If you’re vacuuming or painting popcorn ceiling, please wear closed goggles. I had eye injury from one of those popcorns falling into my eye and I needed surgery because those particles have metal in them. It fell into my eye, penetrated top layer and started rusting around my iris, blinding my eye. Surgery was painful and recovery was no fun. Be careful with popcorn ceilings 🙏🏻
Our ceilings and walls are textured, and the ceiling has bits of glass added to it. Dad would always warn me about the glass when I was playing with a balloon.
I am a painting contractor. Please do not encourage your subscribers to purchase sample paint to do the touch ups . Most woodwork is either satin or semi gloss. Sample paints are usually flat or eggshell which will insure that your touch up will stick out like a sore thumb. Also, sample paints are the lowest quality paint and not really good for long time use. They are meant to just give you an idea of what the color will look like. When cleaning painted surfaces use Simple Green or a similar product and please use a cloth similar in color to your painted surface. This way any dye that is in the fabric will not go onto the surface you’re trying to clean. If you are touching up any surface with a sheen always use the tool that you applied it with. Brushing any sheen will make it shinier and rolling will give it less sheen. On walls just use a little roller and it will help the touch up to blend in.
"This is the way" - a mandalorian Seriously though, thanks for the info! Ive been wondering what cleaner to add to my recent arsenal for painted walls. Im interested in learning how to clean jobsites back up into houses again! I moved into a place a little early that is just built, im taking over the cleaning of the unit. I almost always go for softened colors on the walls. It really sets that atmospheric background. I like doing an outdoorsy, kinda vintage yet clean/simple modern look. Picking a piece of art or landscape and using a paint color that makes the room feel like you're there. Like the winter night domey sky, that after the rain feeling, a misty mountain sunrise, a field of flowers etc. Kinda like that foggy forest accent wall. Whatever is inspiring.

I use the blue sweeper brush from the dollar tree on my popcorn ceiling. Around the ceiling vents we get discoloration from dust etc so about 2 times a year I sweep it and then lightly mist with a vinegar solution and sweep it again. Just be gentle.
If only this was released yesterday lol. Cleaned walls with a magic eraser and now there are marks everywhere that won't come off 🤦🤦 Guess I'll be getting some sample paint!
That sucks so bad! Magic eraser is great for some things, but I learned the hard way to test in an inconspicuous place. I think Melissa just said we need to wipe it off after using. I didn't know that either.
We have white walls and I use the magic earner everywhere. Gets all the scuffs off and it leaves no marks on the walls. This may be because they are white though.
Unfortunately if you have a matte finish on your walls, wiping away any scuff marks leaves “wipe” marks as it almost wipes away the finish. I was told when our house was being painted that the matte is ultra durable but sadly that’s not the case!
Matte shows less imperfections, but it usually isn't wipeable like a higher sheen would be. I often suggest an eggshell sheen to my customers if someone wants to see less imperfections but still would like an easier cleaning surface. However, some mattes (or flats) are very washable and scrubbable depending on the hardness of the resin used to manufacture them. These can be scrubbed enough to remove any dirt, will stay clean, and won't burnish (shine) from the scrubbing.
@@kevinbirge442 Our painters used Benjamin Moore Regal. When they asked what finish I wanted, I stated that I wanted what they would typically use, and something that would be durable and easy to clean. They told me everyone is moving to this flat matte instead of eggshell and if you need to touch up you won’t have to paint a whole wall, just the area needing touch up. Fast forward to after painting and I find a mark on the wall that I gently scrubbed with a damp cloth. Now all you can see is wipe marks months later! I am so disappointed. I am so confused why they told me it was easy to clean!
I always clean from the bottom to the top. This may help if your paint is easily streaked from the cleaner chemical reaction. If you have the cleaner drip down the wall it may leave permanent streaks. Just a thought. When going from the bottom to the top the previous moisture will usually help to fade any streaks
Related to the touch-up paint comment....places like Lowe's may only have the small sample size in a satin finish. Depending on where you are touching up and the finish of the existing paint, you may have to get a quart!
I HATE to cook, but my orange, persimmon, and teal kitchen walls entice me a little. Happy colors! The teal is in chalkboard paint, which everyone has fun with. I have a giant basket of chalk for budding artists.
Very timely motivation. I have Persian cats and their hair and cat litter, plus old windows, generates a lot of dust. Plus, Persian cats' eyes, and many other brachycephalic breeds, tend to weep a dark color and they, for whatever reason, seem to wipe them on the walls and doors. So, it's not just dogs that can lead to more frequent cleaning, lol. 😀
Enjoy and use tips from your videos. Hairspray on the bathroom walls - any solutions as to how to get that stuff off? It's nasty and somehow doesn't seem to show up on the walls until weeks later when you see these tiny extra shiny dry dots glistening all over the walls Thanks so much!
