As a senior master tech it's refreshing to see guys at a dealer ship doing work the right way and not just pushing shit through as fast as they can for a bigger check. Wish the dealer I was at had more guys like this,I might of stayed.
This is probably the best cab removal video on YT. Thanks . Rebuilding my 2004½ 6.0 with 374k miles . People talk crap, but this engine, when proper updates are made, it's a 100% stud of a diesel engine.
I dont know what amazes me more here, A-Rod's attention to detail and his work ethic or the fact that this guy got a premium care warranty on an 06 Powerstroke. Great explanation of the cab removal man, if a customer ever asks why it costs so much to do head gaskets, you can always point them to the video and they can see just how much work pulling a cab is. Mind you watching guys take cabs off in less that an hour and a half is always something else, one thing I will say though Ford sure made it easy to get the 6.7 cabs off compared to the 6.4's and 6.0's. An engineer finally listened maybe? who knows but still makes life a little easier.
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod also the fact you’d had that cab off before helps with things coming apart ok. Where you located? Because when my Ford needs work I’d love you to do it!
Just seeing how other people pull cabs. I got a job at a shop, and have been pulling cabs for almost a year, About 2 trucks a week. I’ve done 3 all by myself. Rebuild and all. Not bad for a 17 year old. Haha
Nice for sure but FYI, give the dude props on his video before you say look at me! 17 and doing this work is legit no disrespect. Age will bring you respect, keep grinding just thank others before you point at you.
Thanks ARod. Good video. Got my cab back on, and putting mine back together now, so bouncing off your video to make sure I get everything back together. I forgot to have my AC Vac'd until it was too late, so just removed the AC compressor and hung it securely; that was a "fun time had by all," but it worked. Thanks again for an informative video. Some people like to tell their life story before getting to the point; you didn't waste anyone's time on this one.
Great video. I had it on 1.5 speed. Quick and to the point! I always thought removing the cab was silly, but really this process doesn't seem too bad (if you have a lift). Also, I'm sure it's easy as hell to work on the engine that way too.
It honestly looks like at 12:48 that you didn't push the steering shaft up and into the column.....GREAT video and thanks for posting. Explained very well. One thing worth mentioning is once the cab is ready to lift, strap down the steering wheel so it doesn't turn and mess up the clock spring. Thanks again.
doing cab off on same truck and year as this one and cab off on an older cadillac deville northstar for re-seal at the same time right next to each other. loving the mechanic life right now.
Well, it's interesting to see removing the cab. I've done several with the cab on. It's not that big of a deal. Got to be a little creative around the heater box, but otherwise no big deal.
👍nice break-down. BTW I watched at 2x speed and still had no problem with understanding the process ... btw thanks for showing where the ground straps were hidden... I always end up having to replace them if noone reminds me..... why engineers like to hide them is still un-fathomable to me....
Beautiful. Looks easy enough. I will use this for reference if I have to yoink a cab off. I 'm thinking the experienced guys at your shop can get that cab off in 2-3 hours.
Thanks for taking the time to add this video! I'm lifting the cab off my 2003 6.0 and this has been a tremendous help. A little side note - I'm not certain if this cab is the same setup (I'm working on a extended cab) but I had a wire harness plug I pulled from the cab to the frame right by the transfer case that wasnt in the video. Also random fact, this video was posted on my birthday. Thanks again, cheers!
I've found it easier on the 6.0 and 7.3 trucks to remove the front 2 seats instead of the rear seat. Much quicker and you're still able to access the middle cab bolt with an impact. I also remove the "twangs" on the rubber flap directly below the radiator since they're easier to get at and the rubber piece will just hang with the frame. Never removed the entire brake system like that, typically remove the lines coming off the module and plug everything off so there aren't leaks and a lot of air doesn't get in the system. Pretty cool to see how people do cab lifts differently. Keep up the vids!!!
Yeah I used to do the brakes like that too until I saw somebody do it the way I just did yeah there is a few dudes in the comments telling me to leave the back seat in and do it just like you told me I'll try that next time thanks for watching
Thank you for posting this. Just bought an 03 and a parts 07 f550 that no one wants to work on. I'm about to school myself on these trucks...with your help it seems. Thank you from Canada 🇨🇦 "eh" ahaha!
I'm only 17 and own a 05 f350. But a bigger turbo in it by myself and was thinking about pulling cab to repaint my frame as it's pretty rusty and this looks like something I can tackle thanks👍
I don’t have a lift at work therefore I have to do everything through the top, I enjoy watching you guys doing it the right way, kinda jealous really lol
While you're in there, gently remove the wiring harness (labeling wires as you go) then pull the 6.0L after disconnecting the motor mounts and bellhousing. After this, install the freshly rebuild 5.9L Cummins 12 valve........
