Just like to share pro and cons using this camera too: Pro: - Fast wide open aperture - get to go camera - Wireless remote - High res img - decent battery life - slightly water-resistant Cons: - Delete button too dangerous (u can accidentally delete all) - No extra MMC slot - no charging port & Mic port Overall my comment this cam not workhorse camera for sport or action... it rather act like typical Leica M need to slow down and enjoy the moment while being minimalist... good vid mate!
Fully agree with you Cyber Prince. It's defintely not a workhorse camera for sport or action. It's intented to street and travel in my opinion :). However I have never had any accidents with delete button :)
It is indeed a great camera but in the right hands also. A good team. I know that working for clients can drain the passion from your art and I am glad that this little camera brought it back to you. This is probably the best quality of your Q2😉. You've managed to delight us with some gorgeous images from this camera so far and I am confident that this is just the beginning. Keep up the great work 👏👏👏
Thank a lot Alexandru. I am glad that you understand my frustrations regarding 'routine work' and that it slowly kills creativity. Let's hope it's just the beginning, yeah :). Thanks again for watching and for your feedback ! :)
So, the Q2 made you a better photographer since you got back to your photography. Good video! I've the Q and very satisfied as I use it as a press photographer. Keep on rolling.
I've had my Q2 for a almost a month now. Yea it's super expensive but it's a Leica, lol. I have a GRIII as well and as a street photographer, I do miss the snap focus but at the end of the day I want the full frame 47mp 😁
Hi Tito ! I had the Gr3 but sold it when I bought the Q2. I wanted to have just ONE street photography camera with me all the time. But I will probably get the GR4 when it comes out. I loved the Gr3 :)
@@anils.rkumar6551 well there will be maybe the GR4 next year ? To be honest, I miss mine as well but I just got a FUJI XE-4 and it's pretty nice to be honest :)
i also use a q2 and a ricoh gr3 - big little machine - (both with 28mm fixed lens). I am in tune with your thoughts and experience in relation to leica. you didn't talk about performance in high iso. this is my only point about the machine. too many megapixels making noise :) the q2 monochrome performs incomparably better in this respect. I never tried the video and I only use evf (which is extraordinary). but what impresses me most about q2, in addition to the quality of the files, is the pleasure it gives to photographing. it's all so simple :) all good octavian
Hi there Isaque ! :) Great minds think alike again: i used to own a GR3 myself as well but finally sold it and kinda missed it. And you are right, I haven't talked about the camera in low light performance because simply I didn't use it that much in such conditions BUT I am working on a new video night time photogrpahy and I will share my thoughts afterwards :) I agree with the EVF :). Thank you again for watching and for your feedback !
@@OctavianCarare In fact, it is your slow mo shot that did it for me. That, and a shot I saw someone else post from the Q2 Monochrom where they were shooting snow in their front yard. Just amazing! Slow mo will be the very first thing I'll try. thanks!
Good evening Octavian, I like your continued enthusiasm. Thank you for your thoughts about reigniting the passionate side of photography in you. Well that angle of view may be fine for you, not so much for me. I tend to be alternating between 35 and 50 (analog 135 format). However I certainly vouch for the simplicity of operation and form as a way to get in the flow of what's around you. That's what comes beautifully through your videos. As a remark , I am experimenting currently with operating in Digital with a 85mm angle of view after decluttering. I had experienced a couple of years with just that in the 90s. The discipline of just one lens is refreshing and yes, rekindle passion. This is not gimmick, this is true. No fiddling with a zoom, just that angle to work the scene. Looking forward your next video Patrick
Hi Patrick ! Thank you for watching :). You really need to do the talking in my videos, I like your way it words. You are expressing with ease the things I struggle to communicate :) I fully agree with you regarding one lens discipline :). One day you will curate my exposition I hope hahah. Nice to have your feedback and your thoughts !
