I was vacationing where Lulu was attacked and left the day it happened. I saw several sharks cruising by 20 feet from the shoreline throughout the week. I was simply amazed that they would hunt that close to the beach.
Definitely a Bull. We have very murky water on the TX coast, mainly due to the Mississippi River dump carried by the currents, but lots of other rivers and creeks dumping in. While there are many species of sharks along our coast, Bulls and Tigers (mostly Bulls) are the scariest IMO. In that video of the Bull and the duck, I’m pretty sure that’s another shark (or two) right there in the water.
Back in the 90s I was bit while surfing figure 8 Island North carolina. It hit me after I wiped out on a wave and I was retrieving my surfboard in very thick seafoam. There was a hurricane spinning off the coast that was stationary for a few days generating huge waves, it was epic. The whole day I surfed the ocean was churned up and there were mullet everywhere with the smell of fish in the air while seeing thousands of mullet as your duck diving into a wave. When the shark hit me it felt like being hit with a baseball bat with nails in it. Lucky for me it hit all shin bone and knee as it would have easily torn my left calf off if it got into some flesh.
I believe more than the scientific community wants to admit. I follow shark happens and some of these 12 to 20 ft monsters can grab you quick and leave
It’s possible it’s the same bull shark from last month in FL with a similar pattern, since it was never caught. 3 attacks on the same day. Similar in size based on the videos. Sharks are territorial and not spoken about enough
Well, I wouldn’t peg them as smart ether. However given that they are apex predators, I imagine they can tell a difference between their typical prey and other things in their environment.
Tabitha seems like a sweet kid. Glad she's OK and still smiling. Sadly, I doubt the same could be said for the lady who had her calf muscle removed. For the rest of her life she'll likely be severely impeded by that horrific injury. Once again, thanks Kevin for bringing us the definitive information on these recent cases.
Thanks for the accuracy. I've been searching everywhere for info, and the media reports were garbage. The attacks are at my local beach. I surf there, and theres LOTS of on shore fishing.
So are we going to call multiple attacks “medium rare” now or even 4 attacks “well done” attacks? Because I feel the description of rare is not quite appropriate for this circumstance 😂
A bull shark rammed me in the Gulf knocking me up in the air and I came down on my head. It cut my leg to the bone below my knee on the front and left a painful knot on the bone of my right knee. You will never see me in the ocean again.
@@The_VariantExactly, and one thing not said is that these attacks often occur because women are menstruating. It’s that blood that sharks “smell/taste” from miles away, even one drop. Hence, the attacks are primarily on females to their stomachs and lower extremities. I'm unsure why experts don't take this opportunity to educate and inform people. I guess it’s a weird topic, and people would instead chalk it up as “random” and “rare” seemingly mindless attacks, which is not necessarily valid.
This gives me horrible anxiety! The water looks so inviting and the waves such fun. However, I have not been in the sea for 65 years and only swim in pools. My family had a beach condo and from the upper floor, when the water was clear, you could see them. We all only swam in the pool.
I think it’s one of them these Days enter at your own risk I personally would never step foot in the ocean for a swim it’s their home end of the day humans are invading their space lol
I used to be an avid snorkeler and had been doing so for years in various locations around the world. The last several years of many reported shark attacks have made me wary and I doubt that I will do it again. Besides, so many of the reefs are dead or severely damaged.
You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. Fatal shark attacks are pretty rare and usually only happen to surfers who look like seals in their wetsuits.
"Shark attacks in the Gulf are rare." Apparently except this Summer. I think that SharksHappen is creating probably the greatest database of shark attack data points so far (scientific (to the extent that reports can be), thorough, etc.). BUT, what I don't see tracked is the relationship between shark attacks and why the sharks are there; For example: Prey fish migratory patterns (yes it can be extrapolated, but not necessarily right there in the files), bait fishing with chum numbers (difficult to get, but you could look at companies doing it and begin to track where they like to go), etc. Why are the sharks there in the first place? What causes them to approach where people are? I bet chumming the waters for sight-seeing and fishing in the Gulf would be a big culprit if correlated, but I don't know...just a guess.
Yup, and he calls out the narrative that sharks don’t know what they’re doing when they attack us. Been shadow band and outright band for doing so. Yes, I spelled correctly, btw. Cause I get band, too. Lame.
@@govtom4 Actually, Hal states outright that sharks know exactly what they are doing. Great Whites will be seen 'spy hopping' to target onto prey. They'll pick an item (be it a person, seal, whatever), then go for it, ignoring everyone else around them except for the target. And, I agree; They do know what they are doing. It's not wrong, from the sharks' perspective, they are just doing what they need to do to survive. But, they definitely have a plan when they attack (this is barring any provoked attacks or accidental disruption in the sharks' environment)
