute just one-ups the last.
"A palamino! Beautiful, golden fur." That is making me laugh so much for some reason, omfg dying. "Your father no longer has what we'd call a human face." * dies *

The funniest thing about this sketch, to me, is that Will said SOOO many funny lines but broke when he said "we misplaced your baby" lol How did he make it through the call with Beverly and not through that line?!😂
This was one of the most bats%#t crazy sketches of all time and one of my personal faves. Just lunacy, sheer lunacy. Almost came off as totally unscripted.
He says their names when they first walk into his office when he shakes their hands, then later he says, who the hell are you people? lol. crazy sketch, but it fits somehow, like it is some weird dream.
“What? No! Old Chester! A Palomino? Why they’re beautiful! Yes, they’re gorgeous! Beautiful, golden fur! Why yes, I have all the time in the world!” More than once, I have interrupted a bad conversation to reenact this.
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes. I use vondruke to this day. If I remember correctly everyone in the cast had a really nasty flu and they were kind of crazy.
I agree with Johnny Blaze and VIPKID Vault. Breaking character is weak performance. Fallon, I guess, is talented as Tonight Show host, but he blooped on SNL [intentionally, I suppose].
"Look, I couldn't think of anything good..."
Honesty is always best
(whew) thank GOD...
yIKES...
that was ROUGH
“Your father may never again have what we call a human face.”
“What? We were here about our baby!?”
Hilarious 😆
“…… Who are you people??”
That crack me up
this is the oddest sketch in SNL history. It seems completely improvised. I love it
This was the first great sketch of the 2000s
the part with dr. poop was completely unexpected to the rest of the cast. they didnt know an actual person was going to be a dr. poop
I think it’s improv cause they pause and it’s random

There’s some older ones from the early 1990s. But this is super funny
The script would read like this:
"Doctor. Parents. Baby. Make something up, I don't care."
Wish all SNL sketches were this easy to write.
Fun fact: The reason they are all cracking up is they weren't expecting Tim Meadows to walk through the door. In the dress rehearsal it was a different actor playing Dr. Poop. That was the first time seeing Meadows do the bit and the unexpectedness of it all caused them to lose it.

One of the best sketches ever on SNL. Pure absurdism. Parnell really brings the whole thing together.
The only one that didn't break.
that was totally a monty python skit! so funny
I like how they show and hint it will be an absurd one straight off the bat
It sucked.
He always does well playing the Straight Man
His sincere enthusiasm for Palominos and their beautiful golden fur lifts my spirits every time.
Old Chester

4:58 Will Ferrell so dedicated to not breaking he's literally crying holding back laughing lol...
He was also sick at the point you can see him visibly sweating.
I really like the sketches that just have a bunch of weird shit and no punchline. They're less memorable but I laugh harder

"we misplaced your baby"
just the break mid-sentence is what makes this so funny for me
Beverly sounds like a lovely friend. The kind of friend with whom you can always be open and honest. A friend who will tell you about horses.
Son of a Vondruke, this has got to be one of the best SNL sketches ever!
"I'm steven poop, i can't do anything for your baby but I can do the robot (robot dance) that'll be 5,000 dollars" lmao
It's DR. Stephen Poop, Bengi.
This is just a few prescriptions shy of a modern medicine abstract.

A realistic consultation with a doctor.
@RainbowDreams30 terrifying, isn’t it?
Easily one of the most random, stupid, makes no sense, but HILARIOUS skits of all time. One of my favorites for sure.
Chris Parnell is the cinnamon of comedy. An underrated ingredient that makes things awesome
Also he is the voice of Jerry from Rick and Morty.
Cinnamon is not underrated. Everyone knows how awesome it is. Maybe he's more like parsely?
Amazing complimentary character. Underrated
Loved him in Anchorman
lol.....cinnamon
This is peak absurdist Will Ferrell and I love every second of it. The whole thing is completely insane and almost certainly wouldn't work if anyone else attempted it.
Chris Parnell!!! Doesn't even break!
Jack them boys from Memphis tn are real stand up guys. It’s all the barbecue that keeps him in character
Jack
Chris Parnell is legend, Merv the perv is genius
According to a book about SNL, he's the only cast member in SNL history who never broke.
You Vondrook!
They called him the "Iceman" because he never broke character
Fun fact: part of the reason why this sketch is so weird is that Will Ferrell was incredibly sick with the flu while they were filming (you can see him sweating throughout) which gave the sketch an even stranger vibe than the already weird script had

Parnell really held that sketch together by the end by keeping a very straight face while Molly and Will were laughing

$5,000 for a quick robot dance. This guy has great potential working in American medicine.
I like to think this skit inspired all of Anchorman.
There's some foreshadowing here. Just the off the cuff, absurd, irreverent schtuff.
makes me wonder if adam mckay wrote it...
Exactly what I was thinking. Dr. Beaman is a prototype of Ron Burgundy.
Totally Ron Burgundy

I love how desperately Shannon and Will are trying to hold it together after Tim Meadows does his thing.

How did Parnell manage to keep in character the whole time?
yes.. Parnell
9Kualalumpur because it's Chris Parnell
I wonder the same with Archer.
Didnt know Chris Parnell was an archer. Wonder what weight his bow is?
🤦 he was IN Archer... Not that he IS AN Archer. Oy.
When Molly Shannon broke, it made Will Ferrell break. It's like dominos.
I think the idea of a Dr. Poop telling a mother there's nothing they could do for her son and then doing the robot and charging them $5,000, and her laughing in response would make me crack up. Parnell sticking through it is an unsung hero.

Parnell the real MVP though. This skit needed a straight man with so much absurdity.
easily the best SNL skit ever. I'm honestly surprised it's on youtube but I'll roll with it.
To this day, I do silly things in front of people and say, "Thank you, that will be $5,000"
Unlikely
chris parnell has to be appreciated here for never breaking....true professional unlike 95% of the cast at this time thrown into Ferrell sketches
I feel when he says "I'm sorry I couldn't think of anything good" after Dr. Poop leaves, he means for the sketch and that is why they start laughing.
Lmao love molly shannon she couldnt help from laughing!
this looks like an episode from rick and mortys inter dimensional cable