I have high ceilings what I do is I use a duster the swiffer one that extends super long and I just then I have a swiffer wet and I add some diluted bleach to the pads and I use that on the ceilings and baseboards works great for me. Keeps it nice and white
I used to paint every room a different color. In my new house all the walls are the same color, all the carpet is the same color, all the hardwood floors are finished in the same color. I’m luvin’ every second of it. It is nice how cohesive everything is. I’ve lived here 5 years so definitely time to clean the walls. Unfortunately the builders used flat paint so it is not the easiest to clean.
Hi! Thank you for your video. Y’all are awesome!!! I’ve had success cleaning oils and major fingerprints from flat painted walls (or any type of wall paint) with a white wash cloth and colgate regular paste toothpaste. It is a miracle cleaner and has the gritty texture similar to baking soda that helps wipe build up of this nature plus splattered bug juices. I just put a little toothpaste on a dampened white washcloth and wipe then rinse the washcloth and wipe back over the spot. Paint has never come off nor become discolored. I would test spot before doing this but I’ve had great success and it’s minty fresh.
First, about the paint sample idea. Unfortunately most paint samples come in satin finish so unless that’s your finish keeping a sample for touch ups is best in the actual paint finish you used. Last spring during lockdown I repainted almost all of our interior walls. I was so sick of the warm yellowish color and I wanted to go completely neutral. I got a recommendation from Ah, his name is escaping me, he has the painting channel on RUclips and he is like the Paint Whisperer. Best decision ever, he helped me pick the best neutral for our house and I love it. I was done with letting our walls have so much say, I wanted them to be quiet. 🤫😜
I work at Lowe's and many people tell me, usually in a disappointed or unapproving tone, that Home Depot does have different sheens in their samples. However, all paints are different and one paintline's satin may not match another line's satin, even within the same company.
I love your mop! Idk why anybody else hadn’t thought of that design before. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a winner! The design makes perfect sense. It makes mopping sooo much better and easier! Thank you! 🙏🏼
My favourite colour is green so, I always have to have at least one green room in my house, which right now is my office/craft room. In general, I like pastel colours - my bedroom is currently painted in a pale peach. A second bedroom is a pale blue. The remainder of the house is painted in neutral colours.
I have a different shade of grey in each room with one metallic accent wall also in a different shade. Grey has always been my favorite color and I finally got to this palette and I love it.
I have 3 kids with busy hands and needed this video. Unfortunately, even the magic eraser leaves spots. We just bought our home 3 years ago and I'm not sure what type of paint they used. I really don't have time to re-paint the house. I'm so overwhelmed by this. My baseboards look great because they are easy to clean and the paint stays on. I'm stressed to say the least over my walls
Thanks for the corn starch tip...makes sense, don't know why I didn't think of that. -- My living room walls are red :) and so is the attached bedroom. More like an accent space?
Hi Melissa, under my kitchen cabinets has residue of oil marks I’ve tried to wipe off but is very hard. Is there any tips I can try to remove the hard cooking stains?
Well it’s simple!! Clean your floors, dust, clean the windows, etc... don’t forget to open the windows for fresh air 😉. Not quite sure why we need anybody to tell us how to spring clean.

Also, we have popcorn ceilings and gas heat. That makes for dusty brown rings around the heat return on the ceiling. I get up there and brush and vacuum but it still stains .
I’m here for tips bc we rescue a lot of dogs and our bottom half of walls look horrible. I’m short and have disabilities. Steam mop is my favorite floor cleaner but can’t use it on the walls n baseboards though and bending over to do it is terrifying. Your microfiber cloth tip is the one I’ve been using to do the walls. It’s been working well esp when I use boiling water
Thanks for uploading this video! I’ve got wallpaper in half of my home. I decided to replace the wallpaper, but stores no longer stock wallpapers. It’s all special order which makes it difficult if you can’t actually see it before buying. You also have to buy more than you actually need in case you make a mistake. If you don’t, you have to go through the special order process and hope it matches.
I love your videos, thank you! Do you have any tips for dust control? I live in the desert and no matter what I do it is very hard to keep the house dust free. Thank you for all your smart tips to keep a clean house.
Been with your vids since day one, I've learned so much ! Thank you ! I prefer bold colors on my bedroom I got a lavender blue , cause I find it more calm , my moms bedroom is lilac ,and her office is peach , we still haven't deceided on our living room , but there we're leaning more on something more neutral like taupe , and maybe a tad darker on the wall above the fireplace , or even a nice brick like pattern with paints.

Read this. Now am not going to buy the magic eraser. Thanks 👍
@@meowk5812 yeah I think it's great for white walls. Mine are gray and matte so I think it was just a terrible combo for it. Oh well, lesson learned!
I think it depends on the sheen of the paint as well. Good idea to test first!
Thank you for this!! I just searched how to clean walls and your video came up.
We have flat white walls and I only use the magic earner. It never leaves any marks.
I always clean from the bottom to the top. This may help if your paint is easily streaked from the cleaner chemical reaction. If you have the cleaner drip down the wall it may leave permanent streaks. Just a thought. When going from the bottom to the top the previous moisture will usually help to fade any streaks
Didn't see the cleaning mixture below but I think I got it. Love your show.
Thanks for some very handy hints. I like colour. So I have painted the walls with the colour I really enjoy looking at.
