  • Naval Group is attending WDS 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The French shipbuilder is showcasing its leading technologies designed to meet the operational needs of navies, including the FDI frigate and drone mothership.
    =====================
    Naval Group has been established in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for almost 40 years, with the objective to develop a sustainable and long-term partnership. After the design and manufacture of 7 frigates and 2 oil replenishers, Naval Group is focusing on improving the Saudi fleet’s availability, through its subsidiary Naval Group Arabia based in Riyadh.
    Fitting/Tailoring its offer to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 policy, the Group has been committed to developing further cooperation with local partners, to procure assistance as well as transfer of technologies and know-how through its subsidiary. Throughout these years, Naval Group has also engaged cooperation with universities in order to collaborate on innovative research fields to support the local naval industry.
    FDI (Belharra®) is the new combat ship for naval supremacy and crisis management designed for navies looking for a compact frigate able to perform the largest range of missions stand-alone or within a task force either for high sea long-lasting missions as for shallow water operation, in congested and contested operational environment. As the first digital frigate, Belharra® features high level capabilities in anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine and asymmetric warfare domains, taking into account French Navy operational legacy acquired in wartime situation. Belharra® offers a modular design and can be adapted to meet specific needs of the navies. The French Navy and the Hellenic Navy have both selected these frigates.

    Belh@rra is probably the best mid-sized warship available in the market! I won’t be surprised if the Hellenic Navy will take a fourth option for a total of 4! As for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces I could see between 3-4 be acquired along with 4 HDF-3800SA and Multi-Mission Combat Ships derived from the Freedom-class LCS

      Belharra is a detterent warship. Would love to see it in Pakistan Navy but France wouldn't sell it to us because of Indian Market.

    Norway wants to buy 5 new frigates, first to be delivered in 2029. FDI is one candidate. Does FDI have enough building capacity to deliver?

      They don't btw. There's only 1 shipyard constructing more than 8 orders. My guess? Probably delayed until the 2030s

    If your putting sensors in the bow, just as well have a ram bow, as it suits technology.

    Possibly the Hellenic Navy will never get these fabulous, FDI Frigates because a Greco Turkish war is only a few months away, I don't understand why the French nation is following Britain into WW3?

    I like o think they had a design meeting at Naval group that stressed these ships needed to be sexier so they went back and came up with this design, cause it looks amazing.

      La France possède les meilleures frégates avec l'Italie, elles sont déjà utilisées ! Ceux-ci n'ont même pas encore été construits, le premier navire en 2026, puis les tests, le premier déploiement en 2028/9. Pourquoi les USA ont-ils acheté la FREMM ? parce qu'ils sont déjà prêts.La France possède les meilleures frégates

      L'anglais est la langue globale et donc la plus utile pour le marketing destiné à l'export. Ça fait des décennies que c'est le cas. Je comprends pas ce complexe français puisque c'est un fait. C'est pas en bombant son torse de franchouillard que ça changera. Votre requête est tout simplement absurde puisque Naval News, même si fondé par un Français, est un site anglophone porté sur la défense en général. Vous devriez plutôt lui demander des sous-titres français pour les Francophones qui ont du mal avec l'anglais.

      There’s a very limited amount you can do to really limit the signature of a surface warship. If you want a stealth warship get a submarine. Or at least a submersible.

      sorry to dissappoint, but i love the clean lines. IMO FDI is the best looking frigate. The only negative i can think of, is that sailors dont have walkways/deck area to get some fresh air while off duty, because most of the time they are not in combat, thankfully ☺
