- A LARGE MODEL SHOWMAN'S ENGINE - PART #1. This series shows details about a 4 1/2 inch scale "Plastow Burrell" Traction Engine which was built as a Showman's Engine. It ticks all the boxes for my requirements, as it is a simple engine (not a compound), It has a Copper Boiler with a current new boiler certificate and it is licensed for road use. The engine also has a large trailer for passengers and an extra water supply................................................... / keithappleton

Wow Keith you are a lucky boy........very nice
Definitley since I divorced my Second Wife }:-)))
@@keithappleton Eric Idle was once asked what his favorite sexual position was. Unhesitatingly,he replied,"the male marital position. The man flat on his back with his wallet open". Whoo wee. I sure cracked up on that one!
Videos like yours remind me how lucky I am to have grown up and still live close to one of the largest agriculture museums in Canada with lots of full size working steam tractors.
Where? I love museums and steam.
Ever since I saw a small replica steam tractor running around at a steam convention I've loved them. They are just as complicated and beautiful as the full size tractors. My dad and I would take our hit-and-miss engine to the convention to show off, it was my great-grand-fathers and it was used to power a blower in his workshop (he was a black smith) plus a washing machine. My mom remembered helping to load it and then standing back away from the belt when it got going. People used to get a big kick out it, it looked so silly compared to a modern washing machine. Following my dads' death we donated it to the Steam Society and they maintain it in running order. Seeing this model brings back fond memories! The convention has been cancelled this year, much to everyones' disappointment, but will be back next year.
Fantastic! Congratulations Keith she's a beauty.
Excellent buy Keith! Wish you all the best!
That is a real beauty there!
Wow Keith.... Have fun!
Very Nice!
Thanks for sharing! I agree the 4 chime whistle will be alot better,
Lovely. Would like to see this in real life. You've bought a gem!
Absolutely love this! I've never seen a plastow agricultural be turned into a showmans engine before. I hope to see you out and about at steam rallies when lockdown ends.
Very nice! Looking forward to seeing more on this. 👍
More to come - I am just making episode #40. www.patreon.com/keithappleton
I figured you either had a new lathe or a traction engine coming with that space haha! Hmm maybe both ;-).
Should be a great deal of fun! You could power lights on the passenger wagon...Christmas Caroling would be an awful big hit :-)
Ey that's champion, Keith. Engine looks grand. Look foreward to the video series on this one. Cheers.
I am making episode #40 today........ www.patreon.com/keithappleton
Enjoy your new engine Keith.👍
I will try my very best }:-)))
It needs a showman’s organ and a living wagon to go with it!
Congratulations! That's a very fine looking engine, indeed.
Thank You }:-)))
This is Great News! A real big boys toy.
Congrats on the new engine
Thank you!
wow very nice u lucky man....
Well, just to mirror the comment of others here, what a beautiful engine, you are a fortunate man to be able to own such a thing! I am quite jealous. Maybe someday...
It has taken me 68 years to get one . . . . . }:-)))
Hope you enjoy this machine! It's beautiful!
That's lovely Keith. I notice the seating position...and wonder if a section of the roof will be made removable so it'll be comfortable to drive?
I have a plan . . . . all will be revealed - without taking chunks out of the roof . . . }:-)))
@@keithappleton Hinged: Down for show, up for run. Right?
I do hope you’re going to put it on a trailer and bring it to the Great Dorset Steam Fair someday, when that can be reinstated. Might get to meet you then. 😃
new toy.
nice.
When you were making space in your workshop for something, that was not what I imagined. I automatically thought of a lathe but it wouldn't be logical to block the doors so gave up trying to work out what you were getting.
That's a very large model indeed, I should think you'll need to rearrange your workshop quite a bit to be able to work on it.
Looks like a lot of fun though !
I did have to create a lot of space for it in the Workshop. The episode you are watching is only the first one - I am currently working on Episode #40......... www.patreon.com/keithappleton
As always it's awesome and thank you for sharing. What is The approximate value of something wonderful like that?
Reassuringly Expensive . . . . . . .
Great looking engine . Where can engines like these be bought.

Bonjour Keith,
I fully agree with you, this Showman's engine is absolutely beautiful, and even if it is not comfortable, I would be happy to drive it :+)
Besides this, would mounting the chimney improve the draft?
Amicalement, Raphaël
The long chimney extension is for stationary running only and it improves the draught slightly.
@@keithappleton I was wondering it the chimney extension was used for running as it is very long. thanks for clarifying.
I was thinking a new lathe. This looks more fun ;)
So was I but alas I saw this . . . . . . }:-)))
You could power a new lathe with this engine and have it all!
The Iron Maiden engine used in the film is part of the Scarborough Fair Collection & Vintage Transport Museum near Filey (should you want to see it)
Thank You for that, I may have a ride over when things return to normal }:-)))
Iron Maiden - saw the engine in Denmark about ten years ago.
it's similar but not quite the same . . . .
🔧😊👍
Did the castle sell?
No Idea, it wasn't mine. I did my part which was to rebuild the bottom end, fit the brakes then paint the wheels & rolling chassis, after which I returned it to the Steam Workshop.
Keith Appleton was just curious went to have a nose couldn’t even find it in the archive and ad alway a fab video
Have you bought it or are you just renovating it?
I bought it :-)
@@keithappleton Lucky Man. A new way of getting to Blackgates?
Very Slowly.
extremely slowly - and it really would be fun on the M62 Motorway }:-)))
When I have sorted the steam test out you must come over the Pennines and have a play with my full size Ruston.
What is the pipe on the roof... sorry love watching your channel but i am not knowledgeable on steam engines
That is the Chimney extension for when the engine is stationary and generating electricity - it carries the smoke over people heads - that's the general idea anyway }:-)))
@@keithappleton Thank you
Retirement is treating you well.
so far so good . . . . I am busier now than before I "retired" }:-)))
No footrest? Just holding your feet off the ground? Great ab work out.