Jerry Brandt stock 12 valve makes about 160hp at the crank. They can be turned up obviously. Cummins make great torque that is undeniable but for high horsepower v8s take the straight six any day
There are plenty of i6 making 1000 hp with stock internals. Anyways diesels are more for torque ! After all their for pulling and the i6 will always be king of the highway thanks to all the big trucks out there? V8 do better when fed gas!! I agree with you they are more radical and twist faster. But again I have a Kenworth with only 400 hp but around 2000 ft lb . A v engine don't have the geometry to achieve the stroke of any inline engine ever!!! Look it up.

Just got mine in the air and thanks to your vid, nothing was pulled apart lol. Awesome explanation, only thing not in the vid was the running board light plugs but that's easy enough! Thanks again!
Aaron buddy. I thought 6.0L diesels were old news for us dealership techs. Wow, it's been ages since I've needed to remove a cab on any 6.0 F-Series. I see you remove the HCU and master cylinder as one unit. I used to just disconnect the three HCU brake lines at the HCU and duct tape the holes while raising the cab with the HCU and master attached. I want to point out, the front two cab nuts are 18mm, not 19mm. If I recall correctly, the driver side cab fasteners were 24mm while passenger side were 21mm. I always wondered why Ford did that. If I may be so bold as to offer an alternative serving suggestion regarding the middle cab fasteners? Try removing all the fasteners for the front seats, and just lift the center section of the carpet just enough so that you can easily access that grommet and fastener with the air weapon of your choice. This way, you won't have deal with the BS of having to remove that awkward and heavy rear bench seat through tight quarters and risk scratching up the rear door panels in the process. Not to mention that stupid black plastic utility tray with the three 8mm bolts that one of them (I forgot which exact one) always seems to have a tendency to want to cross thread during removal.
Great video! You made it look so much simpler than the last one I watched! I was just wondering where you are located and how much it cost to do studs, head gaskets, EGR Delete? Is there anyway to replace the body bushings without having to remove the rear seat? I'm thinking I may should wait until she needs motor work then replace them 🤔
Well done on the video, I've been working on 6.0 6.4 and some 6.7 and never pulled a cab on a 6.0. Useally just pull the motor through the front. Is the 6.0 the only one that needs the rear seat removed? I haven't had to do that on the 6.4 or the 6.7 ford. Heck did a 07 6.6 cab off and it was shitty. Again, great video.
This makes me not want to buy a power stroke. Was looking at one and a friend told me about having to pull the cab to do any engine work. Think I’ll look for a 5.0 still. Is pulling the cab a common thing across trucks now?
YES! We pull cabs on F150s too! U can do ANY engine work without removing the cab. What if it had a rack or boom that couldn't be moved over the cab..how ya gonna remove the cab then???? One question, How far can you lift the cab without disconnecting everything? I'm doing a turbo on my 7.3 and I'd love some extra space to help me access and connect that up pipe v-band clamp. I got it apart ok, but reconnecting it seems like it's going to be a real B!@#$! Would lifting the cab a bit even help?
for a experienced shade tree mechanic without a lift it looks to me like removing the fenders would allow a ton of room. Does it make sense to do that?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod well looks like I'm in for a treat. I do plan on taking out the evaporator core. Time isn't a issue for me. Haven't bought the truck yet. 300k and a likely head gasket issue, idk the seller wants 4k and to me it seems much
What other repairs require cab removal? I'm looking into buying an 05 F350 (6.0), which has already had the EGR deleted and head studs done. Also has new injectors.
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks for proving my point. It would be great to have 1 video cover ALL the points of this procedure. Instead I have to look at 5 different videos from 5 different people and try and piece it all together.
Hey bro how much is it to remove the cab? And can a bigger cab be mounted on to a 250 chasis? Right now I have a regular two door cab on, wanna replace it with a crew 4 door cab.