Great summary, thank you for sharing Octavian. And by the way, many of your photos can easily be award winning, in spite of what you say :-) . I enjoy the Q2 very much too, but my biggest issue with it is the touch-screen functionality of the LCD screen. I am left-eye dominant (so shooting with my left eye) and I wear glasses too. So my nose (not a small nose, mind you... :-) ) is constantly "touching" the LCD screen when I am composing. Which triggers the focus size adjustment and disables the autofocus. It's maddening and it's infuriating and at first I thought the camera had a problem. I have found no way in the menus to disable the "touch" functionality of the real LCD, which causes me to constantly watch my nose instead of the scene infront of me... I know it sounds silly, but it's a real problem. And I can't compose using the LCD because I can't see that close with my glasses (I also need reading glasses for close-up). Any ideas on disabling the touch functionality of the LCD? Or at least removing the focus rectangle size adjustment from the LCD touch trigger? I searched various forums online to no avail. It seems Leica never considered that somebody may not want the touch functionality of the LCD enabled. Or that there are left-eye dominant people on the planet for that matter.... :-)
Hi Manos ! Thanks a lot for your kind words and thank you for your feedback :). I don't know many people that are left-eye dominant to be honest and I have never quite asked myself how it works when photography but now that I think of it doesn't seems that easy :). I wear glasses as well but when photographing I use contact lenses. Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to disable the focus size adjustement neither :( I fully understand, it's not silly but real annoying. Maybe they will fix this with a new firmware update. Or maybe address the issue to Leica ? If you find a solution I am really interested in the answer so feel free to keep me posted. P.S. I just can't photograph with glasses, I feel like they are getting in my way :)
@@OctavianCarare thanks for the understanding Octavian :-) yes glasses are annoying, not to mention photographing while wearing glasses AND wearing a mask because of covid19 (so glasses get fogged up constantly, especially in cold, wet climates...) AND trying to use your left eye but NOT your nose! A nightmare... But still worth the effort. :-) Keep up the good work!
@@OctavianCarare I'm not totally sure why i did it but i did indeed buy a Q2 when it came out.. and right after that i purchased the Q2M almost a year later. I don't know much about the Q..
I enjoy your photography and your videos. I too am a Q2 shooter but in sea/landscapes and recording our fishing fleet. The Q2 provides me the freedom and flexibility without the bulk and weight of other camera systems. Also, I like the digital zoom allowing me to see pictures within pictures. I’m going to try more astrophotography as the milky way season starts. Lots to do, if only Mother Nature cooperates......
Thank a lot Waltsd ! Can't wait to see that astrophotography with the Q2. Personally I photograph more people and street but one weekend I will dedicated to walking out in the nature and taking some landscape shots. I need that :)
i've tried astro with this camera, you just can't shoot at ISO 3200 or 6400 above 20 seconds. rubbish. This should be the perfect camera for the milky way, with the 1.7 lens
I like this video very much. Thanks for sharing your views. A minor point of disagreement, however. You call the Q2 a point and shoot camera. I own one and like it very much. The manual controls make this very similar to my M6 in terms of how I use it. I never considered my M6 a point and shoot. You can use the Q2 in an auto mode but that doesn't make it a point and shoot - only a more flexible camera.
Hi Alan ! Thanks a lot :) and thank you for watching and you are right, it's not a point and shoot camera 'per se'. I was trying more to underline the effortlessness of using this camera and the fact that it has no interchangable lens. It gives you a lot of manual control indeed, the essential thing that separtes it from a point and shoot camera :). Thanks for your feedback :)
I got the Q2 last November and share the same experience as you do. It's a lovely small camera, capable of great results. I find it doesn't need lots of editing as other cameras do. My only gripe is the sometimes inconsistent AF, especially if you use it in continuous to shoot a moving subject, or the face AF which is very frequently out of focus. I also find it strange you can't setup the top customisable dial to adjust the ISO so you can have a completely manual mode, also the back thumb button can be assigned to only few functions. The iPhone-camera connection is very unreliable either for transferring or geotagging photos. I'd love to see the new perspective correction in the Q2, which Leica added recently to their M series via FW update.
Hi Stefan ! I hope you are satisfied with the Q2. I haven't used it that much in continous mode to be honest but from my experience with the face AF it was pretty good. However I don't use AF face detection for my street photography, only when I do portraits (but as I said in some previous videos if I use face AF and open wide at 1.7 or 2 sometimes the focus will be on nose and not on the eyes). I have assigned the button on the wheel to be my ISO settings. I don't use the CAMERA app personally.
