One thing I've always loved about the Trek community is the respect given for all involved in the franchise. Great to see everyone remembered that we lost this year.
Fair warning, you will not get through this video without crying. But @SeanFerrick , you did such a great job and presented this in such a lovely and respectful way.
Through conventions over the years I have had the unbelievable honor to meet so many Trek actors that I can say with no doubt they are such wonderful souls and their loss hit s so hard.
To quote another of my top 3 fave Sci-fi shows aof all time:

I appreciate that, too. My siblings were mostly grown up when my mother remarried, but at 15 I suddenly had 4 more sisters, two more brothers, uncles, aunts and uncountable cousins who for the most part welcomed me into their family. Most of my siblings don't even count the steps as siblings, but I always have.
Behind the scenes or on the screen, they are all immortalised by their contributions.
this hit harder than usual. I lost my Dad in October. One of the last conversations we had before his heart attack was about seeing the Enterprise D in Picard. We were both nerding out so hard. I'm so happy he got to see that before his sudden death.

I can thank my dad for introducing me to "TOS "(after he introduced to "MFU"). He too had a heart attack in '84. My mother had a stroke in '99 and died shortly before her 80th birthday. De Forest Kelly died just a month after she did and they (and my dad) were born in Ga.
Beautifully and respectfully done, Sean. My first exposure to Annie Wersching was for her role as Renee Walker in '24.' She was in almost all of S7 and part of S8 of that show, becoming a new love interest for the Jack Bauer character. . I'm going to rewatch some of those episodes. She also had a nice 13-episode arc in the show 'Timeless.' I love how you worked in her Irish dancing experience.
I did not know about Manny Coto's passing until this video. Among all the other quite devastating reports, this one really got me. A name I'll sorely miss. Such a huge bummer.
I also wasn't aware that Margolis played two of my most beloved characters ever! What a loss indeed. He was incredible, and I hope he lived a full and wonderful life.
I think Manny had an episode idea for a 5th series for "Enterprise" in which Cdr. T'Pol finds her long-lost Romulan father and finds many secrets her mother didn't tell her. I wonder if he let anyone see his script before he died. I hated the way the programme was cut and that Trip was presumably killed, but if any Trekkie reads, he's still alive in the novel series.
People can hate on the first two seasons of Picard all they want, but Annie Wersching played the Borg Queen beautifully in season 2. Rest in peace to her and all those that brought their amazing talents to Star Trek and have passed on.
I was gonna say . . . I didn't think I'd heard of Alice Krige or Susanna Thompson dying . . .
Guess I need to get caught up on Picard.

I love the fact that you provide a small bio for each. So many of these retrospectives just give a list of names, maybe going into detail for the more "important" folks. So glad that you guys recognize that everyone involved is important. 💜

I worked in advertising for 20+ years and I hired Earl Boen for many, many radio commercials over the years. He was always a pleasure to work with. He was great at comedy and I could always count on him to come up with plenty of very funny ad libs.
I am pleased to see that TrekCulture is giving each of these people a few words of history and context as opposed to other "in memoriam" segments elsewhere that just display names over stills. Well done.
Star Trek was a significant component of my life. I enjoyed it when it first aired and each one of the franchises. Thank you for recognizing these contributions.

It’s a welcome change to review a bunch of actors who for the most part, lived long and successful lives.
“And was also cast in the pilot episode of Galactica discovers Earth, although that series wouldn’t be picked up”. Galactica 1980 wants to have a few words, while it wasn’t great, it did have the best Starbucks episode. The show lasted one season and the opening 3 episodes were called Galactica Discovers Earth.
I was about to say that OG Battlestar Galactica reaching Earth in 1980 was an actual season because I saw the first episode and the Starbuck flashback one, along with bits of other episodes when OG BSG and Galactica 1980 reruns aired on Space here in Canada.

And in most cases production crew work more hours than actors. I did theatre production so I know all about the long hours.

Although it's always bittersweet to lose anyone I smile a bit when I hear "Seventy-eight" or "Eighty" plus because it means, as much as these folks are missed, they got to live to an age where death begins to feel like less of a tragedy and more like the natural consequence of living a long fulfilling life.
The ones where people die young, to cancer or whatnot, those... Those are deeply tragic. Realizing, as a fan, that they could've had years more to offer in their field is sad enough. The ones that die young leave me thinking of those people who loved them that will long for more for the decades ahead of their own lives.
It breaks my heart. :(
Hearing about Aron Eisenberg gave me existential terror for quite a while. Not just because he was just 50 at the time, but because it happened so quickly. I read something about him having a stomach ache in the morning, and by evening he was gone to kidney failure. It's scary how randomly abrupt it can be.
Live Long and Prosper to the ones who have left us.
Peace and Long Life to the ones still here.
Star Trek is a beacon in this universe, and everyone who is or was involved is part of something that has given so many so much joy. Personal opinions aside, one would be hard-pressed to deny that aspect alone.