I wish I could find a shop that would pull the cab for me and let me come in and put do some upgrades it be so much easier to change out the y pipe and put a regulated return on make sure my down pipe isn't leaking and do a couple other things. I have a leak either under my turbo or behind it I made a boost test plug and I can hear air coming out from behind or under the turbo. I think my why pipe or down pipe clamp isn't on flush I have noticed my EGTs go up pretty quick even when im not pulling anything everytime I get up to about 55mph my EGT Guage is reading 6 ot higher it gets almost into the yellow I also noticed the other day when I was pulling a small motorcycle trailer with my duke 1290r on it that the EGTs were getting almost into the yellow and when my truck downshift and my boost reached 13psi the EGTs dropped back down pretty quick I also noticed my turbo feels like its struggling to get up to 15psi or higher I have to really get on the gas and my sct was set on performance not sure if that is normal I forgot to switch it to a tow tune
Awesome Vid. Did not know this was such an intense process. What would be the best year of Powerstroke for working on at home without a lift??? I am loving Ford right now and hope to get my first diesel in the next month or so....And I try to do everything myself......Is there any way to do this without a lift??? Pleeeeease lemme know!
No u can lift the cab without a hoist. The job i am doin can be done with the cab on but is a PAIN IN THE ASS. Cab removal preferred. 05-07 6.0's are good. NO 6.4's any 6.7 except 11.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I'm up in Canada, I found an 04' F350 6.0 short box dually, which is what I want. 190k miles, around $9000usd. What should I look for when I go check it out??? You mentioned 05-07....Would an 04 be that much different?

Try removing all the fasteners for the front seats, and just lift the center section of the carpet just enough so that you can easily access that grommet and fastener with the air weapon of your choice. @@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod well looks like I'm in for a treat. I do plan on taking out the evaporator core. Time isn't a issue for me. Haven't bought the truck yet. 300k and a likely head gasket issue, idk the seller wants 4k and to me it seems much
BTW thanks for the reply
Great vid as usual.
What other repairs require cab removal? I'm looking into buying an 05 F350 (6.0), which has already had the EGR deleted and head studs done. Also has new injectors.
Then ur set. Oil leaks, head gaskets r my top ones
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks!
On an 450 RC, can you do all this and then put a CC back on? What are the limitations besides bodybolt mounts
Pretty much ud need the right frame.....🤷♂️
When did you take the front bolts out by the radiator? Why didn't you show the acctual bolt removal?
Cuz they're not bolts but nuts
@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks for proving my point. It would be great to have 1 video cover ALL the points of this procedure. Instead I have to look at 5 different videos from 5 different people and try and piece it all together.
How similar is the process to a 6.0 excursion?
That looks like a lot of work that is going to cost a lot!
Good job on the video,l guess the extra money spent on warranty paid for it self big time. Thanks for the entertainment
No problem, glad you enjoyed!
Great great video. Keep up great work. Quick question have you seen any or a lot of steering boxes leaking on the 6.7 pickups
Naw man i haven't. Have you?
Well done
Thank u sir
Great video..
Thanks.
Would thr same rules apply if you were swapping to a different cab?
Huh
What if your just replacing the body bushing? Do I still need to disconnect the same things?
Not everything...ull have enough slack to do what u need
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks for the quick reply I'm actually doing right now I'm starting with body bolts
if you look closely at the engine it says international on it that means its an navistar vt365
👍👍👍
Hey bro how much is it to remove the cab? And can a bigger cab be mounted on to a 250 chasis? Right now I have a regular two door cab on, wanna replace it with a crew 4 door cab.
No dice, you are not gonna have the cab mounts on the frame to do so. Be about 6-700 bucks for cab removal labor....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod we are dealing with frames a support can be welded
Very Good!..
I would never do this myself but great video.
really great video!
Thanks jimmmmmy jammmmmm
Thanks 4 sharing
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod LOL!
How many billable hours to remove and reinstall the cab?
Great video, I'm so thankful I don't own a Ford, thanks
MFB Alaska It really isn't that bad. Saves time actually. I'm sure labor time on a duramax is about the same.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks a bunch, that narrows my search in a good way!
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I'm up in Canada, I found an 04' F350 6.0 short box dually, which is what I want. 190k miles, around $9000usd. What should I look for when I go check it out??? You mentioned 05-07....Would an 04 be that much different?
Yes it wld. You need to check tje build date and make sure its an 04 truck and not a carry over engine from 03. See it all the time
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod awesome, thx
Nice job brother really informative. Really cool that you had been in it before...have you serviced this one all it’s life?
Yepp, until original owner traded it in.
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod Thats awesome man, keep up the good work keep that 6.0 ticking for many more years to come she’s a very good looking truck.
You don't have to disconnect any electrical from inside the cab?
Lolol, for what????
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod because I'm dumb and for some reason it didn't click that all the wiring that isn't unhooked is on the body lol.
I've gotta do head gaskets and an hpop
U gravy licker