The video you have shot at 4.30 mins is just wow it’s so artistic and cinematic and so pure - it’s a moment frozen for the audience when you go back with the dancer standing still in the final shot - great video and great post - definitely one more reason to consider the Q2
Beautiful work. The video of the dancer, excellent. I also have a Leica Q2, although I use it little. Please, can you tell me at how many frames you recorded the video of the dancer - Nakako_sato_7? The leica Q2 at 4K maximum that records is at 30fps. Thanks for your videos and your time. All the best. P.S. When you come to Spain (Cádiz or Seville) I invite you to a coffee.
Thank you Octavian. Very informative today. And about yr work......: you are too humble, they are great pictures. (have you considered to buy the monochrome version?)
Hi there Aart B and thank you for watching and for your kind words. I purchased my Q2 before the Q2 Mono was announced. I would probably still go for the Q2 but the idea of having a camera that shoots only black and white is very appealing, I admit :)
Great video my man ✊🏼. I agree with everything you’ve said. I also purchased the Q2 roughly 6 months ago and love it. It has also reignited my love for photography. My only issue soo far has been autofocus performance of moving objects in lower light; at night for example. I have yet to figure out the best settings that would enable me to nail focus of non stationary subjects in lower light without cranking up the iso. What settings have you found best works for you in this regard?
Hi there DGinola ! Thanks ! To be honest I haven't used it much in low light (I made just one video night time street photography) BUT I am planning to do one more very soon. It's not the fastest autofocus camera in low light situations, that's for sure. Regarding the ISO I went up to maximum 6400 and it's usable but I will test it more these days. Are you shooting wide open in these low light situations ?
Hi Octavian! This is a lovely 6 months review video. I'm planning to purchase a Leica camera in the near future for street photography and am presently torn between the Q2 and the SL2-S. What are your thoughts on the SL2-S for street photography? Also, you mentioned you used two batteries for the Leica Q2. Are they Leica batteries? Lastly, which gimbal did you use for the video you shot on the Q2? Thank you!
Hi there! Thanks for the feedback! If you don't have a problem using a fixed lens the Leica Q2 is definitely a better street photography camera. I used once a SL2S with a 50 mm and it's just too big and obtrusive. It's like using a DSLR for street photography. Personally, for me it doesn't work. I have two original batteries from Leica, yes. If you are not a hard shooter u probably get through the day with one in good weather conditions (probably not if it's cold where you live). I used a zhiyun weebil s v1 (not sure about exact name). Try to test a SL2-S and a Leica Q2 and see what works best for you. Hope it helps !
I had the Q2. Amazing quality pictures but it wasn't perfect. The AF couldn't track well, and my camera would freeze up sometimes. I can see the camera has a hard time saving on those large files. Since it cost 5,500, I don't think it was worth it. I know spending that much money on a Canon and Sony, you get the best quality and performance of their cameras. Yes, I probably criticize with, "It's a Leica, you're supposed to slow down your photography!" I just don't think it's worth to spend that much to take "slow photography." I would recommend buying the original Leica Q since it's the right price for the value. Q2 is a beautiful camera but it's not made for me. Since then, I've been using fujifilm and sony cameras. Capture One has helped me edit photos as beautiful as the Leica images.
Hi Mike ! I am not saying that the Q2 is perfect. Never had any issues with the Q2 so far and to be honest the Af works pretty good on my Q2, for my street photography. Did you use the burst mode ? Maybe it was having a hard time writing the images because of the memory card? For sure it is overpriced, agree with you. I agree with you regarding the Q but for me it was more interesting to buy a new Q2 to be honest. I love fuji cameras as well and I am considering buying one, probably the XE4 for the portability. Personally I have never used Capture One but everybody is talking only positive things about it so I will maybe give it a try. Thanks a lot for watching and for your words.
Hi Tim! Actually I am trying to get my hands (to rent for a day) a Fuji x100V or the new XE4 but with no luck so far. I made a street photography video with the X-pro 2 and loved the film simulations but I need to do a in depth comparison. I know the XT4 is a brilliant camera. I am not sure it's worth it, depends on you if you wanna go with a fixed lens.
The camera has too much pixels for low light tbh. I would prefer something like 32MP but I wouldn't mind owning one lol. Maybe Q3S someday. I live 80km away from Wetzlar. It would be great to pick one up over there some day. In the meantime I'll keep saving up some €€€.