Humans are over fishing with massive trawlers, so sharks have to come into shallower waters to hunt for food, and unfortunately that’s where people are swimming. And I’m sure that for a hungry shark, meat is meat and it’s not going to care what kind of meat it is.
Yes, many seacreatures die or get hurt in a storm, so it means for predators, that they will have easy prey and the sharks are tense! And... where can you find the most injured or dead animals? At the shores!!!!
My BFF who’s 4’9 saved her lab puppy who was jumping mullets in the waves from a shark attack in Galveston. They made the headlines !!! Bull sharks can swim as far as to Chicago up the Mississippi River, & also live in a fresh water inland lake in Nicaragua!
It could be worse. Sharks could actually love the taste of us. Seems like they bite and back off for the most part. And if people die from a shark attack it's because they've hit a major artery. Fun fact: Maui officials rarely if ever release information about shark attacks or shark fatalities that happen off the shore of their Island because they're afraid it will affect tourism.
Vladimir Popov would disagree with your first point. I agree with your fun fact. Most beach tourist destinations hide shark attacks, I think there’s a huge cover up going on with the Cameron Robbins incident.
@@peanutboxes4076I believe it. It's laughable how often the so called "experts" determine attacks to be cases of "mistaken identity". Sharks have been around hundreds of millions of years. Their senses are fine tuned. And why is it they're the only species so commonly making "mistakes"? Nobody says it's a mistake when a lion tiger bear crocodile etc.. attacks, only sharks. Right! They skew the facts, and grossly under-report attacks.
@@frogsReverything and then they beat it to death, I was horrified by that. We need to ban those huge fishing trawlers, it’s decimating the oceans and the sharks are starving. They have no choice but to hunt and eat whatever they can, including people.
I was free diving off the beach on East coast of FL June 7th. I have had a fear of sharks since an encounter with curious lemon shark last summer. But a rare event happened to my son and I in the keys last week a 6 foot nurse shark approached us head on from 20 foot and came right up to us. Then once aprox. a foot below us started spinning playfully and swam back down. I wasn’t spooked bc I see nurse sharks all the time and they are not aggressive. It was an amazing experience but definitely made me think what was up with the shark as they usually just swim below you and mind their business. People say never go in the ocean and blah blah. I feel these attacks happen bc these are swimmers and if you have a mask and can make eye contact with the sharks you can prevent this but my knowledge on shark behavior wasn’t known until I started free diving. I feel swimmers are just sitting bait for sharks. I love the ocean and wont let these incidents scare me out as I could pass away in a car accident or lightning strike. You can’t stop living bc of this only learn. I have a sharktivity app is really good can track them. But even though that same day I was free diving on opposite coast amazing to think three people were being attacked. Hope they all make good recovery.
I think they’ve finally just had enough Of our shite basically and rebelling 👀 in all seriousness tho the amount of attacks that have been happening these past two years it is crazy!
@@yomama9067 Could be all of the toxic pollution in the oceans not only killing natural food source for sharks but possibly, the poisons are affecting their brains and making them more aggressive.
@@yomama9067 I was on the beach 4 miles away in Florida when the "back to back" as they called it shark bites occurred june 7th I believe. I had just read an article about orca sightings near Destin so at first I was thinking maybe something to do with that (no I am not a marine biologist lol) but sharks keep biting and biting so you are probably closer to what's going on than my theory
Even for a Bull Shark and its fabled testosterone levels, it is unprecedented to see the same shark attack three people in rapid succession in knee-deep water so close to the beach. One wonders whether that shark might have encountered floating bales of smugglers' jettisoned cocaine, and bitten into a couple of them before going on the rampage in a most unnatural manner.
There are a lot of Bull Sharks in the Gulf of Mexico. I used to do diving and making underwater videos. I have seen a few real big sharks and they are not to be underestimated, they are predictors. I have had a shark attack me from behind and the good thing was that it got it's jaws stuck on my BC and really tore up my wetsuit. The whole attack lasted a few seconds but it gave me such a shaking that my body hurt for 2 days. Nowadays I don't go diving anymore and even though I love the sea I stay out of the water. I have seen alligators on the beach and in the sea. It really freaked me out when I came across an alligator on the beach and in the water.... Alligators are really dangerous and I think they are more dangerous than sharks. They have a large mouth with big teeth and then they have long nailed claws {feet} that can rip your flesh apart and don't forget about their might tail which they can whip around and knock you down with. After many adventures and a few injuries I like to be in the sand and swim in the pool. Let me give you all a tip: Go swimming with a K-Bar knife. One of my dive buddies was a UDT {old frog} and he went in the water armed. RIP FROG.

