When the cap slips.. Clean your filter of real good wipe of any oil then rap some electrical tap where the filter is going to grab on. Install cap.. Done
That type of oil filter wrench is only good for installing filters, which you do need for applications where you really can't get your hand around the filter good (like a recessed oil filter). They type of wrench you need to remove a filter from the bottom would be like the Plews 70-715.
I've bought 4-5 different kinds and none of them work. I always end up using big pliers on them. I have the Fram FM101 and it hasn't worked for me on anything I've tried yet either. I haven't tried the sandy mud but I might try it!
@@woodsman8992 The Penzoil one has 14 flutes on the inside and works fine. Also the filter he is using doesn't have any ridges to grab onto like a Fram.
honestly, didnt think it would work but the mud trick was awesome!! thank you man seriously 🙌
I'm glad it helped!
that same thing happened to me that tip with the mud is awesome
Penzoil brand cap wrench has 14 flutes for a better grip. Also, the oil filter brand will vary on how many ridges it has on the grip surface.
next time try 1 or maybe 2 if needed vinyl or latex gloves around the filter then place you filter cap on. Should get enough grip.
Great idea!

Hah! I feel like this knowledge is in both the "duh" category and the "I can't believe nobody told me this" category.
Amazing tip bo I spent an hour lastnight trying to get it off and rab out of daylight Lol ima try that first thing this morning
Did it work? I was going nuts trying to figure it out wet sand or gritty dirt worked like magic fo rme.
Hi from England. Just going out now to buy one of these.
That cat is a twin for mine. Any idea what the breed is?

Socket ? I think you meant ratchet lol
It's a 3/8" ratchet.
Not a socket.
Either way, a hammer is still a hammer.
