You have helped tremendously to all of us DIYer’s. I’m sure it’s a pain in the ass but no one could ever explain how much help this is. Thanks bud.
There's a way to do this without lifting the engine assuming you are replacing the head bolts. Pull the far right head bolt upwards(drivers side) until it hits the firewall. Ziptie the base of the bolt so it stays in place. Cut the bolt off with a multitool(metal blade). Leave yourself enough bolt to grab, pull it up again, ziptie the base again, cut it again. The bolt and head come right out. To put the head back in, separate the rocker carrier from the head, put the head on the block without the rocker carrier. The rocker carrier is light enough you can take a single head stud and hold it in the far right position as you put the rocker carrier back onto the head. Also, if your truck doesn't have AC like mine, just remove the heater box on the passenger side. It's worth the 30-60 minutes to remove it and makes working on that side a million times easier. This guy really knows his stuff and this video helped tremendously. Thought I'd add a tip so you don't have to mess with the engine mounts.

I just ordered new arp studs delete kit with oil cooler how long does it take u to get the heads off i will just add 6 hours to about how long it will take me
Did you get it done? I'm thinking about it. I've done tons of heads on gas engines but these 6.0s have me wondering if it's worth it.
It took the Dr. 47:35. An extra 6-8 hours outta be plenty
can you do a video on how to do the EGR delete I want to do the job myself and really don't know what all needs to come off I'm assuming all the top end stuff to get to the back of the motor but a video would be cool
if you look up ear install on xdp there is a detailed set of instructions. its pretty easy, I'm 16 and did it no problem.
Watch EGR replacement video on youtube on powerstrokehelp.com channel. You can order an EGR cooler that is welded shut on both ends on ebay, unless you are a decent welder, for about 80 bucks. The pucks are shit. Stay away from the pucks
Great video - it's been super helpful with my 6-0 operation. Had boilover in the de-gas so naturally went for the egr tube. Of course it was bone dry so proceeded to the head gaskets... Bit of a project. Did you by chance go to school in San Jose for truck mechanics?
Did doing the head gaskets fix your boil-over problem. I currently have the same issue and am in the middle of doing head gaskets right now
@@brendanbouressa8688 I’m in the
Middle of it now
@@jmilko917 how did it go? Did you have to remove the motor mount to get the studs out on the passenger side?
@@patrickwelch620 yes I did. Also to get a single one out right next to firewall on driver side. All went good. Took my time. Frustrating yeah but doable.
@@jmilko917 thanks for letting me know. Big help. Seriously. Just got to the head bolts a few mins ago before closing up shop for the night. Headed back at it tomorrow to get the heads out.
Be well!
I trust myself to take it down inframe , i bet much harder putting it together inframe being gaskets have to be in perfect and such tight quarters..
im at 210k on my 05 do you see much wire harness failure and if you do what one? I try to keep mine off pinch points and areas that rub. thanks
Did you remove the engine mount?
Do I need to take out the heads completely if I just want to bulletproof the head studs?
I had the same thought. Obviously you wouldn’t be replacing the gaskets.
Thanks for the video I’m currently doing this job with limited tools I hope I don’t need a chain to take that head out lol I’m try to just man handle it out haha
How did that work out for you? I’m curious
Andrew Rel yea it worked no chain needed end up taking out the whole air box thou
Good I’m about to do the same thing.
Did you follow along with the video to do yours? Was it helpful?
Good day Josh. I would like to do a rebuilding project with my two teenage sons. If I get an engine from the junkyard, how do I go about identifying a 2005 - 2007 6.0 Powerstroke? The youngest of my boys is a die hard Diesel Ford dude.
Niko 05-07 have the ICP sensor screws into front of RH valve cover. 03-04 will have the IPR valve and ICP sensor off the drivers rear center of high pressure oil pump cover in valley between heads
jimmy aber Hey Jimmy, thank you very much for that info.
How many dowel pins are there per side 4?? Two in block two in head??
great vid, but those are factory head BOLTS not studs.I appreciate the video though. wish I knew that when I worked at another guy's shop. I used to put off head jobs until I could lift the cab
S reeves this is removing factory heads with factory bolts. It's the same if your doing arp studs. My other RUclips video shows install for arp studs with cab on.
Do you have link to the ARP studs with the cab on?
nice really helped thanks doctor
I've read where many have done this on 03's but can you do it on a 2006 with out removing the cab?
dlynes yes I can pull heads on any powerstroke 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 without pulling the cab. Vans need to pull motor.
I have an 06 that I just lost the head gasket(s) on. Will I have to jack the motor in both directions to remove the heads?
Is there a best kit to buy for this?
Man my 6.0 is puking coolant from the dgas bottle not sure why. Maybe thermostat? Or head gasket?
What is your website? Real good video. Thank you
Great video with awesome tips
so when you go to install them are you going to have the manifolds on them to or do you leave them off
Did you have to unbolt the transmission to tilt the engine?
nelson moreno no
Thanks for the quick response brother. Great videos, thanks for your help and your teachings. Keep up the great work.
I have a few bent pushrods my truck is already studed can I remove one Bolt off the stud at a time to remove just the Rockers hassembly p and then torque back down and then go to the next one
if you have bent pushrods then you need to take the heads off and evaluate whats going on.. your pistons are probably hitting the valves. when your studs were put in originally, did the heads get machined?
FULLY LIT. im not sure its a used motor i bought
pull the heads,, you might have cracked pistons.
Thanks man.
I have a 06 that I have had a lot of work done to 290000miles on it 200 after work all computer system hp oil pump egr ipr radiator now I get it back from shop 1yr and 6 returns later might add I had to bring it home from shop not running and me and my son would get it running take it back I was determined they were going to finish the job that I already paid them for now.i got it back and It is losing coolant out of exhaust pipe no oil in water no water in oil radiator bubble real bad wher started no matter if engine is jot or cold I figure head gasket or egr cooler what is the best way to tell witch one or do you think it is something else I am 63 and would appreciate your advise thank you Jeff
Cracked egr cooler will definitely put water in the exhaust.
@@powerstrokecustomsllc1942 I did not want to replace the head gaskets if I didn't have to what is the best way to see which is bad or both
Can anyone recommend a good head gasket kit for a 2006 Ford 6.0? My son bought a truck that needs the head gasket replaced and I am not great with diesel engines. Thank you
@6.0Doctor will this method work with head studs as well?
Yea you just zip tie the studs on top of the head for they don’t slide out
What is the name and or part number on the flat tool you use to pull line off the stand pipe
Tracy Mawer stc tool. Body clip removal tool works too. You can find those at harbor freight
Where can I get one of those tools to disconnect the oil line? You said harbor freight but not sure what it’s called? Please help
Carlos Padilla the tool I use from harbor freight is a body clip pry bar.
I was an Acura/Honda tech for 34 years before leaving the industry. I came across a 6.0 4WD with blown headgaskets for sale and was thinking of buying and repairing it. After less than 10 minutes I've seen enough to know I don't want to put myself through this BS:.
Bless you my child, you must be a sadist to embrace this horrible design.
Can I do a cab on head gasket install on a 06 6.0?
