    Does anyone know if the FDI uses a CIWS (close-in weapons system) for a defensive weapon against incoming missiles (or drones?). The Greeks ordered their 4 FDI frigates with the RIM-116 RAM system which takes 21 of the latest RAM Block II missiles, plus the 20mm cannons that come standard. What does the French FDI use? Is it just the 20mm cannons for CIWS?
    BTW, all the Arleigh Burke destroyers are switching from the Phalanx CIWS to the RIM-116 RAM system, or adding it. Cannons are good, but they have a short range of around 1.5 miles, whereas the RAM missile has 5x the range.

    Ships from France are always sleek, and modern, and well looked, just the building speed is not that well, or can say too slow.

  • @jaydefuca4153
    @jaydefuca4153 День назад

    The ship's steel quality is very low.
    Rust appears too soon, which means very poor paints too.
    How will they deliver it? Simply by paint above the rust (no scrubing, no a/f paint...).
    In 3 years from now we would be able to see the frames (some of them are already visible and the ship hasn't even started its trials...).
    Ship's behavior with FINE sea (scale of 3) is not the best as it pitches and rolls more than it should while in calm sea.
    Ship's bow definitely adds to that; not the best design (as they naval yard claims).
    Too high as a ship (just like most French ships are) and too much of cotton trails and no matter how... stealthy it is, those affect a lot.
    Definitely not the seaworthy ship as those we are used to.

    Sea trials in calm sea at 5-6 bf ship is became submarine!! Very bad design of the inverted bow from the naval group.

      I am sure the water drains quickly, but you can definitely see the water easily flowing over the bow and blowing right into the cannon with almost calm waters. Looks like that cannon is going to corrode quickly and be replaced often with so much salt water hitting it and going into the bore. They could have at least raised it to point upwards, but for some reason they didn't.

      The inverted bow is not a new invention, it is a actually a very old design. Inverted bows were popular on battleships and large cruisers and were widely used upto the 1920's. They fell out of favour, as they were very wet at high speeds and in heavy sea. As you can see in the video there is a lot of water coming over the bow. It looks cool but there was a very good reason not to continu with this type of bow.
      Inverted bows maximize the length of waterline and hence the hull speed, and often have better hydrodynamic drag than ordinary bows. On the other hand, they have very little reserve buoyancy and tend to dive under waves instead of piercing or going over them. Which results in a lot of water over the bow, even at a very low sea state. This can also be very dangerous for the crew when for example the ship travels at high speeds and at a high sea state in combination with a lot of sea ice. The ship will then tend to dive under the ice, thereby severly comprimising the safety of the ship.
      This not the way forward. Besides the FDI is way to small for a large modern navy. It is very small (only 4400 GRT) in comparison with all the new frigates (> 6000 GRT) entering service with the navies from the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, US, Japan, Korea, Canada, China, Australia, The Netherlands and Belgium. The French navy should have re-used the hull from the FREMM line of frigates just like the ruclips.net/video/jiqSR4dx4EE/видео.html Italians are planning to do. This frigate has no room to evolve. There is no room left for extra weaponsystems, generators or anything else. This is a mistake and it is a big one!