I did this last week. So SATISFYING. Thank you!!
Related to the touch-up paint comment....places like Lowe's may only have the small sample size in a satin finish. Depending on where you are touching up and the finish of the existing paint, you may have to get a quart!
I am team color in regards to paint. As in, I want the inside of my home to look like the interior of a Mexican restaurant. 🎨
That's a great idea!
I HATE to cook, but my orange, persimmon, and teal kitchen walls entice me a little. Happy colors! The teal is in chalkboard paint, which everyone has fun with. I have a giant basket of chalk for budding artists.
I don’t know why but I find your videos very relaxing. I hate cleaning though 🤭😁
I feel the pain.
Very useful!
Thank you!
I like to go for neutral colors as we will have lot of decor choices and feel it makes space more light and bright 😊
I grew up watching my mom cleaning the walls at least once a year. She used Spic & Span!
So did my mom! :-)
Hey hey friend. I’m watching while editing. Great video to watch now that I’m spring cleaning! 💖💖
I’ve watched many videos and the wall cleaning and spot removal was great 👍
6:52 Mixture for walls: Gallon of water, tablespoon of dish soap, 1 cup of vinegar
I love the feet in the background, to the left in the other room , lol , it's perfect movement and everything!
I definitely need these I have realized all this grease. And gunk . I also live in an apt that is older with no regular matinence. Love your videos
Great info! And a great personality too! You sound very genuine and cool(:
Neutrals for sure. Thanks for sharing this!
Nothing better than a beautiful woman teaching how to clean. Gold!
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate your support!
Thank you so much...I of course did the baseboards with wet first!!! Yuck what a mess! Now I know! Great ideas you have!
Jacob Owens Designs, that’s who I was trying to think of. He’s amazing.
I work at Lowe's and many people tell me, usually in a disappointed or unapproving tone, that Home Depot does have different sheens in their samples. However, all paints are different and one paintline's satin may not match another line's satin, even within the same company.
@@allsquaredup9717 checked it out. The two I watched were fantastic tips! That guy is some high energy too!
I love your mop! Idk why anybody else hadn’t thought of that design before. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a winner! The design makes perfect sense. It makes mopping sooo much better and easier! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Definitely neutrals are my choice!!
My favourite colour is green so, I always have to have at least one green room in my house, which right now is my office/craft room. In general, I like pastel colours - my bedroom is currently painted in a pale peach. A second bedroom is a pale blue. The remainder of the house is painted in neutral colours.
Thank you Melissa, this was very helpful (as always)!
I have a different shade of grey in each room with one metallic accent wall also in a different shade. Grey has always been my favorite color and I finally got to this palette and I love it.
Same! That’s awesome
I like lighter colors to paint with because it let's in more light and it makes the room look bigger.
Tell whoever is sitting on the couch shaking their feet that they need to get up and help clean!
Hahaha saw it too
Calm neutrals. Thanks for sharing
Need this -very valuable info! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I needed this!
I am definitely a color gal, I paint paintings so I love color anywhere. Don't give me dull white walls!
Lots of great tips here!!! Thanks for posting, just what I was looking for😻
Thank you so much for the cleaning tips.👍👏👏🙏
My pleasure 😊
Thanks for the corn starch tip...makes sense, don't know why I didn't think of that. -- My living room walls are red :) and so is the attached bedroom. More like an accent space?
Hi Melissa, under my kitchen cabinets has residue of oil marks I’ve tried to wipe off but is very hard. Is there any tips I can try to remove the hard cooking stains?
I just encountered this today.. please help
Great tips ! Thank you ! Please tell me the different colors on your walls please.
Thanks for the diy all purpose cleaner
Spring is here
Make a video on Spring. Cleaning step by step
Well it’s simple!! Clean your floors, dust, clean the windows, etc... don’t forget to open the windows for fresh air 😉. Not quite sure why we need anybody to tell us how to spring clean.
@@joannaluca8495 FYI everyone is not as smart as you and many lazy and ignorant. RUclips is Worldwide and various kinds of audiences. Hence making a Step by step cleaning may help the community.
Thanks for the response
Have a good Weekend
I appreciate the usefull tips you ve given abt cleaning...thank you
LOL - love the dancing feet in the background while you are hard at work!! Love your videos!!
Captions in arabic, hindi and urdu are a must. Please add subtitles.
Your enzyme cleaner link goes to a product called Heal Earth, which is a Castile Soap: no reference to enzymes...Plus it was in Spanish....Great show, you are very natural.🌸
You are such a great resource 😊
Thank you! 😊
Yes...but WHY do you answer comments like this one (a compliment) but NOT the ones with specific questions!??????
I do not have a question...but I noticed this.
I have problems with my cats leaving marks in all the windows!! And their fur everywhere!! 😂 how can i get rid of the pet hair? Especially in towels! They are fur magnets! I have 7 🐈 💕
I love neutrals! 😊
Happy Friday Melissa!! Great video , keep up your adventure to help people ! Dave in Ohio
Love your channel! Wish you would teach me how to clean my car next!!
