The most impressive part was how the torpedo ignored the submarine decoy. It remains to be seen how effective SLWT will be, but Swedish technology is excellent.

@@Steel0079 No doubt, you're right. I think Swedish electronics are very good. Erieye/ Global Eye and Gripen E are much sought after. The SLWT might turn out to be a very good torpedo.
@@saleemkirmani5583 It is the same tech as in RBS 17 mk4 Gugnir in reverse. Missile if you try to jam it missile locks on the jammer, here if you try to decoy it ignores it and stays on target. Saab has a lot of great stuff going on and has vast EW tech resources/knowledge from Gripen E, Global Eye and Meteor, A26, Escalibur, Strix, Nlaw, and so on.

Not only will it destroy the enemy vessel, but the Saab torpedo will take minimum damage in doing so. It's quite simply the safest torpedi made.
Making an ad interesting/trustworthy is a challenging and complicated process. But this ad from Saab was over my expectations, it made me feel both professional and trustworthy. Thoug its acutual performance may not be supreme irl, it's ad certainly did (not that i would/can buy one)
You can't buy these? I stocked up on 6-packs at Costco before the Corona crazies started, you need to just order in bulk it gets around the pesky foreign-weapon-sales-to-civilians-red-tape.

214 takes heavyweight torpedoes, 21 inch diameter, about 20 + foot long, weighing a couple of tons. This is a lightweight torpedo, about 13 inches diameter, a lot shorter and lighter and much shorter range. Heavyweights carried by subs and Russian ships. Lightweight by aircraft, helicopters and Western ships.

This would be a very good solution for the Ukranian Navy currently. They are being shut with cruise missiles from submarines in the Black Sea. There are "only" seven submarines in Sebastopol, so it'll take around 14 to address these.

It's just animation of multiple friendlies attacking a a lonely sub. IRL things don't go like that. And also these things definitely will underperform and will be more expensive than Ukraine can afford.

That system was test (most recent in the US Navy) but not enough efficient and too costly.
In submarine the space is limited so navies prefer invest in better decoy
The antisubmarine force is almost always bigger and more equipped than a single sub can ever dream to be. You kill one torpedo, they will launch 2 more.
Your best bet is to stay undetected or to escape. Your defense is decoys and stealth

Only effective way to communicate quickly under water. We use the electromagnetic spectrum to communicate in the atmosphere, you cannot do this under water!

I dont think such a small torpedo would have the range to perform an area search, however battery technology has advanced quickly so I might be wrong, also what is the top speed of the torpedo?
Probably 50 knots in top speed and 30-40 knots in search mode?

Why would an independence class llitoral DESTROYER, a vessel with a displacement of over 3000 tonnes need a "lightweight" torpedo system?? Surely the target market for this torpedo would be better aimed at light patrol craft or helicopter operations.

Torpedo or high speed underwater reconnaissance drone with oversized selfdestruct device.
One can only imagine Ukraine getting ahold of these and mounting them on drone ships for decoy / delivery purposes. If there was ever a time to put these bad boys to use and destroy the Black Sea fleet , should be now. One can only imagine. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Everything always looks good on paper. Reality is always different.
Sweden has extensive practice however courtesy Soviet snooping. This weapon is literally designed to completely screw them over with prior experiences in mind - keenly note the planned 2nd torpedo dropped for escape denial purposes. They're not gonna get away the next time which serves as an excellent deterrent for the future, see: U-2 Cuba+Sverdlosk.