Hopefully you warned people to get out of the water. Be a shame if someone got bitten and you didn’t say anything.
Great White sharks are quite docile but Bull sharks are menaces.
Yes, you can see a shadowy figure or two towards the end of the video.
@hearmenow909 Pit Bulls of the ocean 😅
After the first shark attack why were people still in the water I mean how stupid is that
Back in the 90s I was bit while surfing figure 8 Island North carolina.
There's nothing better than the Outer Banks waves right before a hurricane. I'm glad you survived to tell the tale!
Did it break the bone?
🙏
How many people, counted as victims of drowning, out for the early morning or twilight swim, are actually taken by sharks?
Probably most, if not all of them, if they never find an intact body.
I believe more than the scientific community wants to admit. I follow shark happens and some of these 12 to 20 ft monsters can grab you quick and leave
"Psycho Killer" bass line is a nice touch! 😂
IKR
Half a million people in the water is definitely testing the odds
God bless you Lulu. I will keep you in my prayers.
It’s possible it’s the same bull shark from last month in FL with a similar pattern, since it was never caught. 3 attacks on the same day. Similar in size based on the videos. Sharks are territorial and not spoken about enough
It could have easily made the trip to TX. Unlikely, but still plausible
South Padre Island,…..not San Padre Island
I thought I heard wrong lol
The last shark chasing that duck, 😮, there was another shark lurking in the surf.
Thank God for brave men who will risk their safety to help others.
Hmm sharks don’t attack people unless mistaken identity…. Yeah right lol 😂
Birdy made a Hail Mary escape! I really didnt think it was gonna win the race. Rather, finish the race!
02:06, I hope everyone is okay. Look at all that blood in the water and that shark looked big!
Sharks aren't stupid. They know the difference between a human and a duck or fish. Occasionally, a mix-up. These were intentional attacks.
Well, I wouldn’t peg them as smart ether. However given that they are apex predators, I imagine they can tell a difference between their typical prey and other things in their environment.
They also know to follow boats that are cleaning fish and throwing chum in the water
Doesn’t matter .. you’re in their world.
Prehistoric killers from the depths to the edge of the shore line... they'll beach themselves...

