Diamonds don’t maintain their value, and the entire industry is a whole scam considering de beers artificially inflates the value of the diamond. The colors letters and cuts are all mainly invisible to the naked eye. You should purchase a stone that you love and that makes you feel happy. The perceived value of it is just perceived. Whether the stone is a diamond or not is up to you :) hopefully that helps.
Geese Beemps it is best to educate oneself before buying a diamond. The colour of a stone is definitely noticeable with the naked eye; just compare a D colour to an I or J colour; you will see the difference. The best colour is no colour. No one wants an inferior diamond; they want the best quality for what they can afford.
L S It might not have been clear, but considering the scale goes from no color to Z (literally yellow,) i thought it was safe to assume my comment referenced the visible difference between two letters that are next to each other. For example: D vs E, or I vs J. Any of them compared to a single letter above or below is essentially undetectable for a naked eye. Obviously, you wouldn’t compare a D with a N or something. But again, I was referencing the fact that paying more for a letter up because it’s “less yellow” is very scammy since most people wouldn’t even know unless they were explicitly told what letter it was.
@@AnaluGPrd There's devices for that that check the refraction index of stones using light. Not exactly a household method, but any jeweler who works with diamonds will be able to test this for you.
Jonathon Calleija, moissanite has a hardness of 9.25 so please tell me what kind of sandpaper are you using to scratch it? Certainly nothing average people would have. I know about the double refractive nature of moissanite but the average person would not have access to this type of equipment.
Really interesting..As a child aged about 6 I found what I thought was a diamond ring... Dad took it too the police station and they said it was a fake... they tried to scratch glass with it. I remember the disappointment... Plus the coppers said if it were a real diamond of that size, it wouldn't be in a silver mount. True enough.
The Floating test only works with certain dense fluids and is highly dependant on which diamond imitation it is. In general all those tests only work to identify Glass, rock crystal, CZ, YAG, Fabulite and similar imitations. Moissanite can't be identified with most of the tests. Very informative nevertheless.
Good to see you back in the videos Tommy! If you guys ever want an apprentice I'm only in Kent and I have a degree in silversmithing, goldsmithing and jewellery design. I interviewed in Hatton Garden last week but they cast everything and fob it off as genuine handmade, I can't work like that because I want to learn the proper goldsmithing skills and actually hand make real top quality work
This is my first time ever hearing of you guys. The video was🔥🔥🔥 Question: if someone gives you a fake 💎 but passes it off to you as real, how do you let them know the diamond is fake?
A friend has a tiny but lively vintage diamond...it flashes beautifully if the light catches it right. One like that I'd love..It has character and is subtle.
Tfs! Truly appreciate your videos. They are very helpful. I have a question about an issue ive been having and was wondering if you had any advice? So, i recently made a diamond four prong solitaire ring and have been having trouble with the prongs catching on everything and i am afraid i will lose the stone if i wear it. So its put away for now. I made a 22k gold alloy and platinum twist makume gane type of band and a platinum four prong setting. I have cut, polished, and burnished them down as close as i can. And feel if i go any further i will end up not having enough metal to actually hold on barely over the gurtle. (Sorry if my spelling is incorrect.lol)
Mar. s what would be the way to test a lab-grown diamond? I did some research and apparently you can tell by using a light box? Not sure how accurate this is tho.
Found a random "diamond" sitting in the crawlspace of the house I just bought. Looked really similar to my mom's real diamond ring, and it passed most tests I tried, but after it failed the newspaper test I decided to take a lighter to it (dropping it in the water made the same cool sound that it does in the video). Sure enough it was completely shattered. I crushed it just for good measure.
Just finished picking through about 10 quarts of river gravels and there were loads of stones. Pink, yellow, red, green, orange, purple, white, all varrying shape and size. I know in my state we have every type of gemstone, excluding Ruby, but not every color. Would the tests work on uncut diamonds? What is a good broad spectrum gem tester?
Bobby White is a true man of taste. I have Jewelers in the diamond distinct I buy from but he is really a custom dealer. I know with great work comes great customers but I am a ordinary person with expensive taste.

An american tv show once laser printed a code on diamonds and took them to jewelers to re set the diamonds and all but one had been swapped out for another diamond
That I have to admit it is incredible way to determine between a real and a fake diamond I never knew about the glass of water test. Thank you for the informative information.
Hi, Just wanted to know how you got into jewellery making? I love design technology and product design etc l, and also love jewellery with a passion, i feel like its something i would want to pursue but dont know where to start?
Do you want to work at a jeweler's bench making things every day? Do you want work on the sales floor? Would you prefer to just design? Which ever one you prefer, there's a different set of schooling and career paths.
Bobby White: Here's a interesting theory question for you. Can body armor be made from a diamond? (Say, for entertaining the theory, you found a large, almost flat diamond that could be cut into a panel) Would it work.
Diamonds do still crack so no it wouldn't work....the point of body armor is to transfer the energy away from the impact point...thats usually why its weaved Kevlar in layers.....a diamond is so hard it will focus the impact in one spot most likely crack like a car window into a bunch of litle pieces....thats why u can smash it with a hammer
My guess is that in the newspaper test it all depends on the reflectivity of the 'diamond' and the shape of the precious stone. It will not work on a decently cut moissanite or zirconia.
I have a real diamond earrings comparison and its still confusing. I did the UV test, all the little squares making 1 large princess cut reveals a few stones having a glow sediments that holds a charge after the light is removed while other stones in the same set don't yet all are real. Best take what you to to pawn as they test, they don't need to know you don't intend to but wanted a quote for if you do : )
Tbh I find it interesting the way people dislike CZ and love diamond. CZ is far more perfect in its colourlessness, it is more weighted on the finger, it literally shines brighter or shall I say it makes rainbows and diamond barely does. Diamond often has brown or yellow tinge in the stone and is lighter and less sheer. The only real reason diamond is better is the hardness of the two stones, CZ scratches over time and shows wear and tear, diamond will not show scratches. CZ is an 8 hardness while diamond is a 10. But then CZ is so cheap you could just get another stone put in everytime scratches showed after extended use. Hahah but I guess... “diamonds are forever”. I love my heavy colourless rainbow stones ♥️
Can you please make a video about buying diamonds. Where to buy them, how much is good price, not get scammed, negotiating and etc......
Sadly I dont think they will due to privacy of sellers :(

This episode rocked!
Thanks Alec. Lovely engagement ring you made your Fiancé. Congratulations to you both.
Since diamonds are hydrophobic which means they repel water and are attracted to grease I would try some Vaseline first on a wet stone.
Who to find sure price buyer of diamond?
im here because of school
Lmao i see what you did there
These tests only work on cubic zirconia and will not work to separate moissanite from diamond.
Always best to have a professional test the stone but it can detect CZ like you said.
@@BobbyWhite Can you do that test? How to tell diamond from moissanite?
@@AnaluGPrd There's devices for that that check the refraction index of stones using light. Not exactly a household method, but any jeweler who works with diamonds will be able to test this for you.
Sandpaper will scratch moissanite easily, you can also see double refraction if you have a loupe. Synthetic diamond is very different
Jonathon Calleija, moissanite has a hardness of 9.25 so please tell me what kind of sandpaper are you using to scratch it? Certainly nothing average people would have. I know about the double refractive nature of moissanite but the average person would not have access to this type of equipment.

True I heard on some other video that they're identical and way cheaper but idk
The tests they peformed are useless with lab grown diamonds. Unfortunately.
