    Hey Jeff, my kind of video!! :-) That being said, I have a few observations/constructive criticisms/alternative viewpoints:
    - I'd consider a bag kept in your car a "get home bag" instead of a BOB, mainly because, if it's in your car when you end up using it, it's probably because you're not home, you can no longer use your vehicle, and you need to walk home with that bag to get to your supplies, or maybe even your BOB to leave home with
    - in my eyes, you should NEVER go into any of your emergency kits (this get home bag included) for anything on a daily basis - this just leads to missing gear if the time comes when you truly need it. If you find yourself dipping into your emergency kit for things regularly, get more of whatever those things are and keep them in a car kit of regular use items
    - I get the impression from this video that you tend to throw random things you get from viewers, friends/family, or items for review into your bag without too much thought. I'd steer clear of this. Really think through what you'd use this bag for. Again, I'd imagine it will be for walking home from someplace else. Imagine where "someplace else" is likely to be - work, family or friends' houses, regular appointment locations, etc - and figure out the distance home from there. Think about the possible terrain and routes, and your estimated pace, add time for breaks and account for fitness, and pack the bag accordingly. You probably won't be camping, cooking, purifying much water, or staying anywhere for extended periods during this trip, so again, pack accordingly
    - redundancy is great, and even necessary - to a point. If you have a lighter, redundancy could be a thick ferro rod. I would not rely on a regular Zippo, since the fuel will inevitably evaporate. Rely on the Bics, or a Zippo with a butane torch insert, etc.
    - I would suggest a comfortable, rugged backpack, maybe a hiking pack, since you will be walking a lot with this bag. Maybe a subdued color to blend in when the time comes. Not an overly heavy tactical bag that will add needless weight, but not a super lightweight, fragile bag that won't stand up, either.
    - if you spend much time at all in a city, then add items for urban travel accordingly - otherwise, focus on the rural area you live in, and again, pack accordingly
    - never keep any alkaline batteries in any piece of equipment that will sit for a prolonged period of time - ever! The batteries WILL fail, leak, and corrode the inside of the equipment, probably ruining it. Keep batteries separate until you need them.
    - I know I already listed this, but I feel like it bears repeating... definitely refrain from going into ANY emergency kit bag for daily use items. This is important. These are emergency kits, and need to remain ready to go at all times. Definitely do make sure anything with an expiration date is kept up to date, though. A lot of the stuff in your bag would belong in a separate "car kit", which would be gear specifically for your car, to use in roadside events, or while on the road, etc. This kit should remain separate from your get home bag. Aim to separate and isolate your emergency kit as much as absolutely possible - it should be a standalone kit.
    I know this was long-winded, but I hope some of it helps, and maybe gives you some different ideas about how to look at your kit. Love the videos as always, and I look forward to the next one!

    FYI that is not how you use a pace counter. The first thing is you find out what your step pace is in meters, then every 100 meters you walk you flip up one of the beads on the long side. When you get to 1000 meters that's when you flip up the bead on the short side. . . . Without knowing your pace in meters for your step count you have no idea how far you have went. Guessing a mile then flipping up a bead will do nothing but get you really lost. Specially if you have a topography map that reads in meters.

    It’s great to go through your gear periodically, things go bad and technology changes. In my opinion?too many knives & fire starter. Flashlight have gotten better and small, put a nice 1000+ lumen that takes 123’s and USB and a small lite that attaches to your hat. Maybe throw in some food? Cliff bars or MRE’s. I enjoyed that thank you

  • @lifebythehorns
    @lifebythehorns 3 года назад +2

    It's funny how older go bags have heaps of little unnecessary things and tons of redundancy lol. Mine was the same way making it hella heavy. I found that I had 20 different ways to make fire ,at least 3 flashlights and six different knives but no room for a bottle of water 😂. Now? Well it's still heavy but the weight is water ,food and extra clothes. Still have redundancy but in a more realistic way. I realized that if I ever REALLY need my bag, I will be on the move trying to get home and not sitting in the woods practicing bushcraft for weeks.

  • @Sheridantank
    @Sheridantank 3 года назад +5

    16 Zippos (which are useless in an emergency situation), a "Not so great" ferrocerium rod, left over packs of old OTC, 34 different pens, a movie knife that will do nothing for you, a cheap Pakistani made knife that will fall apart when you need it the most, a bag full of worthless keys instead of a set of lockpicks, an old beat up knife sharpener because you definitely want useless trash during an emergency situation, 21 multitools that you can barely get out of a bag that you have to carry by hand the whole time. This is a shinning example why people need to be trained, instead of trying to think for themselves.

When you showed your caltrops i almost had the same reaction. Caltrops are cool, but i dont think those will help you in a high speed chase, maybe get some family of 4 killed. I like the idea of laying them under a window, though broken glass might be better.

      as far as the gun it was in the vehicle so element of surprise was not the concern it was there for when I was traveling and could not have a gun id have one anyway in m car, as far as caltrops go its very practical but the likelyhood of someone chasing me in a car to threaten my life is slim but if that happened I dont care about anyone else until my life is no longer threatened so thrown onto your roof they will roll back into the road behind you and work 100% once the situation is over and the police and notified they can be recovered...Its like saying I wouldnt ever shoot anyone just in m case a round hits an innocent person...sure you dont want it to but you dont want to die more, lol...just like the handcuffs probably will NEVER get used but there are many scenarios you may want them, the caltrops can also be stateg in dfront and behind a tire ina parked car to ensure when they leave thery will have a flat, it doesnt necessarily mean you have to use them at 100 mph...
