  • Today we change the oil in the 2011 BMW X3 35i from Shell to Amsoil. We also scope the engine and cut apart the oil filter to get a base line of what to look for. Over the next year we will do checking the engine and oil filter to see if changed oils and oil ratings change anything on the car.

I guess all I can add is I've used AMSOIL form the mid 1980's in 4 different cars and liked it. I got really high mileage out of each car with no engine related trouble and the insides of each motor were almost clean enough to eat off of them. No sludge.
I have tried Moble1 and I'll admit it was a very good oil I did find I had to add oil more often like it was being burned off faster as the engine didn't leak or burn oil. That issue I didn't like.
All I can say is I prefer AMSOIL. It's never let me down though it is costly but I want my motor to be at it's best and keeping it cleaner as well.

The choice to go to AMSOIL has only advantages. I have been using the 5w30 signature series in my 3.0 diesel and 2.0 diesel for a few months now. Less noise from the valves, smoother engine, less consumption. Slightly more expensive this oil but definitely recommended.
    Quality takes precedence.
Before that SHELL HELIX ULTRA 0w30 : also very good but still less than AMSOIL.
Greetings and thanks for the nice reviews.
PS : you can EASILY remove the spilled oil with brake cleaner, spray it on and then you will see that the oil is gone. This also prevents dust....

I was a mobile one user for a while as well, but amsoil is the best in my opinion. With all the tests people have done to compare amsoil to other oils, amsoil comes on top. My 01 pt cruiser has been on AMSOIL 0w-30 for going on 2 years and probably could use an oil change. Just in the past year alone its probably gotten 20k+ on it. Looking to change it in the next few weeks and the oil off to get checked out. When i removed the valve cover this past summer to replace the gasket, the motor was extremely clean for having 293k. Looked just as clean as that BMWs motor.

I've used Amsoil Signature series 0W-40. It was a great oil. Car ran super smooth and much quieter from the beginning to the end of the drain interval. Compared to Mobil 1 0W-40, it feels smooth when you get a fresh oil change but, to me, the Mobil 1 oil felt like it breaks down faster, and the engine loses that smoothness the more miles you rack up. It's the second best oil I've used. The very best I have used was Motul.

You have to be careful in selecting the correct European oil with the required degree of SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfate), so that it doesn’t harm your delicate emissions control systems. Amsoil sells two varieties of 100% synthetic European Motor Oils that Amsoil claims would work for your vehicle, including a 5W-40 FS (EFMQT) and a 0W-40 MS (EFOQT). I would choose the 0W-40, since it possesses a lower Pour Point at -59.8 F and a higher Flash Point at 449.6 F than the 5W-40 oils. You shouldn't have used Amsoil Signature Series for your Mercedes!

@Tenza Motorsports - Nice video. I wanted to give you a heads up about the oil you are using in your BMW in this video. With the 2014 BMM x3 with the 3.0 liter 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, (the car in this video), BMW requires a 0W-30 oil meeting the BMW LL-01FE European oil specification. This is an oil specification for the needs of a European car, which are different than for U.S. cars. Selecting a 0W-30 viscosity is only a part of the picture.
The AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 is a great oil, but it does not meet the BMW LL-01FE oil standard and is not intended to. It's not the correct oil for your BMW. Using an oil that does not meet the oil specifications stipulated by the vehicle manufacturer, (in this case BMW), can cause engine and/or emissions equipment damage and that can be expensive to repair, especially with a BMW. European motor oil standards are entirely different than U.S. motor oil standards. Per the AMSOIL Product Application Guide, the correct AMSOIL synthetic motor oil for this car is the AMSOIL SAE 0W-30 MS Synthetic European Motor Oil, product code; EOT. It meets or exceeds the BMW LL-01FE oil specification. If I may be of further assistance, just let me know. :) - 30 year Independent AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants Dealer. P.S. - According to the Mobil website, their Extended Performance motor oils are not BMW LL-01FE rated and are not available in the 0W-30 viscosity.

@seangowan7441 - Using non-AMSOIL oil filters with extended drain service AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, AMSOIL inc. recommends up to 12,000 mile or one year, (whichever comes first), oil filter change intervals. But if I may, if there was ever a warranty related issue, it opens a Pandor's box of was it the oil or the filter that failed? For complete warranty protection and a matched combination of industry leading products, I recommend using the AMSOIL Oil Filter with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils. Engines for vehicles today cost many thousands of dollars to replace and it might not make much dollars and cents to use the industry leading "The First in Synthetics" (TM), AMSOIL synthetic motor oil with some other brand of oil filter. I hope that answers your question. - 30 year Independent AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants Dealer.

@VISTORAGE - AMSOIL pioneered the synthetic oil industry for cars and trucks way back in 1972 with the world first 100% synthetic API qualified motor oil. That oil led the industry with up to a 25,000 mile or one year recommended drain interval. Years later, in 1974, Mobile came out with their version of a synthetic, (trying to copy AMSOIL's pioneering lead), and also tried to imitate AMSOIL's up to 25,000 mile/one year recommended drain interval. However, Al Amatuzio, the founder of AMSOIL Inc. said that Mobil started having problems with that drain interval and backed away from it. I notice you are using the 0W30, if you car requires OW good, but if it's 5W30, you should have use the 5W. Reason is the Noack volatility. But, Amsoil FTW. ruclips.net/video/CRzKXI1XTSI/видео.html

If he lives in a colder temperature area, he SHOULD be using a 0w30 for maximum engine protection at cold start.

5w50 is a little to thick for the b58 I would run redline 10w40 or amsoil amo 10w40 high zinc for 600+hp .

Use AMSOIL European Formula 5W-40 FS. That’s the oil that’ll make your b58 very happy as it’s not thick like 5-50 and it provides added protection from the high boost and tune.

You should test AMSOIL Signature Series against the Mobil 1 Annual performance, it's the only Mobil 1 that "Might" be able to compete! And the Mobil 1 extended performance should be compared to and "Might" be able to compete with the Amsoil XL! ha ha

I explained why I used what i did in the video. And based on my last testing the Mobil 1 I used is quite capable of keep up with Amsoil. In fact it out preformed Amsoil from the testing I’ve done so far.

AMSOIL OE outperformed Mobil 1 Long Life; AMSOIL Signature Series has 4X more wear protection than AMSOIL OE - don't believe there's any reason to test the best against Mobil 1.

Amsoil, the preferred oil by used car salesmen who believe in Ponzi schemes. It’s a high quality oil no doubt, but the distributors are the biggest used car salesmen ever!

AMSOIL is not a ponzi scheme. That's illegal. AMSOIL uses network marketing, which is endorsed by the Federal Trade Commission. Network marketing is used by many successful companies. Making false claims that damage a company is libel and that is against the law. Attorney's fee's can run into many thousands of dollars.