My family and I had to deal with death the last year and it was horrible. Yet when I look at this, it tells me that generations are involved in our beloved Trek universe.
I'm glad to be part of this and I wish their families all the best.

One of my favorite things to watch at the end of the year. These remind me of all the wonderful folks in the community and all the folks that played even a role in a wonderful franchise that has span generations!
I remember Barbara Bosson from The Last Starfighter. That is my primary memory of her career. I remember the rest because I watched Hill Street Blues with my parents as a kid. But The Last Starfighter is one of my favorite movies of all time.
For those in the comments who haven't seen it...I can't recommend it enough. Just...look past the special effects.

And considering that TLS was made in the mid-'80s and is widely regarded as the first CGI movie, it's still pretty good. I'm just wondering if the promised sequel will ever be released.
@@mikeguilmette776 I don't want the original remade...but I WOULD like it remastered. Redo the CGI, maybe scrape together a few of the deleted scenes that perhaps shouldn't have been removed, and clean it all up.
The only reason the CG looks the way it does is because they had planned to run it on a Cray for quite a long time...but the studio kept bumping the release closer and they wound up having less than a quarter of the time needed to render it all correctly.
Had they gotten what they needed, that movie could've rivaled Star Wars. It had a better story, dialogue, and acting, after all.
But I too would like to see a sequel, even now.

Some threat from beyond the galaxy even worse than the Kodan.
Alex has been doing his best to reorganize and strengthen the Legion, and Louis has joined him by now, becoming one of the best Navigators in the Legion. He can make a Gunstar do things in flight no one thought possible.
To that end, shortly after the ending of the first movie, one of the first things Alex does is institute a program to develop a "Heavy Gunstar" to improve its armor and weapons, and incorporate a more limited, but more useful, version of Death Blossom.
When Louis joins up, it eventually inspires Alex to also initiate development of a "Light Gunstar" that carries ONLY a navigator. Built primarily for speed, maneuverability, and reconnaissance...and not really meant for outright battle aside from harassment and hit-and-run strikes.
Alex and Maggie have a daughter, who grows up exclusively on Rylos, and is just like her uncle Louis. A hot-dog Navigator and a bit of a slut. Alex and Maggie vehemently oppose her joining the Legion, but Louis goes behind their backs and gets her in.
Louis is a major man-whore. Will literally sleep with anything that has a usable vagina and is reasonably humanoid. But he's fiercely loyal to Alex and the Legion, and is absolutely dependable on a mission. Too much of a braggart for his own good, but can usually back it up.
The Legion isn't ready for this new threat. They need more manpower, and to increase military production, fast.
Alex proposes letting Earth join the Star League early. There's debate and heated argument, but he eventually gets his way. He goes back to Earth for the first time since Louis joined up. His mother has passed by then, but they stayed in contact, and she knew both her sons were heroes protecting Earth.
Alex arrives in a very public and official capacity to introduce Earth to the Star League, and offer membership.
And after that is where the sequel would begin.

Condolences to all the many people who passed for their contributions and to those who will miss them. Gerald Fried made a huge contribution to the original series with some of iconic music, including "Vena's Dance" as well as for "Amok Time" (where Spock has to return to Vulcan to mate or die) from the fanfare and the fight scenes. Gerald Fried and Sol Kaplan, who passed in 1990, really helped make Star Trek memorable with their catchy music, and because Roddenberry was always trying to save money because the original series was hugely expensive for the time, the music was recycled in later episodes, thereby becoming easily recognizable and strongly associated in our memories with the series.

I didn't realise Judy Levitt was Walter Koenig's wife since 1965 to her death. It's very sad for Walter too, heart breaking.
Nicky Coster was also US Military and served as a Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was a great friend to many and an all around wonderful guy.
I'm glad Nicholas helped those with disabilities as well. Mark Goddard-from "Lost in Space"-also taught in the area of special education.
Thank you for your list. FYI, Peter White (#6) was on All My Children for several decades playing Lincoln Tyler, son of Dr Charles and Phoebe Tyler. Lincoln’s romance with Kitty Cole had lots of turns which finally resulted in their marriage.