Well I am glad you mention that :) I will go out and shoot some night time street photography again. To be honest I never went above 6400 iso as it has a fast lens, but now it's a good way to test it. Maybe go for the Q ? it's better in low light :)
@@OctavianCarare pretty sure the camera performs quite well in low light but honestly there is no need (at least for me) for 47MP unless you crop much or print large. I really like what Leica did with the SL2S with less pixels. The Q is too old for me. Waiting for a Q3. Currently I'm very happy with my x100v!
You, my friend, are a wise man :). I was thinking of the x100v as well. The Q series was so far a real success for Leica and I am sure the waiting for the Q3 will worth it 😁
@@OctavianCarare lol thanks the x100v is a great camera you would also enjoy much imo! Lets wait and pick up a Q3 sometime in the future. Until then happy shooting!
The Q2 Mono was released after I bought the Q2. Yeah, the colours look pretty nice. It's really a hard choice between the Q2 and the Q2Mono :) Thanks for your feedback Randolph )
Hi Jim! Actually yes, at that time I was thinking of getting a second hand Q or getting the brand new Q2, went for the latter as it was more interesting financially wise to buy a new camera, it had better sealing, larger sensor and new batteries. But the Q is a brilliant camera as well :)
My biggest complaint with this camera is the missed shots! If they make the focusing better it would be amazing! I’m a better photographer with this system because the camera gets out of the way and lets me create!
Hi Dwayne ! Thanks for you comment! When does it miss focus and what kind of photography are you doing ? I find the autofocus pretty good on my Q2. Feel free to send me some shots with missed focus here if you want : octavian@octaviancarare.com
To spend $5000 for a camera to "carry it around all day" isn't my cup of tea unless I have loads of $$. It seems the author of the video is trying hard to justify his G.A.S. I like they way he mentioned how he bought the camera for travel photography during a pandemic, LOL. Also, putting the disclaimer to say that its expensive and will not make someone a better photographer doesn't make sense when despite knowing this, you go out and buy one anyways. Photos are awesome, but certain aspects of what the author says doesn't seem to be honest to me.
Hello! I respect your opinion and you made some good points but it's not entirely true :). I don't have a load of money and I bought it using a leasing system (which as a professional part of my job had some fiscal benefits). I won't lie to you I love cameras (camera gear as well). I currently own 4 cameras (2 of them are my working tools and I have about 8 lenses for these cameras - in my professional life I owned almost all Canon cameras for work purpose) and yes I love the Q2 (which I probably never sell) and recently bought a Fuji xe4 second hand. I am sucker for fuji film simulations and retro design. So yes, I love cameras (call it GAS). I ordered the camera before the hard mesures were being considered and I HONESTLY wanted to cancel it.. I don regret the decision of not cancelling it 😁. It didn't made ma better photographer but I just made me go out and shoot for me (not for clients) and I am really happy about this. Thank you for complimenting my pictures. As previously said, I respect your thoughts and feedback makes improve my photos/videos.
It’s not the camera, it is your talent what makes the gear shine. Every video is a new source of inspiration, great job!

Overall my comment this cam not workhorse camera for sport or action... it rather act like typical Leica M need to slow down and enjoy the moment while being minimalist... good vid mate!
Fully agree with you Cyber Prince. It's defintely not a workhorse camera for sport or action. It's intented to street and travel in my opinion :). However I have never had any accidents with delete button :)

Thanka a lot Helmut ⭐🤩
Awesome, thank you! It made me photograph more for me so I am really pleased with that :) It's a great feeling !
Nice pictures, nice video and very good revue. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot mate! Glad you liked it 😁
Excellent photography and that video is stunning 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks again :)
@@OctavianCarare miss my GR3,ultimate pocket camera
@@anils.rkumar6551 well there will be maybe the GR4 next year ? To be honest, I miss mine as well but I just got a FUJI XE-4 and it's pretty nice to be honest :)
i also use a q2 and a ricoh gr3 - big little machine - (both with 28mm fixed lens). I am in tune with your thoughts and experience in relation to leica.
you didn't talk about performance in high iso. this is my only point about the machine. too many megapixels making noise :) the q2 monochrome performs incomparably better in this respect.
