    the case imploding as it flew out of the shuttlebay is not a plot hole.
    it makes sense that it impleded as it was exposed to violent gravitational forces.
    originally it had been stationed in the lagrange point where gravity is in equilibrium between opposing forces, cancelling one another out. a box of (duranium) tissues would be fine there.

    • @chuckintexas
      @chuckintexas Месяц назад +2

      NONE of that is _how_ gravity _WORKS_ .

    • @HermanVonPetri
      @HermanVonPetri Месяц назад +6

      @@chuckintexas Hah! I've seen this explanation repeated here in the comments, but...
      Any object in free fall experiences NO sensation of stress from gravity except for:
      (1) when it is being accelerated by physical contact with something pushing it.
      (2) when it is being stretched by strong tidal forces over a short span of space
      Option 1 is out since the canister is not in physical contact with anything pushing on it. So that wouldn't do it.
      However, 2, it _is_ in proximity to two large black holes which can create the types of tidal forces that could rip apart something in orbit. Except for three problems with that. One, seemingly paradoxically, the bigger the black hole is the gentler the forces are outside of the event horizon. Two, the further you are from the black hole, the gentler the forces are. And three, the smaller the object is the gentler the forces are because the gravity has to be significantly stronger on one end of the object than the other to rip it apart. That's more likely for a large object like Discovery or the Breen ship than a car sized canister.
      Counterpoint: The structural integrity fields of the ships could (in a sci-fi way) be enough to hold the ships together if I suppose the canister didn't have one.

  • @KyleWitten
    @KyleWitten Месяц назад +49

    The Pringles Can blowing up doesn't bother me. The episode title explains it.
    A Lagrange Point is a region of gravitational stability because competing gravitational forces cancel each other out. A real world example from today is the James Webb Space Telescope. It is located at a Lagrange Point.
    So, not only was it damaged from the collision, unless it was jettisoned back into the Lagrange Point, it would have been subjected to extreme gravitational forces for the first time ever.
    They got the science right on this one.

    No up for that short "I have an idea, it might be risky" "Just do it" interaction between Rayner and Burnham?
    It is so short, but so good, since it a) shows how far the trust between Burnham and Rayner has come.
    and B) means that mister "62 % is good, we take that risk" actually at least thinks about it by now.
    In episode 1, they would have argued about a call like that and ended up on different points. In episoe 9, Burnham trust him to make the right move blindly.

I think he's the sixth scientist who "died" (Jinaal's word), but really he mastered the Progenitor's tech. Either he's a human who is now immortal b/c of the Progenitor's tech or a Lanthanite. 2) Based on the musical cue from TMP in Epi. 9 of this season, we'll see the race of beings that created the machines that sent V'Ger home, or maybe the life-form from the end of the movie that was the amalgamation of Decker/Ilia (list them as missing), or both. 3) We'll see many of the ancient races of the galaxy there, a la the end of Babylon 5, who were testing the younger races. Perhaps we'll see Q, Iconians, the race that created the androids in the TOS episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and, perhaps, a cameo from Salome Jens reprising her role (she's 89 years old now!).

    I'm not sure how the Breen suits magically knew what was banter between the Disco crew and what they wanted to say and translate for the Breen. I guess the microphones work on plot power. My guess is the small pringle tin blew up because instead of being at the LaGrange point avoiding gravity, as it was for centuries, it's traveling closer to one of the black holes, I can't remember them explaining what a LG point is though so it could be clearer.

    First, I have a bit of a beef with giving a down to the destruction of the "Pringle Can". While in the Lagrange point between the 2 black holes, it was in equilibrium and in little danger. Once it was expelled from the ship, there was no indication that it was into the Lagrange point. Any unprotected object would be ripped apart by the forces of the black holes.
    Second, I think that Burnham will get everyone to work together, bring back Lok, get a few answers of the universe, then ultimate everyone decides that it's better if the tech is destroyed. They all end up coming back to normal space, Lok takes over as the leader of the Breen and brokers a deal with the Federation and everyone lives happily ever after.

    The part with the casing is NOT a plot hole. We have no spacial awareness in this scene. The Pringles can was in a Lagrange Point, a stable orbit point, around the 2 black holes at the start, but now it was moving away from the shuttle bay thus not in a stable orbit anymore and probably now in a decaying orbit into an object with MASSIVE gravitational forces. It is similar to submarines being just above crushing depth or the scene in Babylon 5 with the white star and the shadow vessel flying into Jupiter. If you cross a certain point, depth, or height (as in decaying orbit), it is game over.

    I agree with most of your ups and downs. As for the Finale, i'm eager to see what they come up with. The only thing I can think of is the great power may not be about creation but more about cooperation and unity. Also, one thing you could say was flying the shuttle into the unshielded exhaust port is a call back to 2 Star Trek episodes: DS9 One Little Ship where the tiny runabout entered the ship through the plasma vent, and TNG's Preemptive Strike where Ro navigates the Maquis raider through the Enterprise shields cause the impulse exhaust causes a weak point in the aft shield.
