This is almost exactly how we clean walls in the hospital. Of course we use different chemicals and we don’t wipe vertically, but starting at the top of the wall using horizontal strokes.
Thanks for the advice!! Horizontal strokes are better as the dirtier areas of the wall are usually the mid to lower sections, so if you wipe horizontally instead of vertically, you don’t contaminate the areas you just cleaned or disinfected. Thank you for that bit of wisdom! So helpful! I will be wiping my walls horizontally section by section instead of vertically!
A 'wall mop kit' is so helpful and not very expensive. I've spent time cleaning walls / ceilings to brighten the house for spring. It it makes a big difference. Great video
The end is very validating as someone who sells paint! Everyone wants to put flat and matte in their bathrooms of all places and you'd be surprised how hard it is to convince people it's super impractical in general 😂
The apartment I am currently living in has them and it’s a nightmare. I found dusting and steam cleaning doesn’t completely clean them, especially close to radiators and the only way is to repaint. 😢
A high quality Matte paint is actually fantastic and does have the ability to be cleaned to a degree. It's easy to paint over damage and spots after renters and such without any excessively shiny spots. However, should never use it in a kitchen or bathroom, that's just crazy. I mean... at minimum eggshell to repel grease and moisture and even then.

This was validating. I have flat paint all over my home (from the renovators) and knew it was pointless. I'll have to repaint the whole house with semi gloss.
The renovators failed to do a good job then. Any decent minded construction crew will take care to have proper dust control methods in place, in a finished home with occupants.
@@AltruisticWarrior I was a 1st time home buyer and had no clue that house flippers are trifling. They painted the whole house flat even bathrooms which I've already repainted.
Builders often use a lesser grade of paint with the expectation that the purchaser will paint using their preferred colours. There are different grades of paint available. Some offering exceptional performance and quality finishes that are scrubible in all finishes
Save time: Have multiple flat mop heads in clean water, enough water to dampen them, and drop the dirty ones in a separate bucket to be cleaned at the end of the project or day. I'm going to stick up for Flat Paint...since it's getting hate in the comments. Lol. I love mine. Paint is always improving, and mine holds up fine so far for 9 years. (No kids) Benjamin Moore. I painted my bathroom eggshell though, and am considering repainting with flat when the time comes. Hate me if you want to, I'm pushing boundaries. Lol.
Thank you for mentioning the paint type. I've cleaned my walls twice (different houses) and both times made everything look worse! I keep hearing people say, "you need to be washing your walls," but I'm honestly scared to. Now I know. Glossy or semi gloss only. Thank you!
I just discovered your channel. Wall washing used to be a routine part of homemaking when I was a girl more than 60 years ago. These days I just settle for wall dusting because I hate to see cobwebs. Interesting note: when it was common to have wet plaster walls instead of drywall it was common to have cove ceilings, rounded corners at the ceiling. My aunt told me that cove ceilings cut down on corner cobwebs.
Thank you so much for this very practical way to clean walls. It will make cleaning our walls a not so daunting task. When I was growing up, our Mom had us cleaning the walls each time it was necessary with a tub of water, soap and big sponges and "elbow grease"! 😉
The zep wall cleaner has been awesome on my flat painted walls to spot clean. Only way to tackle gardening handprints all over the walls next to doors. Every door. All over the house. How??? 😂😂😂
That's good to know. I'm currently cleaning out my mom's house after her death. Alllll of the walls have flat paint. And the long wall in the living room has all kinds of poster tack that she used to keep framed photos in place. It's dried out and is really stuck. Aw. And here I was thinking maybe the Zep product could possibly remove the stain caused by new, although washed first, bed sheets then I remembered the paint on the wall is flat. I’m in a rental so I have no idea what paint brand and colour was used.
When I clicked on your link I’m not sure which mop u use, showed me a lot of options… I think u said clean then with a clean pad go over wall again with just clean water?? Really great videos u have tx
Tried this, its OK depending on the surface youre cleaning.. Cannot get much pressure if walls are really dirty... I have moved about a lot and NOT always into pristine new builds.
I have a matte-textured wall in my bathroom, and toward the baseboard, there are many watermarks (from water splashing when we dry our hands with the towels on the rack above it). The watermarks combine with dust that sticks to them, creating brown stripes at the bottom of the wall. I've tried rubbing them off with just water and a rag before, but that ended up scuffing the wall due to excessive rubbing. Would Zep foaming wall cleaner work in my case, or is there a better way to handle this scenario? 🙏
Do you have any suggestions for cleaning emulsion paint. We don’t have a banister rail on the stairs and we get grease marks in spots as folk use their hands against the wall as they go up and down. Many thanks.
I think I would use a diffuser and send tea tree essential oil into the environment to disinfect, or put tea tree drops on a swiffer and go over the walls. Also helps to just air out the space. Many essential oils have anti-microbial properties. Lavender might also work... lemon and eucalyptus.
Ok, question time: would it be ok to use the Zep spray on a dark painted, semi-gloss wall? I have charcoal walls that have picked up light-colored fingerprints over the years, mostly from makeup foundation and hand lotion. Thanks!
