    Hi Surina, glad to hear you are enjoying Australia. I'm a Brit who has been living here since 2011, I love it too! I live on the Sunshine coast, it's definitely been very rainy this year, more so than usual. Winter is just beautiful here though. Blue sky and 20-22 degrees most days! Enjoy your life in Brisbane, it's a really nice city. Yes you will miss your family and friends but it does get easier. I love my life here and that compensates for missing out on weddings, birthdays, Christmas etc. And being able to FaceTime makes life alot easier! I'm going to try and make it back to the UK once a year now to visit family, and my family also visit me over here so really it feels quite easy now.

    Love your videos seeing your perspective of Australia. As a Brisbane native, can I please point out we pronounce Queensland as Queens Land, not Queenslnd. We extend the A sound 😃. My tip to help you sound like a native.
    Also, from my experience as an expat who lived in China for nearly 8 years, you'll stop missing home after about a year. We actually had a company explain the process and timeframe to us and they were pretty spot on.

    Yeah I have a similar problem, though I'm in London, UK. I'm from NZ and most of my friends are there, and my immediate family. I do have lots of cousins in the UK, but I only know a few of them well. I've been here 7 years, but I'm looking at moving back to NZ in a year or two. I miss my old friends and family. I also miss the atmosphere of NZ, like it's wildlife, Flat White coffees, seasonal produce. I think I stayed in London too long, as I feel the pull back to NZ might not be as big had I lived somewhere else in the UK. I'm no fan of huge cities. But yeah I get where you're coming from.

    Liked this video...though I should I asked you this question earlier. can you please help understand what do you mean a Surgeon is in Australia? For e.g. in India after MBBS it's either MD or MS...
    How does it work in Australia. I have seen some universities in Australia giving a MD directly. Do they do the specialization as an integrated course?

    • @anshulaich6026
      @anshulaich6026 2 года назад +1

      The MD awarded by Australian universities is a primary medical qualification, not speciality training. It's basically equivalent to MBBS.

    • @drsurinataneja
      @drsurinataneja  2 года назад

      MD/MBBS is your medical degree. You then have to specialise and are a surgical trainee for several years. You are technically a surgeon after you have completed surgical training and are a consultant.

    Vegetables in Australia have almost tripled in price because of COVID restricting the number of foreign pickers who do most of the work on farms. Also as you noted there have been a number of adverse weather events. Australia, unlike Britain sources the vast majority of its food locally. Some is imported, weirdly from China, but most Australians prefer Australian, if they are aware of origin, for quality reasons. Chinese produce is really questionable, even the Chinese prefer Australian if they can get it, just price as usual favours China.
    I note you live in the centre of Brisbane's CBD. Inner city supermarkets tend to be pricier, so is that a factor with your observations?
    Australia is affected by a climatic cycle that spans the Pacific in 2 modes. La Niño and La Niña. When we are in La Niño, the americas get a lot of rain and we are in drought. In La Niña Australia gets floods and America is in drought. We are currently in La Niña so as you observed we have a lot of rain and floods. Those rains particularly affect vegetables, especially "peppers", we call them capsicum, which rot very easily.
    You are I think comparing ( like many travellers do) what you were paying for things before you left England to now that you are in Australia. I have not been to England for a while but from reports England is also suffering from lack of farm workers, not just due to COVID but mainly due to Brexit. I do not know how much that has affected supplies and price. So I will check on line.
    Just checked on Morrisons website, fruit and veg _generally_ seem more expensive in Britain. Carrots, lettuce and peppers are however cheaper. A seasonal thing perhaps, we are in autumn heading into winter? Something I found weird is how everything is in plastic bags of odd weights and measures, and chopped and packed ripe avocado is a thing? Must have to eat that ultra fast!

      Ummmm. who told you foreign fruit/veg pickers were restricted during Covid Australia wide?
      I have friends in quarantine at Brisbane airport, and the only exception for foreign arrivals during Covid was pickers.
      If veg prices went up mostly due to lack of foreign pickers, that is proof foreigners are not being chosen due to lack of local pickers, but because they cost farmers less to hire....which is somewhat racist and exploitative = slavery.
      I think you will find fresh produce price hikes during covid were due to lock downs and supply chain break downs (restrictions on trucking especially), panic buying, and adverse weather.

    • @toby9999
      @toby9999 2 года назад

      Climate change is global as are the effects of various policies and actions and those policies and actions and their effects will be enacted and felt across the globe over the coming decades. There is no evidence tying specific climatic events with specific policies. In a country of droughts and flooding rains, there will be floods. What China does, what France does, what the UK does etc. will all effect the Australian climate long term. Looking at a short term sample is way too narrow a focus.

    I’m an Australian studying in London, grocery stores in London are so depressing. And I find the prices are the same. In London the selections of fresh produce and also Asian foods don’t exist in major stores. Very inconvenient and produce is very sub standard. So horrified and disappointed with such backwards food stores. Packaged processed foods, candy and alcohol dominate the stores. Neighbourhoods in London rarely have European delis, butchers, Asian food stores, bakeries like Australia has.

    Why are so many doctors from the UK coming to Australia? Is it the language? My suburb has had more than its share of doctors from the UK ( most packed up and left) as they missed their friends and lifestyle in England. Thank God you are in a major city. If you are sent out to the regions you will soon discover a different life. Medicare keeps the Australian system going (this includes payments of doctors)! Not so good if you are a patient who cannot afford private health insurance. Keep your eyes open!
