One of the best movies I've ever seen. So inspiring and moving. The performances were simply top notch. It's a shame this didn't get the recognition it deserved!
Watching today on the 50th anniversary. Still bone chilling. I've been teaching my 13 year old daughter this story... and the movie. The happy ending never came. The grief endured long after the crash. And, in some ways, it still endures today.
Of all the scenes of any movie I've ever watched, this one never fails to punch me in the gut. The pure, eerie silence of who knows how many people just standing there, waiting.
I got accepted to Marshall and went on a tour recently and got to see where they filmed this scene and it felt very surreal and I was proud of my choice to apply there. Go Herd! 💚🖤
This movie is such an inspirational story in honor of all those who lost there lives 47 years ago tonight they're never forgotten. They're spirit lives of the current and past students as well as alumni who lost classmates back on that night I couldn't stop Crying when I watched that movie
I'm glad they did the scene where coach gave the game ball to President Dedmon after the win. Unlike the movie character, Donald Dedmon was remarkably a young man of only 39 years when this tragedy happened, close in age to Coach Lengyel. He was interim President and looking to move on to another school. While the movie focused on his dealings with the football program, Dedmon is widely credited with being a pillar of strength and guiding the school and community through this tragedy.
dedmon had nothing to do with anything in the movie he was replaced by this time. my grand father was president of marshall who rebuilt everything, and always laughed ..about the stupidity of people believing what they are spoon fed.
This is a wonderfull scene.... I can't imagine how does the university feel when they lose all the team, friends, partners and relative. But you know in the unity we can find the force.
I was there that day. Huntington is my hometown. That's a morning shot they used. I know because in the morning I was on the steps to the right of the screen (look when they first start chanting) and later in the afternoon moved to the middle, closer to the building. In theaters I saw myself on the steps. The amazing thing, the thing that blew me away, is how little support there was. Very few people came out, maybe a thousand, when it was expected about 10k would show; so few arrived, a lot of those people are CGI.
My late dad and I watched the film in theaters. He was a month shy of 27 years old at the time of the Marshall University plane crash. I was 27 around the time of the film’s theatrical run.
I was there the day it was filmed. That is a morning shot they used, even though it was supposed to be at 5pm in the evening in the film. I know this because I was on the steps leading down to the main crowd, and moved to the middle section later on in the day. I saw myself on the steps in the theater. It was truly a tremendous day to remember.
The best part of this movie is watching Nate ruffin captain of the football team bring everyone together shows how a tragedy like this brought the university together and their unwavering spirit to keep the program going and also recruiting new members of the team to carry on those who died in the plane crash. I credit Nate ruffin for this. May he and his teammates, coaches, boosters, etc live on the hearts of MARSHALL UNIVERSITY, the town of Huntington, west Virginia and the community for many years to come! 😇😇😇😇❤️❤️❤️🧁🙏🙏🙏🙏!
My college Roommate was accepted and ready to go to Marshall University, but he wanted to look to go furter North and that's where he ended up going to my College!
My hometown is Huntington. I was there the day this was filmed. This was a morning shot that they used. I know that because I was up on the steps over to the left if you were facing the building. Later in the afternoon I and some of my friends moved to the middle near the front where those wearing the Marshall jackets were and I don't see any of us where we were standing. Very few people showed up and so they had to do a lot of CGI to make it more full than it really was. They expected several thousand people and only about 200 or so showed up.
I was there in the crowd at the time this was filmed. We started filming around 7 or 8am until about 5pm. That's a morning shot they put in; I was on the stairs in the morning and moved closer to the middle by the building in the afternoon. I don't see myself in the middle, so that's how I know it's the morning shot. My parents got me for my birthday McG's (director) Kate Mara and Matthew Fox's signatures, but McConaughey was too arrogant to be bothered, while McG was friendliest and took time to chat with my parents. Really neat and unexpected to have their signatures presented to me for my birthday the following month.
If u don’t at least tear up at some part in this movie. That’s ok, but know it’s also ok to experience emotion, and if u didn’t that’s fine, however, I’m sorry whatever went on in your life to where u have to bottle those up that much
Only down side of this film is too many scenes with big emotional climaxes too early on. It leaves you emotionally spent before the real awesome climax at the end. This film was great and mcconaugheys acting was wonderful, and the story is moving, but it couldve been executed better if they paced the emotional rise steadily, rather than having alot of scenes early on that look like theyd be at the emotional climax of a film
If Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was ever in that scene. He'd probably say 'Oh no no no...This is Marshall University! You have pride! You keep that sumabitch going!' And everyone would chant, 'YOU ARE...AN A$$HOLE...YOU ARE...AN A$$HOLE...'
For everyone watching, don't believe "John Waffle WV" says, all he does is lie on the internet and attack schools left and right just to get attention. What he doesn't know is that NOT every WVU fan hates Marshall. I had a summer internship in 2006 and three WVU students were able to get along with me and promised to watch this powerful movie. The other thing that "John Waffle WV" said was that he laughing when the team died and that was uncalled for. Death is NEVER funny and has no place to ever be said. John Waffle WV, If you're reading, you've been blocked and if you said what you said in a work setting, you would be fired. So think before you type.
Still gives me chills. God bless the young thundering herd.
OMG..you got chills..like OMG
I will be truthful I cried like a little girl during this movie
We all did brother.
I cry at this clip even!
Me too
Everyone did man
EVERYBODY DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This almost made me cry the first time I watched it. It now reminds me of a classmate of mine in band, she died in November.
i always shout together with them: WE ARE MARSHALL
always beautiful to see how people can unite in destress
This is one of the most heartwarming things I've ever seen.
Remember the Titians and We Are Marshall are the two best football movies I have seen. Both brought me to tears.
Aw they're sick. Boutta watch we are Marshall
What about the blind side?
Such a powerful moment in the movie. I had many a tear running down my cheek. A room with 3 grown men, and we all had some tears. I loved this movie.

Now that's what I call, TRUE INSPIRATION!!! As terrible and sad as tragedy can be, it's also what brings us together. ✊
This is a wonderfull scene.... I can't imagine how does the university feel when they lose all the team, friends, partners and relative. But you know in the unity we can find the force.
"in the unity we can find the force".... consider that stolen my friend. Perfect.

I'm a WVU grad but the movie was great and so is Marshall except when we're playing them!

This is quite honestly one of the best and most touching movies I ever watched. My dad was in high school when this happened.

This tragedy is the reason freshman can play immediately now.
I frikkin love this movie!
The poor man who lost his wife then his only son. So heartbreaking 😫
Could you just imagine standing in that window
If this scene really happened in real life can you imagine how it was wow
It did, I’m a student at Marshall and they have pictures of it in the building where this scene was filmed.
It didn’t.
If u don’t at least tear up at some part in this movie. That’s ok, but know it’s also ok to experience emotion, and if u didn’t that’s fine, however, I’m sorry whatever went on in your life to where u have to bottle those up that much