I hate when they say shark attacks are rare, because they are becoming pretty common these days.
I think I’ll stay out of the water this year, Texas coast.

Thank you for your commentary, it helps out when you know what's happening.
Thanks for the accuracy. I've been searching everywhere for info, and the media reports were garbage. The attacks are at my local beach. I surf there, and theres LOTS of on shore fishing.
Shore fishing shouldn’t be allowed anywhere NEAR a swimming beach
Maybe swimming shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a shore fishing beach. People can use public beaches as they please- as long as it is legal.
It was 4 shark attacks...Rare attacks 😂 Not 3....
So are we going to call multiple attacks “medium rare” now or even 4 attacks “well done” attacks?
Because I feel the description of rare is not quite appropriate for this circumstance 😂
“These images may be distressing”
**grainy ass UFO video from 250 yards away**
A bull shark rammed me in the Gulf knocking me up in the air and I came down on my head. It cut my leg to the bone below my knee on the front and left a painful knot on the bone of my right knee. You will never see me in the ocean again.
rare? Do you know what's Rare? getting hit by a truck while swimming.
Its rare until you are called a victim of a rare attack 😂
It’s wrong the way shark attacks keep getting described as rare, it gives people a false sense of security.
@@The_Variant Everyone's gotta eat
@@The_VariantExactly, and one thing not said is that these attacks often occur because women are menstruating. It’s that blood that sharks “smell/taste” from miles away, even one drop. Hence, the attacks are primarily on females to their stomachs and lower extremities. I'm unsure why experts don't take this opportunity to educate and inform people. I guess it’s a weird topic, and people would instead chalk it up as “random” and “rare” seemingly mindless attacks, which is not necessarily valid.

It's not a swimming pool. You are part of the food chain if you put yourself out there.
This gives me horrible anxiety! The water looks so inviting and the waves such fun. However, I have not been in the sea for 65 years and only swim in pools.
My family had a beach condo and from the upper floor, when the water was clear, you could see them. We all only swam in the pool.
As a coastal living family, we have a pool. The beach is nice but the ocean can be brutal.

The man punching that shark is a real OG.
👍👍👍
@@chrismc3744 Exactly. Well said.
Humans are over fishing with massive trawlers, so sharks have to come into shallower waters to hunt for food, and unfortunately that’s where people are swimming. And I’m sure that for a hungry shark, meat is meat and it’s not going to care what kind of meat it is.
OMG This just crazy! I did not realize how close to sure the bull sharks would come.
It's not the shark's fault. The best way to avoid getting attacked is to stay out of someone's elses house.
im suprised it doesnt happen more often
It is.
Is it possible that the current storm making its way to the gulf of Texas, hurricane Beryl, is having an effect on the sharks behavior?
Yes, and not only sharks, crocs, and dolphins and jellyfish and other animals too
Yes, many seacreatures die or get hurt in a storm, so it means for predators, that they will have easy prey and the sharks are tense! And... where can you find the most injured or dead animals? At the shores!!!!
Why is the guy laughing in the last part?? What was so funny?
The Sharks are in there home , swim at you're own risk .

Hi, just a quick correction. It’s “South Padre Island” :)

This was quite informative. Thanks for the video!
What on earth is going on with all of these shark attacks lately?
I think they’ve finally just had enough
Of our shite basically and rebelling 👀 in all seriousness tho the amount of attacks that have been happening these past two years it is crazy!
They are rebelling like the orcas.
They live in the ocean , sick of our shit
And this is why I don't go to the beach.
That sounds like a good premise for a movie, cocain shark!!
It's been happening a lot more often over the last few years.
Interesting theory. Or maybe the mercury levels in the ocean are causing brain damage?
Heat=infestation. The closures of the directed long line fisheries have resulted in an èxploded population.
more people more attacks simple math
People DO NOT SWIM to the SANDBAR, you are asking for it. I've flown over the beach and you would not believe how many sharks are in the water.
I never go in the ocean anymore 😢
RIP FROG.
Native Texan here! I go and fish down in Corpus and Port Aransas every year, for the last couple years every trip weve been out on the boat has limited out on sharks alone... The gulf is FULL of sharks I have a hardtime swimming in the gulf now.
Sharks out here be starvin! 😂 Honestly though, its summer. Typical of bulls to be breeding, and young ones willing to take whatever is easy. Go in the ocean, you're in thier territory. Whether its for food or territory, you're in THIER home. Always be wary of your surroundings.
🦈I wonder how many people wind up reported as missing and drowned, when they were actually shark victims?
That is one lucky duck!
Our family was in south Padre a few days before the attacks occurred. The storm was already beginning with persistent winds and it felt eerie. I suspect that my suspicions of the storms making the ocean less safe were correct.
