Things that go BOOM, Firearms or Fireworks need complete focus and respect at all times! Glad you are still around and able to see the world in all it's glory my friend!!
I grew up in New Jersey too and I never understood the appeal of fireworks and firecrackers. Still, where possible I would obtain them and trade them in the suburban boy black market for nudie mags, knives, throwing stars (you never know when shit might pop off), and once for beer. They were universally accepted, too.
I bought a box of 12 safety glasses to have everywhere on my work bench in my tool box, just every where to remind me to put them on. I do a lot of building stuff that requires wearing safety glasses. That's the last thing I don't want to live blind or missing a hand. Try a day without those two parts of your body.
As many have already said, glad you're okay and a good storytime. To add to the driving and drinking, someone I knew got hit by a DD at an intersection. Evreyone was ok, however, after the cops arrested the other driver, they noticed beer on his breathe. He ended busting .80 and he himself got a DUI. He was 2 blocks from his home when it happened, and he was an off duty taxi driver who had just stopped off for an after work brew.
Jeff. I have been downhill skiing since I was like 2....and our family went through plenty of aluminum poles (back in the bad old days before carbon) and we used old, destroyed, bent, too small poles for lots of things.... and one was Fireworks launcher. Cut off pole to about 2.5-3 feet... grip'er and go!!
I held the bottle up a few times with bottle rockets, but for the most part I place it on the ground first, then step away after lighting the rocket. I think they actually sell bottle rocket launchers now for a buck or two.
Thanks Ive shot them off in bottles too but the bottle can fall over then direct it anywhere lol so ive held them for the most part for years but id prefer to have a fixed tube ona platf0orm or stuck into the ground securely then drop them in like morters...regular PVC would be fine if they go off in the tube no big deal
I have had new lenses put in old frames more than half a dozen times from different places. Whomever told you it's a liability risk may be bending the truth a bit. Luxotica owns most of the glasses companies out there now and they have replaced mine a few times without anything more than "Are you planning to get frames too, or just new lenses?" They usually ask to send the frames with the order so they can make the lenses to fit, but that's about it. Side note, the fuse suggestion is great. I started buying big spools of it after I had a mortar malfunction on me about 15-20 years ago. Just really pay attention to the burn speed when you buy it. Some of them will burn far quicker than you would think possible and can still blow up before you get a chance to get a safe distance.
Hahaha, that firecracker story with your friend brings back memories of when I and my friend Cat found a bunch of F1 grenades and decided to throw one into the river to get fish. So he holds the F1 I straightened the wire of the pin and pulled it. Cat can't hold on to the safety lever we get smoke and he drops the grenade it starts rolling down the river bank thankfully 😃 then smoke and a pop I say to myself was that it while dropping to the ground - not like the movies hay and than BLAMM - shrapnel whizzing let me just say - we never went grenade fishing again 😁
when I took my OSHA 30 hour general health and safety course, my instructor told us about a guy who was working in manufacturing who injured his eye. He was doing his job and a tiny speck of dust got in his eye, and he made the mistake of rubbing his eye because it itched or irritated. Well the dust was abrasive enough that it scratched his cornea, and not only that his eye became infected and was bad enough that he lost his eye! Pretty scary, definitely makes me want to wear safety glasses or goggles when I'm working on anything. Work safe! Carry on smartly.
Jeff, I was watching this in my mom’s kitchen, she suggests a dark pair of glasses, particularly some red frames. Just some food for thought, glad you’re okay!
This is me and when I was a cook. Used a wok a lot with hot oil. I looked at them one day and the lenses are all dimpled from the hot oil splatter. Didn't even realize I was getting oil to the face everyday.
Looking great Jeff! Been following you for over 10 years man. my mom still uses the Pelican i1015 case I won from your Easter contest many years back. ❤️
Explosives in industry requires training and certifications and safety protocols. The 4th of July involves exactly none of those things with very similar explosive compounds. This is just one reason I do not like my own species.
I love any cherry bomb type, especially the ones that still go off under water. Still to this day, on occasion Ill go to the nearest reservation and buy a pack of 200. Fun is fun!. Lol
Wait... you shot off all of those bottle rockets while holding them? Do people do that? I know teenagers do that, but real people? Genuinely curious. Every one I set off is from a bottle on the ground.
I'm glad you're okay but I mean, fireworks are stupid in the first place, that's why people should not mess with them. And also what the hell are you even celebrating this country for, this country is in shambles, there's nothing to celebrate lol.
It’s ok Jeff, just sounds like had a normal childhood of an adolescent male. You’re lucky you were not born as the newer generations being propagandized to and forced to be under the agenda of the state.
I don't know why but my first thought was Jeff looks like he just came off the set of Tropical thunder.

Wow, I'm glad you're ok, I skipped seeing/letting off fire works, sick of crowds etc, yeah glasses saved you're eyes!
Why were you holding it in your hand? They are called "bottle" rockets

Glad you’re alright dude! God is good!
Soo many options like Uber and Lyft that there’s no excuse for people to dui. It’s not worth it!
Just not drinking, but texting and driving too no text is worth the risk,it can wait

The M80 visual was fricken hilarious. Glad you’re ok.

Some time's you might want to wear both safety glasses and a full face shield.

I had a Roman candle blow up in my hand 3 nights ago and it perforated my eardrum so that was fun.
It’s just not worth the risk you’re taking but I’m glad your ok
we've been lucky without incidents but we always seem to do something dumb like holding the bottle or the mortar tubes to shoot fireworks
Like the chain Jeff 👍🏼
they have clinics with couches and Doctors, for people with your condition. Next investment PPE, and no more zippos!
Saw the Instagram post I knew there was gonna be a video

Storytime is always a must watch. Had the same thing happen to me last night.
No Roman candle fights 😁😱

I used to buy fireworks from that guy as well...his name was Jason...Jason Pierre-Paul or something like that.
:) small world
i seen it on instagram, you were lucky.
You should knock on wood three times
All the best stories start with the phrase " Once we were back in the woods"
