  • Traction Engine, Steam Engine, Miniatures, , 6 Inch Engine, model, coal, steam, Burrell, Foster, Garrett all that kind of thing.
A day over at the Statfold Barn Railway for their Miniatures in Steam Rally. I'm really impressed with their steam locomotives, and they'll feature in future videos but for now here's some film of the day at the rally.
Please let me know in the comments what else you'd like to see.

Loved miniature steam since was able to help mums uncle with his 4” Fowler. Out of my price range but I’d love even just a 2” engine. Again younger generations priced out of the market like classic bikes. Who will carry this stuff on if they can’t get involved. Loved the vids mate.

Thanks👍 Really glad you like the videos. Price is a huge issue, and it's taken me many years to be in a position to be able to buy. I'm going to meet one of the young people taking up the baton, so will see what he thinks. That'll be in a video soon.

This looks like it is a good couples or family hobby. While one may have the overwhelming interest the others can find something they can enjoy about it.

Another great and well put together video, very informative and well structured. There is a half size Garrett tractor advertised on Facebook which may be of interest. Good luck with your search and engine purchase!

I've had a discussion with the current owner about that very engine. Very interesting!

What if you could get one of these miniature traction engines into your living room instead of a multifuel stove and link the pto flywheel to an electric generator to power your house electrics? Could be the most efficient way to use coal? Too bad that coal is so expensive = so might not be economically competitive to grid electricity. Also noise could be an issue. If making one from new at least you could save costs by not making wheels etc

I love the idea and if you can talk my wife in to it I'm game 👍

Just getting into this. Looking at a 2" or 3". How easy are they to push into the trailer and out again? Are they easy to push when not in steam?

I'd say a 2/3" are easily manageable. People pick up a 2" and pop it in the boot of a hatchback. Very easy sizes, even without the need for a trailer.

If you got money and you can find one get a 6 inch mclaren they are the best kind of engines to look at and function