I never feel sad for people dying, because its just part of life, everyone dies at some point, and for these people, their memory are in Star Trek movies and series.
🖖💗Thank you for this... I see so many actors I remember from the series and I'm thankful to them for playing such a large role in my life. I've been an avid Trekkie all my life and was my first TV love. I was only 2 when it premiered loved it even as a small child. I think the Spock character was my first tween crush. It has shaped much of my life in that it helped to developed my love of science and I would eventually become a biologist and a biology instructor at the high school and college levels. I initially became interested in xenobiology long before it was a respected field due to the episode The Immunity Syndrome which featured the giant space amoeba. My plan after college was to work at NASA... but my senior year the Challenger disaster happened and NASA practically went dormant. I worked in labs for awhile before turning to education and teaching high school biological sciences for 8 years... eventually becoming the science coach for teachers in the very building where Dr. Ronald E. McNair had been a high school student in a small South Carolina town. It had been converted into a middle school and no longer even had a usable science lab. One of my projects was to create one which I did. I was then transferred to the other local middle school to repeat this. I'm now back to teaching high school and dual-credit science college courses. I'm now considering retiring and trying something new. Perhaps in a future life I will finally get to travel to the stars and look for life beyond Earth.
You've had an amazing life all because of Star Trek. Thank you for sharing your story. So cool. My best to you and your family. Cheers!
I believe the late Challenger astronaut Ronald McNair also has a school in Atlanta, Ga. named for him.
@@virginiaconnor8350 Yes. There are several. There's one in Texas as well since that is where he lived while training. However... only our school was the one where he attended high school. Actually that school is celebrating Dr. Ronald E. McNair Day.... TODAY!

I've never been into the Akira class, but knowing the in-universe lore and purpose of the class, I still think it's pretty good that they gave her such a canonically bad-ass ship.
There need to be some tales of why that ship is so memorable that it got put in the fleet museum.

Manny Coto was one of the best
I remember Manny Coto from Odyssey 5. I wish it got more than 1 season.
I always felt like Margolis should've played Dukat's father in a flashback of some sort.
His looks and mannerisms look like he'd be perfect to appear as a relation to Dukat.
Could've given the character that extra dimension of sympathy, instead of merely hearing about what happened to his father from the Obsidian Order.
Would've made his ultimate choice to be the villain that much more crushing.

Blaaaahhh... What depressing stuff! While I do not recognize the vast majority of names here I do remember a bunch of them - not necessarily from Star Trek though. Sad to hear about Manny Coto in particular, since he did such wonders with the fourth season of Enterprise. It was the best season BY FAR, and what might have been had he been given the reins from the get-go?

Annie was a terrific actress, she gave us one of the best portrayals of an alternate, or mirror timeline, her Borg Queen, unlike the Prime timeline Borg Queen, who destroyed her people for the possibility of revenge (wonderful portrayal by Alice Krige) chose a future for her people, one which leads, not to destroying the Federation, but joining it . She didn’t try to copy Krige, she made her own terrifying and touching, character.
Lot's of love to the friends and family of our Trek family who have departed us. 🖖☺️🤘🇨🇦🕊️

I admire very much the respect given for the ones that are gone. On the other side it makes me shiver when I count the years and see that I am between ST Voyager first season and my life's end... 28 years were gone in blink of an eye... 😞😞😞😞😞 and I have onky between 15 to 35 years left... I wish I was stuck in a transport...
I had the privilege to sit and speak with Walter Koenig and Judy Levitt for a couple of hours when I volunteered for the hospitality suite at one of the first Phoenix (Mesa) Comicons in 2006(?) Such warm friendly people. I was sad when she passed away. Shortly after meeting them their son committed suicide and was found in a park(?) up in Canada. He's had a lot of tragedy in his life.
I was surprised you didn't mention Annie Wersching's role on "Timeless" (2016-1018). Another sci-fi connection: Earl Boen in Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980).

May they all rest in peace. I had no idea Annie Wersching had played the Queen. I learned of her passing 8 months after the fact, and I was very sad, because I liked her a lot
Mark Margolis was also Jimmy in Edward Woodward's equaliser, a character who helped with tech and surveillance throughout the shows run and he also played a mob boss in Now and Again in the episode Pulp Turkey.
Edward Woodward was the only "Equalizer" actor I liked portraying him. I like Denzel Washington though.
I left in 2023 in August. I died and the doctors brought me back after 6 minutes. I didn't even know I died.
It's weird I've died twice in my life. When doctors did the open heart surgery they said I had an 11% chance of surviving. Ended up on life support. Doctors said they could remove everything when I awoke and I'd live about 3 days. Ended up catching covid in rehab which caused heart failure and pneumonia in both lungs. Doctors discharged me sick. I'm still alive but God only knows why. In 2018 I was in the ICU due to my muscle disease. Doctors said I had enough toxins in my body from the muscle tissue breaking down rapidly to kill five people. Doctors said they were baffled as to why my body could handle that much toxin and not suffer any damage. I can't tell you what's after this life but I can tell you there's places you don't want to go.
Every one of these people are a.tiny piece of the huge ST jigsaw! May they all forever trek through the stars

Mark Margolis had a long career as a supporting actor in film before breaking bad or star trek. I even remember him from the awful Hannibal as the ‘scent identifier’. Earl Bowen was also a character actor with lots of supporting actor credits. Great moment you highlighted from T2 was the Cigarette falling from his mouth when he saw liquid metal terminator coming thru the prison bars with his gun temporarily stuck behind bars plus original terminator telling Sarah Conner come with me if you want to live
Mark Margolis also had a regular role in the Edward Woodward crime drama "The Equalizer".
