Totally incorrect. There are jewelers that are now starting to set diamonds in vermeil, 10k over silver, etc. Granted they are generally SI diamonds not vvs or vs, but still a bit misleading. There are also plenty of solid gold items with moissanite and CZ

The fact that I found a ring on the dirt and has like the "10k" mark on the gold part which is shocking because I thought it's the price 🤣 but I just saw it half way thru the ground.
Like many others with a knowledge of jewelry I just came to also tell you 925 denotes Sterling silver with a purity of 92.5% and is a common metal used for rings earrings diamonds and other precious gemstones jewelry.

But here's the thing someone could buy a platinum ring but no stone in it at all. And then put a fake Stone in the middle or a man-made Stone in the middle. Which means just checking the ring itself won't tell you for a fact if you got a real diamond in it or not
What is a fake stone? All stones are their own gem. Diamonds, emeralds, topaz, ruby, moissanite, cubic zirconia, zirconia, etc. All are their own stone. It is only fake when you portray it as something it is not.
My grandmother's ring was real gold, but stones were cubic zirconia. That's just how it was.

(Getting it tested is better though depending on if you don't know about how diamonds shine and stuff and its just more reliable but if you can't get it tested its better then nothing)

The problem I've always had with the American stamping system, and indeed any country who just stamps a numeric value, is that anyone can do that on any metal and there is no legal protection with it.
The historic system of hallmarking we have in the UK tells you the fineness of the metal, where it was tested, what year it was stamped and who the maker of the piece was (or certainly, who sent it to be stamped) our Assay offices (where the metals are tested and stamped) are accountable for anything which is stamped by them. Granted, our Assay system is older than the USA itself, but no reason why a more robust system couldn't be implemented in other countries too.

Copper is a pretty common metal used by students and trainee jewellers, it has similar working properties to silver so generally you start by practicing on copper, once your boss is happy with your work, you graduate onto silver, once you've mastered silver they let you loose on gold etc so it's not unreasonable that there may be copper jewellery out there which has precious or semi-precious stones in it that was a student/apprentice piece

I'm a jeweller and a metal fabricator and I can stamp tungsten or tin with .925 or 24k- doesn't make it true and diamonds are false value. Yes, I make money from them but I've advised every client I've had that wants them to go with grown from an Israeli company we go to or to go with fake and save the money for something that actually has value and serves a purpose other than draining money

Palladium, it's a metal from the Platinum group but is not as valuable as platinum. It's been used in jewellery for probably about the last 20-25 years so it's kind of "new" in a sense even though it's been used in industry for years and years prior.

I was given what I thought was a beautiful diamond ring and it had the 24k stamp on the inside. Had a jeweler check the diamond for me while having a pair of earrings reset. The diamond was not real. Somehow I wasn’t surprised.
