Omg thank you for this video! I’ve been looking for a comprehensive video like this. I moved into a new house and have been grossed out/worried about deep cleaning these really old cabinets.

This video was a real helpful reminder. In general everything is organized and only what I need is stored in there. I regularly clean under the sink and utensil draws but I forget about doing the other cupboards and shelves. Thanks for the reminder. I will start cleaning them regularly, though they don't get very dirty. Recently I found your clean behind the fridge video which was something I never thought about. After watching the video I cleaned that area and boy did it need it. Now from this day forward I will remember to periodically clean behind the fridge so it won't get too gross again.

My own little hack. I have wooden shelves and cabinet bottoms. I line the under sink cabinet with peel and stick floor tile. Males clean up easy and if you have a leak the wood won't warp or mildew.

***** yes! Please do a cleaning the stove video. Clean the burners, clean under the burners clean the drawer under the stove. I know the oven has a self cleaning function but it takes forever and I feel that the amount of energy needed for self cleaning is overkill. Thanks

      *****
I used to clean rental apartments near a college and was required to pull the fridge out and clean the condenser coils on the back of the refrigerator. The stuff looks like fur and affects how the cooler unit works. Places like Sears also sell casters to roll your appliance for cleaning.
The bottom drawer on most stoves will pull out and its easy to clean under the oven, but every appliance is different. Hope this helps a little :)

when I moved out of my parents' house at 18, my mom gave me a can of pickled pig feet. Bless my poor husband's heart. I moved into a bachelor's house and you wouldn't believe the things I've found in this house! Especially, condiments! I think there was something from 2010! And this happened in 2013. Pickles, chips, cereals....he could've fed three people for a week three years ago. Now I manage the kitchen with no complaint from the hubster. Lol Not to mention the random machete in the Linen cabinet.

I don't have much success keeping our kitchen clean / organized, but I found that putting a wee wee pad under the kitchen sink keeps the base board clean of any spills that might occur from the chemicals I keep there. I also learned that an over the door shoe rack is great for placing spray bottles and other small bottled chemicals out from under the sink and easily available. We hang it over our laundry door that is in our kitchen. :-) hope this helps.

I was recently looking for spices at my mother in law's house. I found a spice (I think it was thyme) from 1967. She claimed spices didn't go bad, but I was like "umm I'll just toss this for you".

      @divyabhatt5207 8 лет назад +6

No I'm Indian, and I assure u, after some years the spices DO go bad. And 1967! Gosh! Thumb rule- Don't keep ANY food item for longer than a year. ur MIL sounds innocent though :)

I need a hand held vacuum so badly.
My pots and pans cabinet is an absolute disaster too. There just doesn't seem to be a way to store such awkward items neatly!!!
The oldest thing in my pantry is probably a box of cereal from like 2 years ago. I hate stale cereal, but my husband says he'll eat it and won't let me get rid of it. :P The most embarrassing thing in my pantry is a bag of old potatoes with some pretty big eyes on them. -_- I should really take care of that.
    Great video!

I love that we're not the only couple that keeps weird things as a joke/reminder!
As for the oldest food item I've found, I once found a four pack of chocolate bars that was so old that the company had changed the packaging design years previously. Clearly, they were well hidden (somehow having fallen into a part of the fridge no one knew about), or they would have disappeared long ago!

If you install a steel basket in the middle of your pots, pans, and lids cabinet, you'll have double space, and you can organize a little but more. We use a bigger cabinet for that, and made the baskets slide out so we love it!

    • @cleanmyspace
      @cleanmyspace  10 лет назад

My concern is how to access it and install it since the door is tiny and the cupboard veers deep off to the right. I don't know if we could swing it. I am going to look into ideas for this cupboard since a lot of people are talking about it. I genuinely wish I had a bigger cupboard to store my stuff in. Our kitchen is so small.

They sat on a shelf in my bedroom for a year and a half and now they sit on top of one of our cabinets in our kitchen! OMG! I would be using cupboard #10 for my cookie sheets.
The grossest thing wasn't even in a cupboard or drawer. We moved from a 2,000+ size house to an apartment. So that tells you what space was like while homeschooling too. We found buried under a bunch of CRAP on the dining room table/ junk collection pile a bag with what we think what might have been a bagel at one time. LOL!
This week we moved so now it's unpacking and still more purging as we get settled.

I don't have canned food but lots of spices in pans with the marble thingy. That circles. That looks beautiful. Great to punt rags up above. I love that. You work really fast. Haha. I don't have a handheld vacuum cleaner, but my mom gave me her Rainbow vacuum cleaner. It has a long cord and a long hose. However, I don't have a brush attachment for it (she lost the smaller attachments lol). So, what I do is, I use a small brush (a mini-broom is more like it) to lift any stubborn particles that are stuck, and then use the vacuum cleaner to suck it all up. Hope this helps anyone who doesn't have a handheld vacuum cleaner.

