    There are a lot of misunderstandings about the F126.
    Although this ship is for anti-submarine warfare,
    it has no sonar in the bow and no torpedo.
    In terms of modularity, it means
    that it is a carrier platform for planning and controlling operations. As well as the bundling of information.
    In summary,
    the F126 system is only complete with UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), UUV (Unmanned Underwater Vehicle), USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle) and helicopters.

    • @gamm8939
      @gamm8939 9 месяцев назад +5

      In summary, the F126 is a completely nonsensible ship that cant match the capabilities of frigates while having the displacement and pricetag of a destroyer.

    • @jenskirstein7079
      @jenskirstein7079 8 месяцев назад +3

      @@gamm8939 As far as I know, F-126 will be equipped with a bow-sonar, but the type is not yet determined. As for the torpedoes, yes, that is a drawback. Apparently, most the responsible people think that if you are in 324mm torpedo range, you already have a problem, because the sub outranges you. Main ASW will be the helicopters and, once available, RUM-139. The biggest complaint so far, as I get it, is not the lack of any ASW capabilities, but the paltry 16 MK-41 cells. Given the current situation in the Red Sea, there might be a slight redesign of the vessel to accomodate twice as much and/or add a modular containerized solution featuring IRIS-T, but only time will tell. There is enough room, space and weight reserve, unlike the ill-designed F-125s.

      I can imagine your pain now, when it has been leaked that the cabinet will go with the French Naval Group+Royal IHC, instead of SAAB+Damen. It is not all doom-and-gloom for the Dutch naval industry. Damen will already be heavily involved in the building of four new ASW frigates, four new LCF frigates and six amphibous transport ships (multi-role support ships). Damen's loss of the contract will be Royal IHC's gain. The Netherlands will gain in IHC a new company with expertise in making submarine modules and components.

      This is mainly to defend against sub launched anti-ship missiles and torpedos. A modern sub will easily sneak into that outer line of defense.

    F126, beautiful design but that is pure destroyer, no matter that Germans call it frigate (well they simply call all of their big ships frigates), this is a destroyer and quite potent one. I guess with tonnage of around 10,000 tons you could easly fit 90 or so VLS cells, plus all other weapons. If you want to turn it into "real" destroyer.

    • @admiralmallard7500
      @admiralmallard7500 11 месяцев назад +2

      Its a big ship but its not "potent" at all. It has 8 Anti Ship Missiles like Ships 30 years ago already did and 16 VLS. How can u call that "potent". xD F 124 Class frigates will still have more firepower than these clown ships and they have been designed in the 90s. I hope that our Dutch partners take care about the F126, not becoming a `teethless tiger`, as some experts in Germany are already worried about.
    The modules are fine of course. But we can`t switch over to `anti-submarine`-modus or other mission-priorities, when in the heat of a conflict there is no time to change those modules. All frigates of such a hughe size always should permanently be capable also of detecting Submarines... as well as more anti-weapons must be installed, to defeat Drones and Swarms ! We can`t behave like bureaucrats here, who go home each Friday at high noon for relaxing. And all systems should be installed in double number... sometimes things can get broken - so there must be backups of those systems !
    To be clear: We have a good opinion about our soldiers - but far less about our burocracy and timeless `war-avoiding` politicians, who still live in the flower-power era, dreaming about negotiations with Putin & Co. '
    I hope that Damen takes care of `us` in this case. The ship looks great and seems to be big enough. Thank you for this portrait, good luck and success to the partnership of Saab and Damen.

    Larger fleets need to move away from multi role and modularity and focus on first principles of a warfare role. Over and over modularity design flaws cause huge costs and in some cases entire classes are being decommissioned. If they were so modular, you would be able to resolve issues designed around weapons systems and warfare modules. Warfare specific vessels for AAW and USW with SUW capabilities and Strike capacity centered your CV or ESG.