I never tried the video and I only use evf (which is extraordinary).
but what impresses me most about q2, in addition to the quality of the files, is the pleasure it gives to photographing. it's all so simple :)
all good octavian
Hi there Isaque ! :) Great minds think alike again: i used to own a GR3 myself as well but finally sold it and kinda missed it. And you are right, I haven't talked about the camera in low light performance because simply I didn't use it that much in such conditions BUT I am working on a new video night time photogrpahy and I will share my thoughts afterwards :) I agree with the EVF :). Thank you again for watching and for your feedback !
@@OctavianCarare eh eh eh. I'm curious to see this video and hear your thoughts about low light performance ;) all the best Octavian
Thanks ! Keep up the good work 🤩
@@OctavianCarare you too 😉
I've never shot video with my Q2, but damn... maybe I have to! Your video was awesome and that lens sure does appear to render well.
Thanks a lot ! Yeah, the quality of the video is pretty impressive, the slow mo looks excellent as well :) give it a try :)
@@OctavianCarare In fact, it is your slow mo shot that did it for me. That, and a shot I saw someone else post from the Q2 Monochrom where they were shooting snow in their front yard. Just amazing! Slow mo will be the very first thing I'll try. thanks!
If u shoot indoors just take in consideration the light flickering 😁
@@OctavianCarare Thanks for that tip! I'm not a video guy, so I'll definitely have to figure that out ( as well as editing!).
@@notoriousbdp just play and go with the flow :)
Good evening Octavian,
I like your continued enthusiasm.
Looking forward your next video
Patrick
Hi Patrick ! Thank you for watching :). You really need to do the talking in my videos, I like your way it words. You are expressing with ease the things I struggle to communicate :) I fully agree with you regarding one lens discipline :). One day you will curate my exposition I hope hahah. Nice to have your feedback and your thoughts !
@@OctavianCarare Many thanks, happy to help :) !
I love my Q twins!! I can't believe the amount of chatter this Camera is STILL generatating!! Makes me feel that i did the right thing.
Q twins ? Q2 and Q2M ? or Q2 and Q ? or Q2m and Q ? :D It's a brilliant little camera and Leica nailed it to be honest :)
Interested to learn about your camera settings and post processing even though you describe this as point & shoot experience. Cheers!
Well I started workshops in Belgium if you want to learn more :)
😅”nothing fancy”😅. It was beautifully shot! Amazing! You’re super talented. Thanks for your the review.
Thanks a lot Carlos ! Means a lot :) Glad you liked the video :)
Lovely images and review. I'm currently on the fence between the Q2 or M10/R.
Thank you Joshua :)
I like how you think. I'm going to buy one
Thanks a lot ! :)
The video you have shot at 4.30 mins is just wow it’s so artistic and cinematic and so pure - it’s a moment frozen for the audience when you go back with the dancer standing still in the final shot - great video and great post - definitely one more reason to consider the Q2
Thanks a lot ! Glad you liked it Dibirath :) appreciate it :)
Excellent résumé! Dans 1 an...50k followers 🤙
Merci Vincent ! C'est bien de rêver 😁
Hello Salvador ! It was at 120 frames slow mo at 1080 if I am not wrong. I will definetly let you know if I am in the south of Spain, yes ! Gracias !

Hi great video! What gimbal did you use for video?
Hi Berno again, it was the zhiyun weebill s
@@OctavianCarare Thanks! I’m looking for one now but it’s not compatible? So for stability fine but you can’t control the focus with the gimbal?
@@bernovanderwal I have used the manual focus , no it’s not compatible
Thank you! 🙂
Great video. Thanks
Thanks a lot Hisham !

:)
How is its colour compared to Fujifilm’s colour and film simulation. I have the XT4 and the 23 1.4. Is it worth getting the Leica Q2?
Thank you for the thoughtful video! Love your image samples and opinions :)
Thanks for watching and for the feedback Minka!

Did you consider the Q?
Hi Jim! Actually yes, at that time I was thinking of getting a second hand Q or getting the brand new Q2, went for the latter as it was more interesting financially wise to buy a new camera, it had better sealing, larger sensor and new batteries. But the Q is a brilliant camera as well :)
Like any tool, it'll never make the user a better whatever, carpenter, painter, photographer!
Hi Cardigan, well that's a long chat but some tools can improve or ease the craftmanship, right ? Thanks for watching ! :)
“Not award winning shots”. All your shots looked pretty good nevertheless.
Thaks mate! Appreciate it!