Question I hadn't seen asked: You cleaned the cabinets with your all purpose clear: is this safe to use on wood/MDF/whatever cabinets usually are? Yours looked more like plastic or acrylic, or at least painted. Just wondering what you'd recommend for bare wood (and MDF and liquids don't usually get along).

Thanks for the video! I'm inspired to clean my own cabinets and drawers out! I just don't subscribe to the idea of only keeping a week's worth of food in my cabinets because you never know when a disaster--man made or natural--could arise. Even just a financial emergency. To keep from accumulating expired food in our cabinets, we make sure we store the newest items behind the oldest so that it gets used first.

This is true, a lot of people have a pantry where they'll store extra items, which I would agree with. That's called the FIFO system (an accounting term) first-in-first-out :D.

I just moved into an apartment and the cabinets by the stove are just covered in grease. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. What do you recommend to cut threw the grease without hurting the wood?

I would love to see your method to get built up grease and grime off kitchen cupboards. I moved into a house that had years of grease build up on every cupboard and I have tried so many things and there's still a film left on them no matter how much elbow grease I put into it. Help!

A few years ago I was helping my Mum clean out her pantry, at the time I couldn't remember it ever being done before! Anyway, on one of the bottom shelves, right at the back, I found a tin of drinking malt (for milkshakes etc.). I checked the expiration date on the tin, as you do, and the malt had EXPIRED the year I was born. So that made it 17 YEARS out of date at the time!! I took the tin to my Mum and told her about it. She then asked me "Is it still okay?" !!! I shook the tin and it was rock solid!! We still have a good laugh about it now, but its definitely the worst I have ever seen!! :)

Too funny with the 10 year old taco kit! For my house, it's gotta be old pasta....you know us Italians, when there is a pasta sale...got to stock up....lol

LOL - it's so true! But I've always loved how Italians make their own tomato sauce and jar it for the year. I wish I had that!

My mother has something in her fridge that holds memory's too, it's not gross tho! It's a bottle of water. When my brother was in hospital dying from cancer, what he loved the most was ice cold water to sip on. So my mother would bring home his water bottle every night, refill it, keep it in the fridge and bring it back up to him the next morning! My brother passed away 9 weeks ago and my mother still has his bottle of water in the fridge. None of us can part with it! It's amazing what u hold on to and take comfort from!

peachpetal82 It's true, something with sentimental value (especially since his passing was so recent) I think is entirely acceptable since it does bring comfort to your family. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and wish your family strength during this healing time. Hugs :)

Oh here is my issue. I just bought a house the former owners were NASTY DIRTY! The shelf liners were never pulled out and cleaned under so they stuck to the wood and paint. How do you get that stuff off?! It's the left over residue of the sponge type of shelf liner.

There is a hole at the bottom of cupboard #8 where the pipe disappears and I have that hole as well, I'm worried that water or garbage anything dirty might drip into that hole and who knows what will grow out of that... I want to make sure it is clean but am too afraid to stick my hand in there to check... how do you make sure it is clean??

When my husband and I were engaged we were due to move into the house his grandparents built in 1985. When his grandparents passed on, nothing and I mean NOTHING was cleaned! (it was left just as they left it) There was a good 1/2 inch of dust throughout the house. This took me a good year to clean fully. While I was cleaning the pantry in the basement, I found food that expired in 1990! Our garbage collectors left a stern note that week stating not to let our trash cans weigh more than 50lbs each...we had 3 HUGE cans and all were packed to the brim with junk and expired food..I still do a facepalm when I remember it lol

in the small cupboard add a lazy Susan, it'll make it so the pans at the back will be easily accessible because you can spin it to the front!

    Use mineral oil
That is what is used ( generally applied by sprayers ) in food processing plants
Been done this way for many many years up to today.
Mild soap to clean surface, light application of mineral oil. Olive, vegetable food oils can get rancid if not maintained

That Old Paso Taco Kit story had me laughing! I think my OPTK are mugs I've been gifted with over the years...2 cupboards full. I keep trying to purge them and as I look at each one, I'm thinking, 'Oh this is too cute to give away, my mom gave me that one, I could use these at Christmas time, my students gave me this one and this one and this one...' You get the idea, lol.

LOL - YT4Me57 my mom taught too, and had all kinds of mugs and gifts from students. It's so sweet, but it's true, 2 cupboards full is a lot to deal with!

I went through my mothers cupboards a few years ago and found some cinnamon from a store chain that had gone out of business sometime in the 90's. Price tag was still intact and everything. She keeps it around and we laugh about it once in a while.
